Wow. Just... Wow

Kilgrave is so deeply narcissistic that even his apologies feel like performances. Every soft word carries this weight of twisted manipulation underneath. He doesn't want to be better or do better. He doesn't have a conscience for it. He just wants to be seen as better. He wants Jessica to do the emotional labor of fixing him so he can keep believing that he is a victim in everyone else's story. Don't get me wrong. His life growing up was tragic. But that doesn't excuse the person he has become. The monster he has grown into. His "I can be the good guy if you help me" energy was almost convincing for a moment. I found myself nervous that Jessica would slip into his web again. Slip into someone she hates just to keep the world around her safer. But then Jessica reminded me exactly who she is.There's something so powerful about the way she moves through her own trauma. Not perfectly. Not gracefully. Just honestly. She knows what monsters sound like when they whisper sweet things. She knows how dangerous pity can be. So what would Jessica do?She would choose truth over comfort. Survival over false fantasy.Strength over being emotionally manipulated. It made me want to fight my own demons the same way.It gave me a burning desire to look anyone trying to ever manipulate my emotions again and say, not today. Not ever again.I really love that these episodes didn't let charm erase cruelty.Kilgrave may know how to play the role of a broken wounded man, but Jessica knows the script too well to truly fall for any of it. She surprised the heck out of me. And it was so extremely satisfying. She's bruised, exhausted, and carrying so much. But there's also so much strength in her that refuses to ever break.Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/bQ8RKMtn7TkI watched this on Disney+

Woohoo, I'm so early! Just finished your reaction to ep 5+6 last night. Thanks for sharing! peepoPopcorn

Honestly, this show has been even better than I remembered, and I liked it the first time I saw it, but I did not appreciate it enough. It makes me wonder if I'd feel the same about the other Netflix shows after this. I really hope you'll continue with them because I'd like to rewatch them all and see them again through modern eyes. And yeah, not all of them were very well received at the time, but I think you're really good at finding value even in things that weren't critically successful, so you'd probably still enjoy all of them.

I'm still afraid to really talk about my actual feelings regarding this show, despite what I wrote about the ALIAS comics on the first episodes you watched. I just don't want to be a downer, I guess. I'm sure many of us in the comment section feel the same way, because you're never going to connect with Jessica without a profound reason, in my opinion. As a man who experienced some not-so-good stuff as a boy, I feel so visible through the lens of Jessica. I genuinely believe that this show was made FOR victims of various kinds, not TO them.

Morah-SDG

One of my favorite episodes, the one with Jessica and Killgrave just walking about, actually looking into the unfortunately twisted psychopathy of our villain. Really great stuff from David Tennant.

As much as I am excited to sit down to watch some more of this phenomenal show, my eyes are glued to the YouTube subscribers count as it races towards the 100k..... Soon, very, very soon you will be the proud owner of a glorious shiny silver YouTube play button trophy and I know with absolute certainty that I speak, not just for myself but for every single one of us when I say congratulations Kali.....you truly deserve this and it couldn't have happened to a more genuine, honest, hard working, generous person than you....... You're one of a kind Kali and we all adore you..

kaliwali

I'm not gonna say 100% for sure I'll do the entire series, but I'm definitely leaning heavily that way for now with how much I've loved this one and Daredevil so far!

kaliwali

I totally get it and feel the exact same way about this show 🤍 I love the way it addresses trauma and this episode made me re-realize that I never have to apologize for anything. Nobody should tell you how to live your life or who you are as a person. I'm right there in the past trauma boat with you and even into my early 20's with some horrible narcissistic boyfriends. And somehow Jessica was the one to help me re-realize that you can't change those types of people and that's okay. Such a great message in these two episodes honestly.

kaliwali

So close! It's incredible to think how far the channel has come through all its ebbs and flows 🤍

Amko Basic

That blank stare at that sex scene in the first episode... It felt sooo long and it felt like I was watching it with a family member xD One of my favorite things with this show is how it feels like you have a hole in your belly and then they throw out these insanely funny quips like with Jessica wearing a purple dress to his funeral. Like I said I have seen the show before but when the chef and the maid dozed off I thought they both got a brain aneurysm because they kept their eyes open for god knows how long... Jesus I'm stupid! Go Jessica!

KJ

The writing for this show is so strong. This is my fourth watch and it's still just as good. Kilgrave is an incredible villain.

Fred Aczon

One quick cameo you might have missed, the officer who let Jessica go in the precinct was Brett Mahoney. The one good cop in Daredevil, Foggy's and Matt's friend with the cigar addicted mother. David Tennant is soooo good in this show as Killgrave, both frightening and captivating.

Terry In the UK

I won't pretend to be thrilled to read your message, but as someone who posted a comment that could be read by everyone, I can do no more than accept your critique. First of all , I am not and nor have I ever been a stalker or a sociopath. What I am is someone who was raised to be polite and to always try to find something nice to say to everyone. I'm still struggling to comprehend how complimenting someone on their reactions and channel is "freaky". As for genuinely being congratulatory to Kali for reaching the landmark milestone of 100 thousand YouTube subscribers, I would honestly have expected everyone to have been excited and delighted for her. My other point that everyone "adores" her was not an exaggeration I don't believe. People, especially those here on Patreon love Kali's reaction style and it isn't far fetched to assume that she is appreciated by everyone for the hard work and effort she goes through to give us these reactions. It has never been my intention to come across as anything more than complimentary and it was never my intention to offend anyone, including Kali with any of my comments either here or on YouTube, but unfortunately it seems like I have. For yourself and anybody else who has read anything I've written and viewed them in a manner that they were not intended, I'll offer my apologies now. I was raised to be polite and have no intention of changing who I am, but I will prevent any further embarrassment or offence to anyone by making this my last ever comment, both here or on YouTube. This way, I can keep my integrity whilst ensuring that nobody has the opportunity to get offended again in the future. Unfortunately, that will mean me cancelling my Patreon subscription as well as no longer subscribing to her YouTube channel, which for me will be a huge disappointment....but I have no further intention of appearing to be stalking which was never the case, or of being a sociopath which I am not...or of being a freak, which I most definitely don't enjoy being accused of being... Again, apologies for offending you and anyone who was whilst reading my comments. Kali, I'm especially sorry if I offended you, that was never intended..... there is a few days before my subscription was due to renew, obviously I will cancel it in order to ensure your community stays a happy place for everyone. In the meantime, I will refrain from making any further comments on any Patreon posts as well as on YouTube from now on... I'm sorry for any offence to you and everyone else.... lastly, as this will be my last comment, congratulations on the 100k. You deserve it and many, many more in the years and months ahead. Wishing you, your channel and all the fabulous people in your community success and happiness...thank you for the many months of enjoyment your videos have given me as well as introducing me to the wonderful world of Animé.

Top five TV shows of all time (no... I am not putting them in order).. - Band of Brothers - Jessica Jones s01 - Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. s04 - True Detective s01 - Lost s01/02

kaliwali

Terry, please never let rude comments let you decide how to present yourself online. That person has been a troll to people here in the past. Unfortunately, the internet is a rough place sometimes. I hope you don't stop your support & comments that are always enjoyable to read just because of one person's bad attitude towards others. I'm sorry this happened here on my channel.

Howie

Really appreciate your written thoughts along with each reaction. Always well written and well expressed! In case you didn't know already, Killgrave is known as the Purple Man in the comics.. thus the purple suit and purple lighting at times. But in the comics, Killgrave's skin is actually purple. Episode 8 is probably my favorite JJ episode. We get some of her backstory, meet her "mom", see exactly how powerful Killgrave is, get some of his backstory as well.. and it asks some very interesting questions.

Mark Lecuyer

Always have loved the ending of 1-8 WWJD - after the conversation with Trish and WWTD - what Jessica did do was perfectly Jessica.

Walker

When she fell into the trash pile and gave that guy a card it reminded me when she was dressed up as a hoagie and the little girl, said “ I was saved by the sandwich”. 🥪 😂It’s the only happy moment I remember from this season. With such a dark episode I needed that laugh. This is a terrible thought but what if you had KG vocal cords surgically removed?

Terry In the UK

Kali, thank you for your words of support. They are very much appreciated, but please don't ever feel any need to apologise because this was on your channel.....I certainly wouldn't wish for you to feel any responsibility for something written by someone else. I do understand that the internet can be rough sometimes, and I am sure I'm not the first person to ever be trolled. Sometimes...most of the time actually, I do feel inconsequential and life's knock backs have dented any confidence I may have once had to the point that self deprecation is a normal everyday feeling. I am just me ......and my upbringing to be polite is something that I am proud of and it's the one trait that I don't have any doubt about or would want to change. I have noticed the original comment has been deleted, but it has left me with lingering feelings of self doubt. The last thing I wanted to do was end my support to you, your Patreon or YouTube channel...your reactions are a constant highlight of my days and I know I've never hidden my newly found appreciation for the shows you've been watching and how much joy they've bought me...so to miss out on them would only deprive me of these wonderful shows. I haven't cancelled my subscription here or on YouTube and I won't do so, I guess that was a knee jerk reaction to what I read but I am left with pause for thought regarding my comments as I would never want to write something again in fear it is taken out of context. Wishing you a wonderful evening and my sincerest congratulations on the 100k milestone, you truly do deserve all the praise and recognition that brings you.

Tony Wegner

First time commenting just to say that I love these write-ups you do for every set. The discussions are good, but these little mini reviews set you apart imo.

Mister Lou

I feel like Luke Cage leaving was a good way to separate him from this show so he can start his own series? 🤔 maybe

Camron

In the comics Killgrave is called the Purple Man and has purple skin.

Darian Harman

Bendis just "gets" trauma, and victims. More than that, he knows how to make you feel like you're in good hands with the way he chooses to tell such stories. When this show came out, I was in a relationship with a woman who was a victim of grooming and SA as a teenager (she and I are BFF's now). She really loved how much I knew about superhero stuff, and when it was announced that Jessica Jones was getting her own show, I was over the moon. I remember all of the warnings I gave her about what the show would focus on if they did right by the character--which they did--and despite all of that, she was so strong in her insistence that we watch it together. I cannot, cannot, canNOT tell you how profoundly this show affected her. The indentations left in my arms by her fingernails, the amount of times she thought she saw herself as "a piece of shit" because of the parallels between her own defense mechanisms and Jessica's, the conversations we had about where the faults really lie, etc. It's so true-to-life. As much as this show speaks to me and my own story, I know that it speaks to others in a way that I could never truly comprehend. I feel so blessed that I got to experience it with someone who has basically lived Jessica's life. As universal as this show is for victims who are still "messy" and unpacking all of their unfortunate junk, it manages to get so specific.

Walker

I keep thinking all of good things that KG could do with this ability , but I guess it’s unreasonable to think that a middle aged grandiose narcissist is going to change. We saw that even when he’s trying to do good things he’s still doing evil.. He’s clearly trying to manipulate Jessica by saying see all these bad things that could be stopped if you stay with me, but if you leave me all these bad things are gonna happen, gaslighting 101. He’s actually really good at manipulation, outside of his ability. As sad as it made me feel seeing what happened to KG as a kid many of us have experienced truly terrible things for years as children and we choose not to go out and perpetuate the darkness. Hopefully we find a positive outlet and do good things with our lives, or at least we do the best we can and don’t hurt others.. I was both thrilled and terrified to have kids because of my childhood. How do you give someone something you’ve never seen or experienced? I took classes and read lots of books. I tried therapy and various other things but for me having a daughter and giving her the kind of life that I never had as a kid was the only truly healing thing for me. So I don’t buy KG excuse that he was abused so he had to continue the cycle. I see that as just another manipulation.

Walker

I just saw that your subscribers on YouTube hit 100 K. Congratulations Kali. You absolutely deserve it. Thank you for so many laughs, cries, jump scares, fun and drama! By far the best videos on YouTube and Patreon. On to 200k! 🎈🧨😇

Paul Wright

They truly distinguish her from other reactors. This is my favorite Patreon channel for this and many other reasons.

kaliwali

OMG I definitely missed this! Ty for pointing him out. I love that!

kaliwali

I can't wait to get into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and maybe even True Detective this Fall finally now that I'm watching more shows 👀

kaliwali

After just finishing X-Men 3 yesterday... maybe he needs 'the cure' 👀😅

kaliwali

i thought it'd be black like his soul

kaliwali

I'm glad you love the write-ups! I always feel like I realize a lot more after sitting with a film or show for a bit while I'm editing it for Patreon so I love writing those thoughts out for you all and I'm happy to know some of you enjoy reading them

kaliwali

I can't believe I never put that together! 😅 Did i miss them sayign his last name?

kaliwali

YES, exactly! And honestly very similar to how I felt after having a daughter and also suffering a traumatic upbringing. My daughter healed me so much in so many ways. I'm so glad that she doesn't have to suffer the same way I did and walk on eggshells around her home 🤍 So yes, he is 100% narcassistic and just because you suffer trauma doesn't mean you get to inflict it on others 'just because'. The circle shouldn't continue. Trauma doesn't cure trauma. Breaking the cycle does.

kaliwali

Thank you so much!!! Such a huge milestone 😭🙀

Howie

Luke Cage is known as Power Man in Marvel comic books and the comic series ended a while ago (the 80s). But the JJ show revived interest in him!

Mister Lou

Oh maybe I just spoiled that 🤔 thinking back they might have only said his first name? But those pieces can be put together fast.. his name is Luke, there's a series called Luke Cage, he's got some powers like her.

pinkdino99

True Detective is one short season and then all done, but it feels so much more meaty due to the extremely high level of both writing and acting. At four episodes in, if you stop and think that's just four episodes, it will blow your mind. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. follows the Marvel MCU timeline. 10 episodes in they were told about The Winter Soldier plotline... Yeah...

Peter Wyatt

Like you said, he's narcissistic, and purple often represents royalty. He has to be feeling all high and mighty being in control of others like this. He probably considers himself the king of that house and Jessica the queen.

Peter Wyatt

The interesting thing about his power is that there might be a higher inclination to do bad with it instead of doing good with it. That's because his power is essentially about taking away another person's free will. He's a puppet master with his puppets, controlling their movements through mind control. How does one feel about the idea of stripping another person of their personal freedom other than being numb to that fact? I find that a lot more people would have fun making puppets rather than compelling a person who is doing bad to do good. Imagine if Kilgrave told Malcolm to stop doing drugs through a state of guilt because he got him hooked. At some point, Malcolm might question, once the effect of Kilgrave's power wore off, if what he's undone about his addiction was ever a lesson he's really learned. It might turn into unhealthy dependence on the power of Kilgrave if he happens to relapse.

Kaitlyn

Hi I'm new here and i just wanna say that I love your reactions/ videos so much. You ended up getting me into Demon slayer and more. I'm glad that you like Dardevil and Jessica jones a lot and i can't wait for your reactions for the other seasons and the other shows. Congrats on hitting 100K subs on Youtube you deserve it.

Chris

Oof... Seeing how things like the car accident affects you is gutting. I was prepared for the second time but... You undermined my immunity. 😜
