This show took my heart on an emotional sleigh ride and honestly, I was really here for it bro. I loved these final three episodes. They were real, messy, and the perfect amount of chaos. In the beginning of this show, Clint carried this huge mountain of guilt. He kept Kate at arm's length to protect her the best he could and by these final episodes he finally let himself be free. Be human again. Watching that shift from "please go home, kid" to "okay danger arrow time, partner" was one of the more tender transformations I've seen in the MCU. For a man that measures himself by how well he protects others, this healing was huge and I was so proud of him for it.And I loved Kate! She felt like the beating heart of every episode. She was this eager fangirl with surprisingly amazing skills but no real grounding yet. No personal compass. But by the end, she steps into who she has always aspired to be. A real hero. Watching her confidence, compassion, and messy determination grow in front of us felt so wholesome and inspiring! Then there's Yelena. Our sweet chaotic hurricane of a widow. Under all the jokes and threats and sass, she is still hurting with both fists clenched tight. Seeing her finally confront Clint and hear the truth was heartbreaking but beautiful at the same time. She deserved that closure so much. And last but not least, Pizza Dog. My one-eyed icon LOL. My personal theory of him secretly being Nick Fury in disguise was... clearly not at all where this show was going 🤣 I guess he really was just a silly pizza dog looking for scraps but finding all of the chaos instead. I loved this show so much. The tracksuit bros, the moments of silence for Natasha, and the 'I'll be home for Christmas' vibe. It felt so intimate and sincere. And it wrapped up with so much warmth that I couldn't help but shed a few happy tears lol. Happy Holidays everyone! See you all for some Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Specials next!Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/x7quJybv0DwI watched this on Disney+

I liked having ASL featured in this because my oldest daughter does volunteer work for the deaf. As for the show itself, the most compelling part for me was the cathartic Clint and Yelena confrontation. When someone dies unexpectedly, whether suicide or something else, people often want to throw blame around when in the end you just have to accept. Clint as the weary, reluctant hero hits the mark really well after everything he's been through. I'm not really a fan of the actress playing Kate's mother so no problem for me having her be arrested. : ) She was my least favorite part of the Godzilla: King of the Monsters movie also. Nice write-up Kali.

Knew you'd love this! I have so many things I want to say but won't because Spoilers!

TheJoeKerr

The music that you said kinda sounded dark when Clint was talking to Kate about Natasha and then about him being Ronin. It was the same music used in end game when Natasha sacrificed herself.

Phil Stubblefield

Whoo-hoo! I've got a lot planned today plus guests this evening, so it looks like I'm gonna be up half the night when I finally get a chance to watch this... but I know it will so be worth it! Thanks, Kali! 😁

Nice to hear you liked it, bro :))

William

Awesome, bro! I’ve been look forward to this. 👏🏼

Yelena is awesome, she's easily the best of the new phase characters . Her chemistry with Kate is soooooo fun. This was such a fun Holiday show with heart. For context on the Kingpin, he's one of the leads from Netflix's Daredevil show. After Daredevil came out with a pitch perfect season 3, it was abruptly cancelled, because Disney was about to start Disney plus and wanted all their properties under one channel. Fans were really bummed and confused about the cancellation, and to make matters worse, due to their deal with Netflix, Disney wasn't allowed to use those characters for another 3 years. And because the Netflix shows has such a different tone with the MCU, there was no guarantee they would use the same actors and performances that fans have fallen in love with. Eventually people had accepted that when those characters show up in the MCU, they would probably be recast and Disneyfied. But luckily, Marvel still saw the value and impact of those Netflix shows, so when Vincent D'Onofrio was introduced as Kingpin in the MCU through this show, it was a big deal. And then a week later, Spider-man No Way Home came out in theaters, and featured a small cameo that featured Daredevil as Peter's lawyer as another "oh shit" moment for fans. Disney loves their synergized secrets and Daredevil fans were eating well that week. Which is why some of us wanted you to watch DD first, but it really doesn't matter which order you watch it, it doesn't detract from the enjoyment of Hawkeye. And as of this year, even though they tried to sanitize it, Disney officially considers the Netflix shows as canon.

Pretty close there on LARP, bro. It stands for Live Action Role-Playing. I have some friends that do it; not for me personally (I'm a D&D man myself), but I admire it.

Mack

Can't wait for you to watch Thunderbolts bro! 😂

Kali, calling the Rogers musical performance “off-Broadway”?!? 😉. I take (joking) offense, as the main “civilian” performer in it is Adam Pascal who played Roger in the musical Rent both on Broadway and in the movie adaptation. Glad you enjoyed the series and that it fit into your December timeline to coincide with the holidays!🎄

Joe

So glad you loved this show! You were asking what Clint’s idea was at the end. Remember they were discussing ideas for Kate’s super hero name. And Clint says I have an idea, and the “Hawkeye” logo flashes on the screen. That was implying that Kate should just be Hawkeye, which is consistent with the comics. I love that this movie honored black widow’s death in a way I wish they did a bit more in Endgame. And bringing Yelena into it was a great way to do that. And how could you not like more Yelena? This show was full of surprises. I am so glad you at least got to see Kingpin in Spider-verse. Looking forward to you seeing more of him too.

SweetSummit

Best post credits scene Marvel has ever done hands down.

kaliwali

AHH you're right! Thank you so much for clearing this up in my mind. Did we know that before this moment?? I feel like I don't remember that being info before but I could have forgotten!

Onno Smits

Your reaction to this, probably my favourite of the MCU shows, was everything I was hoping for! The twists, the emotions, the jump-scares! When you took a sip at 01h03m into the video I knew that was bad timing... 🤣 Thank you so much for cramming so much content in such a short amount of time, in order to get this out in time for Christmas. It was the perfect holiday gift!

Even though I liked this show a lot with how it finished several chapters from Clints life I prefer shows with a more serious tones especially when I find the quips don't fit so to speak. so I sometimes find both Yelena and Kate annoying personally. They also kind of kind of ruined Kingpin who is one of my favorite villians with Vincent D'Onofrio playing him. Really looking forward to you jumping on the MCU wagon again especially with Daredevil which is one of my personal favorites and crossing my fingers that you watch the other netflix marvel shows as well! (I also love most DC movies) EDIT: I just wanted to add I love these multiple episode... episodes? xD I use them as my snack day so I just buy a mountain of my favorite stuff and sitt there for x amount of time.

I ended up really enjoying this series! So many fun character dynamics, and such a great mix of heart, healing, and humor. All the silliness from the different character dynamics themselves was so good haha. Kate and Yelena's mac and cheese dinner was pure gold LOL. Finally getting to see Yelena's character again reminded me of why I enjoyed the Black Widow movie so much! Florence Pugh just steals the show anytime she's on screen :) Hawkeye is such a grounded, relatable hero, with so much heart. And I think this show captured that all so well. Especially in his relationship with Kate. Watching both of them grow together was really awesome to see. Thanks for the reaction! This series went by so quick on your channel and I loved it haha, bc I was so excited the whole way to see what happens next!

By the way - something small that a lot of people miss. Back in Avengers: Age of Ultron, when Natasha is dropped from the jet to help Captain America, Clint told her "Give 'em hell". It's a fan theory that this was something special between him and Natasha, a little thing he says when they are going into danger. Fast forward to the last episode of Hawkeye, Clint turns to Kate and says, "Give 'em hell". The fan theory is - this is the moment that Kate kind of fills the hole that Natasha left, it's the moment that he finally accepted what Natasha did, and he finally decided to move on. i think there is an amazing beauty in that moment. I know the GotG Christmas Special is next, but I also know you have Daredevil coming up. As you recall, we suggested watching that before Hawkeye, and there is a reason for that. Just remember when you get to it, that Daredevil is set before Hawkeye timewise. This will help you be a little less confused when you watch it.

Lastboyscout73

Pizza Dog is just Pizza dog in the comics. That was an Agents of Shield logo on the back of the watch and the 19 was her Agent number, which implies that she is "Mockingbird" from the comics that Clint did get into a relationship with. Obviously, just like any Marvel product they embellish a bit from the comics for the shows/movies. Kate Bishop is the new Hawkeye and considering the state of Marvel movies it did look like they were working towards the "Young Avengers" but it's kind of all up in the air atm. I'm glad you did get to meet Kingpin in the "Into the Spiderverse" movie because just like Spider-Man he is a big Daredevil villain as well and that's why I was pushing a bit for you to watch at least DD season 1. The same actor plays Kingpin. It was a big deal that they brought him back because he plays that character so well and I hope you do get to watch that series eventually. Now that they are doing DD Born Again, most fans were so glad to see them bring back the same actors. That's all I will say because I won't spoil anything. I like this show a lot as well when it came out, it's a bit sad that as a reactor you can't watch the breakdowns of the episodes like we could as they came out on YouTube. It really informs a lot of what you don't know about the comics compared to the show and so forth. Maya's name is Echo and they do a show for her also but I don't know if you will get to that one because even though I enjoyed it, it's kind of a "side" show before Marvel decided to dial back all the shows they were putting out. I am looking forward to you watching the GotG holiday special, it's so fun and I have a feeling you are going to love it. Since you mentioned "Thunderbolts" I think when you get to it, you will love that too. I know I did. Great job on your reaction, I'm glad to you decided to do it in 3 episode sections.

There is actually a movie called Ladyhawke (1985) directed by Richard Donner, the director of...Superman!!! 😃

If an actor could have a direct phone line to my soul, then it's Florence Pugh for me. There's just something about the way she emotes on-screen that simply compels my heart; and she's able to do it through a put-on accent, even making it shine in the middle of a gigantic action set piece. I feel like every performance she's given in the MCU is transcendent. She has this way of extracting absolutely every ounce of emotion on the page and amplifying it on the screen. Random side note: There's a series by National Geographic on Disney+/Hulu called, "No Taste Like Home". Rather than attempt to type up a selling point for it, I'd rather say that if you're at all into culinary history, and how food brings people together, I recommend it. Each episode centers around a specific person, ranging from Issa Rae, to James Marsden and, of course, Florence Pugh. It's really beautifully done. If you're into stuff like "Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat", Tucci's "Searching for Italy", or Vincenzo's Plate on YouTube, it might be up your alley.

Paul Wright

It was new info for the MCU at this point in the journey, but I think Laura alluded to it in Age of Ultron. In the comics, Agent 19 is codenamed "Mockingbird", a hero in her own right that was entangled with Hawkeye, but the MCU decided to split the two identities, with their Mockingbird being someone else that I can't spoil until Marvel decides to bring a certain show back into the fold.

Chuckles1004

This is by far my favorite MCU series. How bout you? Before this, ofc I liked Hailee but my favorite film of hers was her debut in True Grit. Not a real fan of the Bumblee or Pitch Perfect 3. lol And not a fan of Hawkeye at all, least favorite Avenger for sure, but this show was sooo funny and amazing with so much heart, and ofc everyone always loves Florence. If you ever get to Thunderbolts, she's so heartfelt and grabs at your heartstrings.. The chemistry between here and Hailee was so witty, natural and hysterical, I always hoped they could/would interact again, somewhere. And not to mention, badass Echo, The LARPers, Pizza Dog, Kingpin Cameo. And, Rogers the Musical hahahahaha. Love this show. Even though it came out years ago, i've watched and re-watched this series so many times.

pinkdino99

Continuity wise this is the first time Marvel have dropped the ball IMO. Mockingbird was already established (quite beautifully) in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (recommended yadda yadda yadda...) AoS had kept perfect continuity with the MCU until this moment.

Jose Morales

This show is great. I know Kate said the name in background chatter at the end, but the dog's name is Lucky The Pizza Dog and is from the comics as well. Although Nick Furry is a nice "Nick-name" Lol. I found Yelena and Kate's interactions to be great. Even fighting each other, Yelena never wanted to hurt Kate. Their banter was also funny.

pinkdino99

Hailee and Pugh had such great chemistry in this. There is an awesome YouTube supercut of their interactions. Kate's face in the elevator scene just kills me every time. If you want more Wilson Fisk, maybe try the Netflix Marvel series DareDevil (both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage series and the Defenders team up are all great, Jessica Jones S01 being one of the best TV shows ever made). I'm not sure we will ever see Renner in this role again. After his accident Marvel offered less for Renner to return which he refused.

Joe

Completely agreed on the first season of Jessica Jones.

Simon

This is my second time watching this show and I have found myself appreciating it more this time around. Not sure how likely it is but I do hope we see more of these two in the future.

Dude Longcouch

Oh man, I loved watching your journey of coming around on Jack. I'm assuming this is your first Tony Dalton role (aside from his brief appearance in TLoU season 2)? When you said you loved how he could easily play both parts, you have no idea how NOT WRONG you were haha. I hope some day I get to see you react to Better Call Saul (but you need to do Breaking Bad first, of course).

Dude Longcouch

Agreed about Pitch Perfect 3, but I still unashamedly love Pitch Perfect 1 and 2. If you read this Kali, consider adding the Pitch Perfect movies to your watch list, I think you would love them.

kaliwali

That's awesome of your daughter to volunteer for the deaf! ASL has always been something I've wanted to learn, but never got around to. I know the alphabet but that's it. So seeing it in this show really got that goal back into my head again! I agree about the Yelena and Clint confrontation. BEST part of this show, for sure! I'm glad they honored Natasha so much in this as well. It felt like in Endgame her death wasn't put in the spotlight enough, which I know sounds weird. But it felt very rushed to me.. I love that this show honored her and how much she meant to those around her.

Marty McGee

Remember in the end credits of Falcon & Winter Soldier, Yelena was given the assignment. I think it's safe to assume that was the moment that Kate's mom hired her. Also I don't think the details were common knowledge what happened on Vormir with Black Widow and Hawkeye. Just that Natasha died. I think this is probably my favorite MCU series. WandaVision is a very close 2nd, but Hawkeye is so fun. It's a perfect balance of the action, comedy, and feels. They did a really good job with Jack, faking us out multiple times with him. And Kingpin is a crazy scary dude. For more of him you gotta check out Daredevil. A great show from the Netflix-verse, that's now sort of MCU-canon. I haven't seen all of the Netflix (now on Disney+) Marvel, but Agent Carter, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones are top-notch limited-seasons shows that are at least loosely based in the MCU. Also Agents of Shield, but that's a big commitment with several long seasons.

kaliwali

AHHHH. Clearly I must rewatch Endgame. I'll be honest with you... Normally I rewatch most movies I've watched here again eventually. Endgame is one I haven't been able to rewatch yet 😅🔥

kaliwali

Thanks for hanging out with me, bro 🔥

kaliwali

I love that mac&cheese made this list of epicness LOL

kaliwali

I was wondering in the back of my mind if Hawkeye was going to be Kate's name! But I've always known Clint as Hawkeye so I couldn't latch onto that idea lol. I guess it is well deserved tho! And I love this show for the same reason! They definitely brushed over Natasha's death a bit in Endgame which upset me. This show did a beautiful job at bringing it back around and honoring her 🤍

Cory Stanish

I loved how in episode 4, Clint just goes with Kate's little Christmas party even though you know he isn't in the mood. That's where it really starts to seem like Clint doesn't only care about Kate's welfare, he actually kind of likes her, even if he's not willing to admit it. To clarify, that wasn't the Avengers logo on the back of Laura's Rolex, it was the SHIELD logo. She was Agent 19, because they had numerical code names for most of their agents. Sharon Carter was Agent 13 while she was with SHIELD, and Agent 33 was one who got a lot of screen time in the Agents of SHIELD tv series. Hawkeye said that the watch belonged to someone he knew who was out of the game, which was her. He was just being cautious not mentioning exactly who that someone was. Clint isn't the only former SHIELD agent in the family!

Paul T

Bro, that was a great journey through this series with you. I watched it when it came out and that's been it til now. You have great insight into things and makes the experience sooooooo much better. You are the Bro of Bro's!!! If I could get and send you a truck suit, I would 😉☺️ See you in the guardians holiday special, if not before. BRO on ‼️‼️

Chuckles1004

Yes, agree! Didn't me to disparage Pitch Perfect. They were very good and the first Pitch Perfect is Iconic.

Jonathan Spahn

This is one of my favorites 😍 I think it was received alright, but not as well as I think it deserved. The acting was really good. I loved watching with you, but I'm tired of crying, lol!🤣 Looking forward to the next one 👏 Oh, hey. Side comment. I realize this isn't a music reaction, but since they mentioned two not so great modern bands in the show (no shade to anyone out there that actually likes them 😏🫢), I thought I would contribute my two cents with a recommendation. I don't know if you listen to rock music, but a new band has emerged called The Warning out of Mexico. Three sisters, playing since they were children, have 4 albums now. Best rock band in almost 30 years. I think you should check them out. I would love to know what you think (I think you'll love them 😉 just a hunch).

Phil Stubblefield

Perhaps Marvel did drop the continuity ball, but those of us who never read the comics would never have known. I *love* AoS, and I loved Adrienne Palicki's portrayal of Bobbi Morse/Mockingbird. I've watched seasons 2 and 3 multiple times, and I don't believe they ever mentioned Bobbi's agent number (correct me if I'm wrong), so I never would have drawn the connection between Clint's wife and Mockingbird.

Phil Stubblefield

Well said, Maz! I agree with everything you said, especially with Florence Pugh stealing nearly any scene she's in!

Phil Stubblefield

Well, it took longer than expected for me to find the time to finish this, but finally! This is the first time I've watched Hawkeye since it's debut, and the rewatch solidified my view of it as the second best MCU series, barely behind Wandavision. As everyone else has already said, the mixture of drama, comedy, and action is brilliant! Kate and Clint's growing relationship is gold, but then Yelena arrives and steals every scene she's in! Such entertaining viewing! One of your comments that hasn't been addressed is why the character is called "The Ronin" instead of just "Ronin". The word rōnin is not a name per se, it's a Japanese title that originally described a samurai warrior whose master was either dead or who had disowned the warrior. A ronin thus had the freedom to decide which causes to take up. In the case of Clint, he became a samurai-like warrior who worked for no one, making his own decisions about who deserved to die, so he was in effect a modern ronin. Because of his global impact on organized crime, he became known as *The* Ronin. Thanks for another fantastic reaction, Kali! 😁 I look forward to your return to more MCU properties!

FatLittleButterfly

did you see the LARPers were actually the musical actors? xD

Onno Smits

She has locker nr. 19 in the show. And they call her Agent 19 on comms on at least two different occasions. But I guess you could call all of that coincidence? 🤷‍♂️ At the end of the day, the only "canon" that matters is your personal head-canon, right? I like to think S01 and S02 of AoS are canon to the MCU, especially given the pretty huge tie-ins to those Phase 2 movies. And the other seasons are then on a fun diverged timeline.

Wil Castillo

Maya also has a good story in a 5-episode miniseries titled "Echo" on Disney+.

Daniel Morgan

LOVED your reaction in this second half. 😁😁 Especially with Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova, been waiting to see that. 🤣🤣 You probably been told this, but most of us knew Kingpin from the Daredevil series. When this series was made during the same time period as No Way Home, you can tell Marvel was trying to implement the Daredevil Netflix series into the MCU more closely. He was even in She-Hulk to attempt to make the series more popular, but it's still the worst rated MCU series. Few connections between No Way Home and Hawkeye: Yelena mentions the new and improved Statue of Liberty (with Captain America's shield), where Spidey fought all the villains in the end. And Spidey swung by the Rockfeller Center in the last scene, the same place Hawkeye and Kate fought together in the last episode. In case you don't know, from the comics: 1. The dog's name still, Lucky the pizza dog. 2. Jack Duquesne is Swordman who was Hawkeye's mentor before working for the Mandarin. (I liked him in the show.) 3. Echo's powers is similar to Taskmaster (mimicking her opponents moves), has a signature white hand print on half her face, and she was an adoptive daughter of Kingpin. 4. Kingpin is a crimelord enemy of Spider-Man and Daredevil, whose main powers is durability and enhanced brute force like a sumo wrestler (he isn't dead in this show despite being shot). 5. The S.H.I.E.L.D. logo and 19 on the watch, in the MCU reveals this whole time she used to work for them as Agent 19, (which was Mockingbird's agent name in the comics as she was Hawkeye's consort). 6. LARP stands for Live Action Role Play (I love their theme song). 7. Kate Bishop just goes by Hawkeye in the comics, mentored by Clint, but gets her looks from Hawkeye and Mockingbird (she's only seen in the show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) And Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you Kali. 🌲⛄❄️🎄☃️🌨️🎅🤶🦌🛷🧑‍🎄🫂

rian

the idea was “Hawkeye” 😃
