Oh my gosh. I know I went into this arc really hesitant because of the spider demons and creepy crawlies... But these episodes were my absolute FAVORITE so far!Zenitsu absolutely shattered my heart. Watching him talk about himself the way he does. So painfully self-aware of his own fear, his crying, the way that people eventually leave him. He almost expects abandonment before it even happens. Then learning the true nature of why he owed money.. That girl just used him? Jeez. Poor Zenitsu loves love so much. He just throws his whole heart at the world and hopes someone will catch it.Learning this about him is why I find myself loving him even more now. I can't help it. Because honestly, same. There's something so sincere about a character who wears his heart so openly. Zenitsu believes he's weak, he's annoying, that no one really wants to stick around.. but he's actually capable of something beyond incredible. Watching his flashback with his gramps was so beautiful. The way he sees himself versus the way his master believed in him. I just kept thinking: I wish Zenitsu could see himself the way others do. Because he's amazing. Then Inosuke, who is basically the human embodiment of running headfirst through a wall just to see if it'll break. I love his drive so much. The man simply does not understand the concept of taking a breather. Tapping out when his body is failing. He literally Jedi mind tricks himself into pushing harder and to ignore the pain rushing through his body. Watching him get frustrated because he was "thinking too much like Tanjiro" had me dying. He hates introspection like it's a literal disease. But really underneath all the yelling and head smashing his story hurts too. The moment we get a glimpse into his past and see a woman (maybe his mother?) sending him off a cliff as a baby to save him.. why? The fact that he doesn't even remember her or that moment. That he grew up not knowing what love ever looked like. It makes sense now why he claws and fights against everything and everyone. But still, despite himself, he is changing. Tanjiro and Zenitsu and the old Wisteria lady are slowly reshaping the world around him. Even if he's screaming the entire way there lolAnd then there's Tanjiro.I realized something during these episodes that completely changed how I saw his father. Because up until now, it felt almost like Tanjiro's dad was absent from the family story. Like maybe he wasn't really there in the way Tanjiro's mother was. But that wasn't it at all. He wasn't gone because he abandoned them for the demon slayer corp.He was sick. He was there with his family until the end. Tanjiro was just so little at the time. And he tried in the time that he had to pass everything he knew and loved down to Tanjiro. The Hinokami Kagura, the sacred fire dance, the breathing technique of their family. His earrings. Tanjiro was just so young that those memories slipped away.. Until the moment he needed to remember them. That entire fight in Episode 19 was honestly one of the most breathtaking anime sequences I've ever seen so far.The moment Tanjiro remembers the Hinokami. The music swelling. The animation shifting into something almost dreamlike. The fire cutting through the dark and lighting up the entire night. Then Nezuko arriving in the final moment with her blood demon art explosion.I got actual chills and was just stunned for a moment there LOL. There was so much I wanted to say to you guys in that moment, but could only squeeze out a "THIS IS SO COOL" 😅But it wasn't just flashy. It wasn't just cool. It was beyond emotional. Like watching generations of love, sacrifice, and memory all converge into this one final moment of desperate hope.It was honestly shocking to see Tomioka and Shinobu arrive and so swiftly and easily destroy the demons of this mountain. These demons nearly killed Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke. They brought them to their absolute breaking point. And the Hashira just cut through them like it was nothing. Just another day on the job.It makes me honestly so excited to keep watching more! Because it shows just how far our trio still has to go and train. We've been watching them struggle, bleed, cry, and barely survive. But somewhere out there are intense warriors operating on an entirely different level. And one day, maybe Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke will stand there too. Demon Slayer keeps reminding me that underneath all the swords and demons.. This story is really about people learning how to carry their pain, their love, and their memories forward. And I absolutely love it for that. Can't wait to watch more with you all next week!
