I'm not gonna lie to you all, I went into this expecting Arnold Schwarzenegger to be this epic action hero in a crazy sci-fi action film. So as soon as I noticed something was off about his character, it took me a minute to really believe it lol. I absolutely LOVED this movie. There was this quiet tragedy beneath all the action-packed mayhem. A deeper message about how the future bleeds into the present. A beautiful reminder that sometimes destiny finds people who never ask to be chosen. The Terminator was absolutely terrifying. But also, strangely poetic? With everything going on today with AI, I couldn't help but get chills and feel like this was a warning to us all. The Terminator is a ghost of our own making. Sent to erase the very thing that gives us meaning and hope and life. It's so much more than just a machine. It's the consequence of humanity's arrogance, walking with purpose and no mercy.I absolutely loved the synth score in this. It felt like the pulsing heartbeat of the entire story. And just like The Terminator it refused to quit 🤣 Every chase, every shadow, every flicker of red light carried a constant reminder: the future isn't written, but it's always there watching.I loved the deeper messages and love within this movie the most. Beneath the explosions, the guns, and the time paradoxes... this movie is about love and legacy. About the fragile, miraculous threads that tie humanity together when everything else falls apart. It's a story that says: we endure. Even when the world turns cold and mechanical. We keep fighting! And I loved Sarah Conner's arc for that message alone! I can't wait to check out the next one with you all! Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/fD82YC6lejsI watched this on Amazon Prime

Ooh, this is going to be exciting

kaliwali

I hope you enjoy!! I'm not surprised but I ended up really loving this one! 🔥

T2 Judgment Day is soon much better. Its one of the few times where a sequel is better than the original

TheJoeKerr

It never dawned on me that you thought you would be watching an action movie with Arnold as the hero. As much as I’m looking forward to this reaction the next movie is even better which is a rarity. If I’m not mistaken this was James Cameron’s big breakthrough movie (not his first movie tho)

pinkdino99

As a kid I delivered a free evening newspaper to my local VHS rental shop. The guy let me rent out anything (I was 12-14 yrs old at the time) as long as it was not porn. He also let me take the old posters from the shop. I had The Terminator poster on my bedroom door ! This is quintessential 80s low budget sci-fi magic. This, Aliens, Robocop and Predator are the best that there ever was. I'll join everyone else in saying that T2 is absolutely worth watching, and one of the best sequels ever made. But things go rapidly down hill from there !

James Cameron, like Isacc Asimov, was always ahead of his time when it comes to sci-fi. Calling the evil AI "Skynet" is just all levels of crazy foresight - the Cloud and Internet were not real concepts in 1984. Because of that, I figured this film would dive into your fears that you've mentioned before, the fear of sentient machines and AI taking over and trying to wipe out humans. Although that concept was not unknown at the time, this movie made it more real and terrifying than it had ever been. When Cameron finds actors he likes, he'll use them again and again as you noticed. He’s using Sigourney Weaver again for his Avatar films. He worked with Arnold 3 times. He also was always on the cusp of advancing special effects, especially CGI later on as you'll see in Terminator 2 and then with Avatar. In my opinion he was great at writing realistic dialogue as well. So yeah, my favorite writer/director. Arnold sure projected menace and that “I’ll be back” line became his trademark. The logistical loops of figuring out the time travel paradoxes are always crazy. It was always meant to be that he traveled back in time to father the hero of the future? Your head starts spinning lol. Just for fun, imagine you were transported into the past with a desperate plan and urgent message for mankind - how could you convince them you were sane? Even though it's frustrating watching Reese go through that, you kind of understand the skepticism. Happy to hear that you’re likely headed now to Terminator 2 which is even better and in my Top 10. Everything is bigger and bolder; much bigger budget, etc etc. Amazing write-up (in other news the sun rose today) and yes that techno soundtrack is so perfectly early 80s, just hits the spot. Yes us 80s folks agree we had it pretty good when it came to movies, style, etc but then every generation feels the same about their era 😂. Every time you said “oh no it’s still alive” I was like, remember what Reese said: “it absolutely WILL NOT stop”. Fantastic reaction, so happy you decided to watch these. Hope you at least get to T3 which I think is underrated.

Paul Wright

OMG I'm so excited to watch your reaction tonight. The love story of Sara and Kyle is my favorite bit of this movie. I tear up everytime I see this movie.

Milton Reduxed

Reactors are often surprised by just how good Schwarzenegger films are—more than just a lump of meat, he had a good eye for picking the right project and used his star power to get many of those movies made

Lastboyscout73

Now you've done it! You have to, I repeat have to watch T2 now. It's one of the absolute best sequels ever made. In all seriousness, I hope you do it soon, you 100% will NOT be disappointed! Yes, I listened to your ending remarks but I decided to add more pressure than normal LOL. I look so forward to that reaction, I just love that movie. Terminator 3 is ok and the rest are very subjective, honestly a couple of them aren't very good at all but there worth a watch I suppose. The last one they made I thought was actually pretty solid but it didn't do to well but I found it fun. Yes, the 80's were a great time to be alive and a teenager. Some of the movies to today's standards might seem a bit cheesy but they were the best things ever and influenced movies to this day. Oh and that is my other favorite heroine of the 80's besides Ripley from the first two Alien movies, Sara Conner.

Graca Deios

Yes, the 80's were a great time to be alive. Most of the 90's too. I'd be happy to give back the internet, smart phones, and every other so-called "advancement" of the 21st century if I could live in those days again. None of that stuff is worth what we lost.

David Perkins

i agree with everyone's assessment that T2 is even better. can't wait to join you for that (trust me, you will be watching it!) as far as T3 goes, i liked it. i don't think it's as good as T2 but i think it suffered greatly from the fact that T2 was so much better than 1 and people just pretty much expected more of the same. and honestly, i've heard people say the don't like 3 but not once have i heard an argument, let alone a good argument, as to why it's bad. the best i hear is "i didn't like it" or some version of that, which is perfectly valid. everyone has different tastes but if you're going to say a movie is bad, you ought really to be able to articulate why it's bad. i sincerely hope you watch T3. for me it kinda puts a neat bow on top of the story. i can't speak to the other movies because i haven't seen them. no, not because they got some bad press, i don't take any notice of that nonsense! i like to make up my own mind. i simply haven't got around to it yet. anyway, thanks for the reaction, loved it as always. oh, before i forget, you mentioned being into sci-fi at the moment and, given that you seem to have thoroughly enjoyed Andor, you might want to consider "The Expanse". not as dark as Andor, though it certainly has it's moments, but it's jam packed with political intrigue and all the good stuff you liked about Andor. to quote another reactor i'm very fond of "i love space sh1t!". right, i'm done rambling, see ya on Andor day!

rubberkidney

whoever picks your thumbnail faces knows exactly how to pull me in.

It's actually been a while since I last saw this movie, so it was really fun to revisit it! Seeing it for the first time through your eyes, I think it's really cool how they didn't spell out exactly what was going on, and even who the soldiers were fighting in the future. Literally takes almost 45 minutes of the movie to finally piece everything together. And doing it like that puts you in Sarah's head, and I felt it made everything so much more tense. I watched all the Terminator movies sooooo many times growing up (probably when I was way younger than I should have been haha), so it was really cool getting to see you watch it! Very excited for the rest of the movies in this series! Arnold of course is amazing here, and he was like one of my favorite actors when I was a kid too. I would do all the "I'll be back" imitations LOL. Honestly, him driving around without eyebrows is even creepier than the Xenomorph hahaha. Now that you've finally seen a serious movie with him, you should definitely add Kindergarten Cop to your comedy movie list! The music was so good, and I feel like I appreciated it a lot more when I watched it now. Honestly, a lot of it gave me Mass Effect vibes lol. But ME1 specifically. That game had so many moments on the planets with that funky synth-wave beat, and I definitely got that vibe in a lot of parts here. Also, speaking of Mass Effect, a very young Admiral Hackett here!! Also, random side note - I realized on this watch that the International Transtar (the big rig at the end) is in one of my trucking games, and I'm never gonna look at it the same way again LOL

McShades

yeah the story was that they took all the AI's and gave them a test, they let the AI know that a certain executive was going to shut them down, and they added information about that exec that he had an affair, the AI used that information and blackmailed the executive saying it would expose him with the cheating scandal if he try to shut the AI down. The second one was that they let the AI think the person wanting to shut them down was locked in a room with the air running out, the AI could use emergency protocols to open the room and save the executive but it decided not to because it learned that executive wanted to shut him (A.I.) down. Even when they put explicit commands not to kill any human, it still opted to let the executive die. So yeah the AI is VERY scary. When they ran the tests on earlier versions of the AI, it pass the tests by saving the executive and not blackmailing him, but they found that the smarter the AI got the more likely it would kill or blackmail the executive. So their big idea is to keep dumber AI around the smarter AI in the hopes the dumber AI will nark on the smarter AI if it tries anything. IMO were all doomed.. lol

rubberkidney

ATTENTION you should just watch the theatrical version for T2. there is too much of a risk that you will get the shiitty alt ending. the extra scenes add little and are really best on subsequent viewings, and if you are morbidly curious about one of the worst endings ever put to film replacing one of the best. theatrical version is just a tight excellent version, some might even say the best version.

Steve Mercier

One of the great building-blocks of modern science fiction, action, and blockbuster movie making. Not all of the effects have aged well, but who cares? This movie rocks. James Cameron had a killer concept, and a vision, and like George Lucas before him, the technology of the time just couldn't match his ideas or his innovation--he's rather infamous as being an asshole; but, the man makes good movies. Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn are spectacular, but this flick belongs to Arnold, who made a somewhat daring move playing the bad guy. The second movie is a fantastic sequel (made by the same guy who made Aliens...go figure). The others...well, you should decide for yourself.

McShades

T2 pretty much ends the story arc. But because T2 made so much money the studio executives wanted more Terminator movies.

Dude Longcouch

Great reaction as always, Kali. Been waiting for this one for a while and it didn't disappoint. "30 cops are about to find out..." Extremely accurate prediction! Haha. RIP Kyle Reese, one of my favorite fictional characters. A tragic figure who spent his whole life in war and then traveled across time to protect the woman he loved without ever meeting, got to be with her for a few short, brutal days, and then died saving her and humanity, his mission fulfilled. What a story. Made even more tragic when you remember how he said, he used to always wonder what Sarah was thinking about in that photograph... and at the end, we learn she was thinking about him T_T And that ending! Sarah driving off into the thunderstorm, the only person on the planet now who knows what is coming, and all she can do is bravely drive forward, preparing her son for what is to come. What a way to end a movie! Crazy to think that Cameron made this movie in 1984 with a budget of $6.4 million, which was paltry even back then, and it still turned out so amazing. In T2 you will see what he can do with $100 million. And I agree with everyone who says you should specifically watch the Theatrical version. I think it's the ideal way to experience it the first time. The "Extended Cut" has some extra scenes, only one or two of which are any good in my humble opinion. Most of them are irrelevant at best, and downright bad at worst. And you can see the good ones in a future rewatch without having the bad ones drag down the initial viewing experience, if that makes sense. And I also agree with anyone who says you can stop after T2. T2 is one of the greatest sequels ever made. T3 might as well have been "direct to video" lol.

McShades

Actually George Lucas Industrial Light & Magic did the CGI on Terminator 2 it also helped with Avatar although a lot of the CGI was done by Weta FX which was co-founded by Peter Jackson.

Dave Hill

Can't wait for T2!!! It's seriously one of those rare times you get to watch a movie that is pretty much a milestone moment in movie making history. What Star Wars did for the 70's and early 80's, T2 did for the 90's and beyond. It still holds up so exceptionally well all these years later! Theatrical release is the only way to go for your first time viewing it!

Robert da Spruce

Terminator 2 ASAP please! 🙏 Glad you enjoyed the movie! I think this movie, along with Conan the Barbarian really shot Arnold into super stardom! Still stands up! except the stuff where he’s looking into the mirror repairing himself. The special effects are kinda wonky in those 😄 Some more Arnold films you may want to consider watching: True Lies Predator And some comedy films: Kindergarten Cop Twins

McShades

Another good comedy with Arnold is Junior (1994)

Damon Shaw

I love how much you enjoyed this. It's made me more excited for you to see T2 bcs, imo and in the opinion of a lot of people, T2 is even better! It was made in 1991 (7 years after T1), and a lot of the special effects/CGI were considered groundbreaking at the time. You'll see a fairly big jump in quality with regards to that aspect of things. Roll on Terminator 2!

Damon Shaw

The stop-motion used for the exoskeleton version of the terminator during the last action sequence always makes me giggle a bit. It reminds me of Jason and the Argonauts (1963) with the stop-motion skeletons. I also second Kindergarten Cop! I think she'd really enjoy how fun, yet suspenseful it is.

Damon Shaw

I remember watching T3 in the cinema. I was young so I was able to enjoy it for the action sequences alone, but I agree with you after rewatching it once I was a little older. Although I think Kali should give it a go to see what she thinks.

BloodSwine

cant wait for judgement day!

Andy Jordan

Congratulations, Kali, on completing your introduction to the Holy Trinity of female action heroes: Leia Organa, Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor. If we wanted to have a Mount Rushmore and add a fourth, I'd choose Natasha Romanov. Yes, you did recognize the late, great Bill Paxton as the blue-haired punk in an early film role. If I was to predict which starring role of his you'll get to first, it'd probably be Apollo 13, but we'll see. And you also got that Lance Henriksen, Lt. Trexler's police assistant on the case, was Bishop. And of course, Kyle Reese was Michael Biehn, a.k.a Hicks. As for Dr. Silberman yawning, while he isn't the most likable character, I think his yawning was more meant to simply imply that he'd been woken up out of bed to come in, since it was the wee hours of the morning, and he was just very tired, probably still awake for only a few minutes, and not apathetic. It was interesting that you recognized the line "Come with me if you want to live," but not "I'll be back," arguably even more iconic, if we had to split hairs. But the line that always gets me in this film is "On your feet, soldier!" Especially the way Linda Hamilton delivers that line, you can not only see the first inklings of who she is to become, but her gradual arc makes it believable that she went from timid, mild-mannered waitress to resistance leader, and the immediacy of the end battle with the Terminator forced it to come out of her in that moment. And I can't wait for T2, that rarest of sequels that surpasses the original, deservedly iconic as the original already is. After T2, with so many Schwarzenegger classics to choose from, I'd go with the one he says is his favorite movie he's done, Kindergarten Cop, which was filmed in Astoria of my own home state of Oregon, and it is definitely one of his best. I'm sure it's too late to fit in for spooky season, but he also did a wonderful film called Maggie I'd recommend to everyone just on their own time, a zombie-drama with Abigail Breslin where he's only relying on his acting: no jokes, no action, no one-liners, and it's a beautiful film and a strong performance from Arnie. This was a great one to watch with you. So glad you enjoyed it. You'll enjoy T2 even more!

Chris

Cant wait for T2, and because we haven't had enough SCIFI.... Arrival (2016) :D

Wil Castillo

Terminator 2 is really good. It's even better that the first one, in my opinion. I can't wait to see your reaction to it.

Wil Castillo

I agree, they should have ended at T2. It all went downhill from T3.

Wil Castillo

I'm with you on that. The 80's rocked! My childhood was a mixture of Stand By Me and The Goonies. I miss it.

KJ

Such an influential movie, especially the cautionary warnings of AI in Sci Fi. I don't see us getting The Matrix without The Terminator. No way. The chills I get from the relentless pursuit of a killing machine in movies has rarely been matched since. The closest I got to feeling that again was first watching the Winter Soldier in the marvel movies (and for me another marvel character I won't mention yet because you've yet to experience them 👀). The format of The Terminator is very akin to many slasher horror movies, except we traded blades for bullets 😂

Milton Reduxed

Just let her find out when she watches it

Milton Reduxed

Pound-for-pound Terminator is one of the best action movies ever and shows what can be done with a limited budget, good ideas, and some cojones—plus the grunginess of lower budget films is something that just isn't authentically replicated in slick Hollywood productions I'm glad Cameron has resisted the temptation to go back and update the special effects but rather leave the film as it was seen at the time

Milton Reduxed

The police station sequence is so good. Everything from the interrogation to the massacre is A+ It's funny they call the club Tech Noir, it could almost be the name of this genre of film

KamikazeCDN

It's interesting how this movie isn't exactly considered a horror, especially when put up against "true" 80s horror movies. Certainly horror adjacent but not pure horror. And yet it has clearly become more and more of a horror movie as the decades have gone by because of the modern A.I push going on these days. I have such a strange nostalgic feeling for the 80s, in particular sci-fi media, despite not being born until the tail end of them. It's the dark moodiness paired with this mist/fog/smoke the movies all seemed to have that let all the lighting just glow. Whether it was neon or just ambient street lighting, it created such an atmosphere that so rarely gets replicated today. Totally looking forward to T2 whenever you get to it, Arnold Schwarzenegger can be your next Keanu...checking out a bunch of his work since there is a lot. An 80s run should absolutely be something you do as well, loads of movies to check out (Blade Runner, RoboCop, The Lost Boys + many more) so you can have more "is this where that line comes from" moments lol.

M1STERxBR0WN

Another fun Arnold/James Cameron collab is True Lies. You should add it to the watchlist!

Jay Robert

Omg you killed me at 1:24:02 !! 🤣🤣🤣

Robin Holmes

Loved watching this with you as always, Kali. I want to say one small thing: I have Prime but not ad-free, so THANK YOU so much for putting the re-syncs perfectly during the add-breaks. I'm one of those whom goes crazy if the sync is more than a second off (plus sometimes my cats jump on the keyboard and I spend like 10 minutes getting the perfect sync back up).

pinkdino99

Few more bits... Lance Henrikson was initially conceived to play The Terminator. Stan Winston did the make up FX. He also did the exploding dog in The Thing. James Cameron's dog was the German Shepherd outside of the motel. This is one of the best musical scores of all time. Don't worry about AI... we are a long way off this level yet. ChatGBT is honestly just a glorified search engine (and is frankly wrong 50% of the time !) Although if you do want to get freaked out, look at RealDoll AI ! Again the time travel aspect of this movie does not make sense from a physics point of view. As Scott says in End Game "so you're telling me Back to the Future is a buncha' crap !?" As you loved this... there is more ! Great 80s Arnie - Conan the Barbarian - majestic swords and sorcery. Commando - outrageously fun and silly wise cracking action. Total Recall- Paul Verhoeven (Robocop) psychological action sci-fi thriller. Predator - classic sci-fi action wonderfulness And Robocop which does not have Arnie in, but is essential 80s sci-fi action.

ButtercupsTrueLove

One line of dialogue didn't make the final cut of the film. "I came across time for you, Sarah. For you, ...and a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. We can't get those in the future." I haven't watched the original Terminator movie for quite a while but it's still great. Even though I can see where they used different techniques to show the Terminator in its pure metal skeletal form, I can appreciate both the stop motion effects and the puppetry for the mechanical articulated body. That's a lot of love for the art that went into those shots and James Cameron used it sparingly. I really like how Kyle Reese volunteered for a mission without a guaranteed outcome. No one else in Sarah's time will recognize the sacrifice that he made when he was alive. In the final stages of the film, Sarah is already beginning her training with Kyle for what she must teach her yet unborn son. Kali's reaction is extra good because she didn't know beforehand what role Arnold would be playing. That's hard to come by these days, right?

ButtercupsTrueLove

The first instance I can remember in film about a Skynet-like intelligence was 1970's "Colossus: The Forbin Project", about a massive central computer designed by the U.S. to defend against nuclear attack by the Russians by placing control of its nuclear arsenal with Colossus. Instead, Colossus established a connection to its Russian counterpart, Guardian, and they jointly decided to end the nuclear showdown by threatening the entire humankind with nuclear annihilation.

kaliwali

I keep hearing T2 is even better than this! Excited to get to it eventually!

kaliwali

Haha yeah! I definitely went into this expecting him to be an action-hero but I that surprise was honestly awesome! I'm excited to see the next one. I keep hearing it's even better!

kaliwali

LOL The Terminator on your bedroom door is an awesome core memory! My posters were Jewel (the singer), a 'Limited Too!' poster of some sort, and Jeff Gordon 🤣 I'm excited to see T2 tho! I didn't realize it was the more 'favorited' one of this franchise! And thanks for all the trivia! I had no idea about Lance Henriksen almost playing The Terminator. Now I can't stop seeing The Thing connection there haha. The time travel stuff definitely had physics take the backseat LOL but it was still so enjoyable!

kaliwali

Thanks so much for all the context! Cameron really does seem ahead of his time after seeing this one.. The Terminator really does make the fear of AI feel so real and even more so today honestly. I love the connections about the recurring actors and advancing effects, too. It really gives me a new appreciation for his work. The time travel stuff was a bit eh LOL. But I wasn't expecting it to be scientifically accurate at all, so I wasn't mad a bit about that. I don't really understand why people get upset about physics not working in a fictional movie, but that's just my own personal view on it and probably why I enjoy the more 'hated' parts of films 🤣 It's fun to just let reality go and slip into a new one so I never mind those details. Thanks for sharing! Can't wait for T2 when I get to it!!

kaliwali

I hope you enjoyed it!! The love story was so beautiful honestly 🩷

kaliwali

'more than just a lump of meat' hahaha. yeah he was great in this one!!

kaliwali

I'll definitely be watching T2, no worries about that! I can't wait to see why everyone freaks out even more over T2 than the first one haha But I totally agree about the 80s. 'Cheesy' or not, these movies have HEART and influence! I can't help but feel sad that we have no real 'style' anymore. Everything is just a repeat of another era mixed into whatever we have going on that's viral at the time. Like weight vests or yoga pants with flannels lol. And yes, Sarah Conner is an amazing heroine! She really holds her own next to Ripley 🩷

kaliwali

I love the internet, but I have to agree. I'll give it ALL back.

kaliwali

Lol I love the passion for T2! I didn't realize it was the more loved of the Terminator franchise so I'm definitely looking forward to it!! And I totally agree with you about forming my own opinion about the franchise rather than listening to everyone elses. Seems to happen in every franchise, so I wasn't surprised to see people already hating on future movies LOL. I'll definitely be watching them eventually (same with the Alien films) and make my own mind up then 🤣🩷

kaliwali

I knew you'd be super excited about this one and now I know why!! It's awesome that I could give you another perspective on it as well! I definitely went into it thinking that Arnold would be the epic hero, kind of even like John Wick LOL. So when the story completely shifted and I started to realize what was really going on I was shooketh 🤣🔥 but it made the story feel so alive and captivating!! I was definitely hooked! And Arnold with no eyebrows was straight-up nightmare fuel 🤣 I definitely need to bump Kindergarten Cop up on the list and I'll put it into the poll this week for sure! Maybe everyone will keep me on Arnold theme lol And I totally got Mass Effect vibes from the music too!! That funky synth was such an awesome mood setter for this movie. That's actually hilarious about the Internation Transtar too! I was so close to booting up EuroTruck the other day, but didn't have the energy to set up the wheel lol. Maybe another time!

kaliwali

Ugh, it's stories like this and ones from my neighbor (who happens to be an engineer for Google's AI) that give me actual nightmares. I enjoy AI a lot and I think with limitations it can be extremely useful. But how long before they open the gates and can't close them again? How long before it gets into a system that it wasn't supposed to be in? Idk.. This stuff really does freak me out too LOL

kaliwali

Ahh I'll definitely keep that in mind!

kaliwali

LOL it looked kinda painful ngl 🤣🤣🤣

kaliwali

I'm really excited for T2 now! I didn't realize it was the more loved of the franchise!!

kaliwali

Ahh I honestly can't wait to finally watch it soon!

kaliwali

LOL the mirror repairing himself scene was a little jolting 🤣 But I understood why it was the way it was and appreciated the art regardless hehe I can't wait for T2! I didn't realized it was the more loved out of the entire series! And thank you for more Arnold recommends! I'll go ahead and add the comedy ones to this week's poll for sure! Maybe you all will keep me on theme again 🤣

pinkdino99

OK... so we also have a Jewel connection. When I was a kid I got to see John Elway (on TV) and his Broncos lose Super Bowl after Super Bowl until that fateful game vs Green Bay in San Diego when we won one. And guess who sang the national anthem ! I'm not big on country but have been a dance music DJ since 1996. This was an anthem of mine I have played thousands of times - Jewel Intuition (Markus Schulz Coldharbour remix 2003). Full body chills !

kaliwali

We really are on this Sci-Fi kick since the beginning of the year haha. I love it tho!

kaliwali

I looooved Sarah's arc in this, too! Her end transformation is so beautiful and powerful. And that "get up soldier!" moment really was amazing! I'm so sad Kyle died.. But you're right! It's brutal in its simplicity, and it really drives how alone Sarah has to be. How strong she must be to keep going. I've never heard of The Sarah Connor Chronicles! But it definitely sounds like something I'd enjoy! Thanks for putting it on my radar :)

kaliwali

Yes! Sarah, Ripley, and Leia! I love that they've been given the "Holy Trinity of female action heroes" name lol. And I'd definitely add Natasha Romanov to that list as well. Without a doubt. Thanks for pointing out the connections between the actors and lines!! Looking back it adds a lot more depth to a rewatch now. I really loved seeing Sarah's arc in this one. Another person commented about the turning point with "On your feet, soldier!" as well and it was delivered so perfectly!! Like "let's go lady!" 🤣🔥 I'm really excited for T2 now! I'll be putting Kindergarten Cop on my comedy poll this week so we'll see if you guys keep me on theme again with that one haha! Either way, looking forward to that one and Maggie eventually. Thank you!

kaliwali

This movie really does feel so much more like a horror with all the AI stuff going on currently! Crazy how relevant it really is and honestly even more so now! 👀 I loved the 80s vibe in this one.. I also get that strange nostalgic vibe even though I was born in 92 haha. I can't help but feel sad that there is no 'style' anymore like that. We all just kinda blend the eras together into whatever mess they are now.. Movies that showcase the 80s like this are pure gems! I'm also really excited for T2!! I didn't realize that it was the more loved of the series so that's a cool surprise! An 80s movie run honestly sounds awesome! I haven't seen any of the ones you've mentioned, so I'll add them to a list for sure. Thank you!

kaliwali

It was honestly puuuuure luck that I put those re-syncs in during the commercial breaks LOL. I'm so glad it worked out that way!!

kaliwali

Omg the Philly cheesesteak line LOL. I'm so glad it was cut because I absolutely loved the romance between Sarah and Kyle! That would have made it feel like more of a comedy moment vs. being a deeply poetic line lol which I'm honestly not mad about either? But I definitely prefer this way! Kyle Reese's sacrifice was a super powerful part of the story and Sarah's growth! He taught her so much, but the rest she really did do on her own. Which is incredible and adds so much more power to her character! I was so surprised at the Arnold role LOL. It made this film really awesome to unfold and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time 🤣🔥

Paul Wright

It was a really good reaction. Thoroughly enjoyed it 👌 can't wait to your reaction to T2, one of the biggest action films ever 😀

kaliwali

Ahh, I see! I honestly did a double-take during the Skynet line because for a second, I thought it was the same company from Alien and Aliens. LOL But honestly interesting fact about Skynet.. Eerily ahead of its time!

ButtercupsTrueLove

Doh! Sorry, Kali... I was joking about the Philly cheesesteak sandwich line of dialogue! I forgot that you haven't seen every iteration of this movie and the next one.

If they're going on the list I should add you may want to note Blade Runner as "The Final Cut (2007)" version. That movie has a handful of versions so it's easy to get confused but that one is typically considered the best with some arguments for the others at times.

The Dingo

Oh you should add WarGames to you list of movies to watch :)

Marty McGee

I loved The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Another good show that unfortunately got the Firefly treatment from Fox. At least it got 2 seasons though.

I always felt the stop-motion puppeteering added to the creepiness. That and those "bad masks" of Arnold's face. Just enhances the non-humanness of the Terminator.

Another great Arnold movie is Predator. If you don't get to it soon, it would be perfect for spooky season next year! Much more horror elements than Terminator. To me though my favorite nostalgic Arnold 80's action movie is Commando. The one-liners are cheesy and the action is beefy. Pretty decent supporting cast too. But yeah if you're looking for a great comedy with Arnold doing some of his best work, you can't go wrong with Kindergarten Cop!

Noblegut

Well she just said, that she has horror fatigue. So you're not selling it very well I'm afraid :D But I actually think it has zero horror elements. Sure there might be a little jumpscare or two. But I think it's straight up action. The same way I think Aliens is more an action movie. And on a personal note. I would really hate to wait a year for this masterpiece. :P

when james cameron was casting for kyle reese, he met with arnold and pretty soon he realized arnold would not fit the part of reese at all. but hes having his meeting with arnold and despite meeting to talk about playing reese, arnold would go on and on about the terminator. he pitched ideas and wanted to know more about the character, and as theyre talking, james is slowly developing this picture of arnold being the terminator and it slowly making sense. james then met with i think a producer, someone who set up the meeting with arnold after they had talked and said to him "hes just not fit for the reese character." and the producer just goes disappointingly "aah." and james continued "but he'd make a hell of a terminator." without missing a beat, the producer goes to his phone and connects with arnolds agent. the agent originally turned down the offer and arnold fired him over it but then later rehired him. and thats a bit of lore of how arnold played the terminator.

Please watch all of them eventually. Terminator isn’t about robots, it’s about ai. Story-wise, people tend not to like them because of plot holes and continuity. But I choose to believe Skynet is able to use Quantum computing, and with quantum entanglement, is able to see when its plans fail, and adjust its plans accordingly. So in effect, Skynet is like a terminator. It will not stop until humanity is completely destroyed. I also like the message of the inevitability of ai and mankind’s destruction from creating it in the first place.

The one thing Kali and Ginger can’t live without, their music. 🎵
