This finale was INSANE!

This entire season it felt like Matt was being pulled apart from every direction possible. His faith. His career. His relationships. His responsibilities. Daredevil. Matt. The man he wants to be vs the man he thinks he's supposed to be. Every single episode felt like another piece of him was being tested and refined. I think that's what made this whole season so amazing for me.Plus there was Frank Castle. The Punisher.Meeting Frank this season was easily one of my favorite parts. Every conversation between him and Matt felt electric. They couldn't be more different, but at the same time they understand each other in a way nobody else can. Some of my favorite scenes in this entire season were just them talking. Arguing. Pushing and testing each other's beliefs. Trying to find that line and whether that line even matters anymore.Watching Frank finally embrace becoming the Punisher was epic. But also scary and heartbreaking at the same time. The more pieces we get about Frank, the more tragic his story becomes. I know there is still so much more to him that we don't know. What really happened? What is Kandahar? How deep does it all go? I'm so ready to jump into his series soon!As for Elektra... Man.I spent most of this season not really knowing how to feel about her. There were moments I loved her. Moments that frustrated me.Moments where I couldn't tell if she was helping or hurting Matt's growth. But then the final conversation between the two of them completely changed my perspective. Matt opening up to her. Opening up to himself. She put it perfectly.. He's been afraid of himself. Hiding from himself. It felt like the perfect simple summary of his entire journey this season.Because that's exactly what Matt has been doing. He's been trying to split himself into pieces.Lawyer Matt. Catholic Matt. Daredevil. As if he had to choose one and sacrifice the others. But through Elektra and through loving her.. He finally understands something that has been staring him in the face this entire time. He doesn't want to stop being Daredevil. Without that part of himself, he doesn't feel complete. I thought it was beautiful that his relationship with Elektra ultimately helped him find that clarity. For all of the chaos she brought. All of the frustration and friction and mess. She helped him ultimately understand who he really is.Who he really wants to be.The speech he gave her after finding out she was Black Sky hit me, too. You are not who other people say you are. You are what you choose to be. He was talking to Elektra in that moment, but he was also finally talking to himself. By the end of this season, it feels like he's finally finding his way back. Not just as Daredevil. Not just as Matt Murdock. But as all of it. The lawyer, the Catholic, the vigilante, the man.He can be all of them.AND THEN... HE TOLD KAREN!I actually screamed lolThe look on Karen's face.. The timing.. The way the season just drops that bomb and immediately ends. SO CRUELBut now I can't wait to watch more seasons with you all! Thank you so much for hanging out through Season 2. It has definitely been one of my favorites so far. Next week I'll be rewatching Deadpool, which should be a fun change of pace after this emotional damage LOLWe'll be spending a little more time in the MCU before eventually jumping back into the Defenders Saga. And I can't wait for that 🔥 See you all there!Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/8_6h1S9XgK8I watched this on Disney+

Oh yeah baby... This is what I've been waiting for! Im also excited for independence day, I hope it drops soon.

C. J. Ramirez

Sad ending I actually started to like elektra at the end

Nande1111

Daredevil season 3 mixed with punisher back to season 3 then Daredevil born again then punisher one last kill. Oh! Also between season 3 there is the defenders, Jessica Jones , Luke cage, they all tied together.

KJ

Great write up as usual. I go back and forth over which season I prefer - 1 or 2. There's arguments for either. Looking forward to this watch along.

Narutoanime16

This season to me really feels like a comic book, so much is happening and every little thing leads into the next whether we realize it or not yet. I could see you liking the Dardevil comics by Chip Zadarsky or the 2000’s Ultimate Spider-Man . The Elecktra & Hand stuff does have answers ya just gotta wait and see ^^

Malcolm Ferguson

I love this season, but my one issue with it is that it kind of feels like it should have been two separate seasons - one focusing on the Punisher and one focusing on Electra and the Hand. The two storylines, while there is SOME crossover between them, just feel a little too disconnected for my taste. Aside from that though, great season!

Fred Aczon

Man I don't care what Charlie Cox says, Matt totally murdered Nobu....again...lol. He didn't know Nobu would survive the fall or that Stick would finish him off, so Matt's kill count is 2 at this point lol. I'm glad you enjoyed the season, I know it'll be a long while before until you get into season 3 but I can't wait for you to dive into it. As it's generally regarded as the Best season. The writing is so tight and it introduces DD's 2nd best antagonist. Can't wait for you to meet him.

Ricky

such a great season!! remember that the punisher show is completely its own entity and not part of the defenders saga, you can watch it anytime :) im not hinting i swear :D

Daniel Morgan

Next show is Luke Cage actually.

Ron B

It's honestly relieving and refreshing to see you truly enjoy the second season! I feel a LOT of people (friends and reactors) that I've seen be suuuper turned off on this one compared to season 1. I love all The Defenders stuff so for me I enjoy all of it! Can't wait for more!

Kaitlyn

I love that the fact you love this season. its really underrated for some reason but i can't wait until you watch the rest of the shows and seasons

Stick did explain why he didn't kill Elektra when she was young; "All these years, I tried to tame her." he said. He thought he could control the enemy's ultimate weapon and use it against them. Also he got somewhat attached to her as seen in the flashbacks even though he'll try to deny it. But once it became apparent that the Hand was gaining the advantage, and Elektra was too 'volatile', he tried to remove their ultimate weapon from the playfield by killing Elektra, thus getting rid of the whole operation of the Hand in New York. Unfortunately they still got her...

Amko Basic

That faical expression at 45:42 was hillarius, I have followed you since the mass effect days and I don't think I've seen that facial expression. The part with Frank entering the shed apart from all the weapons you can see that he focuses on the vest, You can see that the vest has the "teeth" part from his punisher symbol already in a shape but obviously it's not painted yet. Both stick and electra and be really complicated... characters but I still love them, even sticks fortune cookie stuff. I'm really looking forward to continuing the defender saga, what I like is that they set up a lot of stuff that, just like you I really looked forward to see where it went. People sometimes say bring a box of tissues and stuff but since you seem quite mabye like get a puke bucked or something for some of the bloodier moments in the future xD

Michael Enos

i could have laid folding money on Kali flinching hard at Stick getting things shoved in his fingernails. (I flinched too)

Howie

I'm sure your mod or someone will explain this more in detail, but Daredevil season's 1-3 were produced by Netflix. Then when Disney acquired the rights for DD, fans didn't know if Charlie Cox would be brought back. Then surprisingly in Spider-Man: No Way Home, he made that awesome guest appearance (you didn't know who he was at the time) so his Daredevil was suddenly MCU canon. Cox made more appearances in some Marvel shows (will not share which ones in case you don't want to be spoiled) until Disney decided to produce Daredevil: Born Again, seven years after Netflix DD last season. You know what that means? More Kali Daredevil reactions! Woohoo! Btw, Elektra's death in the comics was pretty shocking and huge when it happened. As for the Hand and Stick and how it all relates, I feel like Marvel/Netflix tried to tie too many comic book elements into this season and couldn't tie all the ends.

the first memory I have of the daredevil character is from a game I used to have on the GameCube. he had his Billy clubs and could use them to swing around similar to spider-man and his combat on the ground with the range the wire gave it felt like a marvel version of Kratos to me. plus his design with the red devil look and him&elektra having the ninja vibes reminding me of my other favorite IP at that time Naruto. looking back now it's easy to see why this show and character has always been one of my favorite parts of marvel.

mitchhamilton64

i forgot how insanely packed this season is. whenever i think back on it its usually a thought of "oh yeah! this is the one where they introduce the punisher! and then theres the trial, then matt and karen break up. oh right, karen and matt get together this season.... WAIT! that means its the same season with elektra! and the same season with the hand and stick!" just a wild season. one thing i wish they kept was punisher's origins was that his family died during a random gang war attack, no conspiracy, no bigger picture, just a random act of an everyday violence that killed him and his family. thats why hes so unbending with his rule of killing criminals. it would be like if uncle ben died because of some bigger conspiracy when peter parker is supposed to be some everyday guy who happened to get bit. btw, frank considers himself dead, dying along with his family since they were everything to him. i think matt's instincts with fighting is he tries to find a heart beat but since the hand trained to lower that, it throws him off so he just forgets to look for something as simple as a breath.

Not trying to tell u what to do but iron fist should be on the bottom of the list in terms of defenders saga shows to watch. Iron fist is terrible 😭

Chad Bushue

Kali, this all gets answered, they’re playing a major long game here on the story. The “Micro” stuff and Franks past plays big into the Punisher series…beyond that Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders answers a lot of questions you’ve got. Be patient but it’s worth it Look at Daredevil Born Again as a true Season 4 and Season 5 to Daredevil

Mister Lou

His final line at the end, "I am Daredevil." Reminds me of Tony's final line saying "I am Iron Man." And its perfect casting for both! Because no one else can play Daredevil/Matt and no one else can play Iron Man/Tony. Hmm 🤔 its too bad those two never had a scene together.

Hawgfancolby

Can I just add that I love Clancy Brown as an actor in tv and movies and even in video games (I thought he was great in Detroit) but I can't see him in anything anymore without thinking immediately about Mr. Krabs. Lol

David L

Great review and analysis of the season! I can't wait till you get the rest of these Seasons including DD Born again and Punisher season 1 & 2 along with One Last Kill. Great video, Kali! I can't wait to watch more of your reactions! Have a great day!🙂

Paul Wright

It's the voice of Lex Luthor for me. The GOAT.

Trashy Feel

Born again daredevil is literally season 4 and 5

Trashy Feel

the defenders show is good watch that then jump back at daredevil seoason 3 then born again or js do 1 season of every show besides daredevil. Or watch everything too thats a choice.

Trashy Feel

Amazing review thanks for watching< I can't wait for you to watch DareDevil Season 3 its Amazinngggg.

Paul Wright

Just to clarify, the next shows in the Defenders Saga are as follows: Luke Cage S1, Iron Fist S1, The Defenders miniseries, The Punisher S1, Jessica Jones S2, Luke Cage S2, Iron Fist S2, Daredevil S3, The Punisher S2, Jessica Jones S3. Loved your review of the season. To give you an idea of the timeline of this show, this season takes place before the events of Captain America Civil War, which is why authorities are trying to crack down on vigilantes. I'm really looking forward to your next MCU reaction, whatever it may be.

Dude Longcouch

Mitchell is lowkey the best character in this season lol. Well, except for Punisher. Jon Bernthal is so great as Frank Castle. Like he was born to play that role.

Christian

The release order of The Defenders Saga * Daredevil Season 1 (April 10, 2015) * Jessica Jones Season 1 (November 20, 2015) * Daredevil Season 2 (March 18, 2016) * Luke Cage Season 1 (September 30, 2016) * Iron Fist Season 1 (March 17, 2017) * The Defenders Season 1 (August 18, 2017) * The Punisher Season 1 (November 17, 2017) * Jessica Jones Season 2 (March 8, 2018) * Luke Cage Season 2 (June 22, 2018) * Iron Fist Season 2 (September 7, 2018) * Daredevil Season 3 (October 19, 2018) * The Punisher Season 2 (January 18, 2019) * Jessica Jones Season 3 (June 14, 2019) Don't watch Season 3 of *Daredevil* without watching *The Defenders*, because you won't understand what happened to Matt.

Giancarlo Gasparin

If you thought Matt was an a hole in this season, wait until S3. Easily the best season of the show. Can't wait!

Trey Goldsworthy

We’ll see how the Hand is handled in future stuff since I’m sure you know why.

Trey Goldsworthy

Then of course theres Daredevil Born Again season 1 and 2 and she Punisher One Last Kill special, before season 3 of Born Again comes next year.

eclipse

...and now all the cards have been revealed. Yes Elektra is THE "Black Sky" in this version. (Not in the Comics original story where The Hand has "The Beast"... Electra there has a different storyline... still Matt's love interest and a skilled assassin though) Which is why Stick wanted to kill her. (Most of this story line is explained in Iron Fist S1 and leads directly to The Defenders so please do S1 of Luke Cage and then Iron Fist before stepping into The Defenders). As far as The Punisher goes his series is fantastic and season 1 directly addresses Kandahar but definitely comes after the Defenders and you might finally understand that The Punisher is NOT one of the bad guys. Stick is a warrior in the war that HAS been happening literally for centuries. I will say that watching a second time allows you to have a completely different perspective. Even though Netflix created these series... DD, JJ, LK and IF and The Defenders... they definitely follow the Marvel long play stories... things take time for the heroes to discover themselves... and the best Marvel heroes always have heartbreaking stories. Also One last thing you do realise that you MUST watch defenders before DD S3... or it will not make any sense at all. I just noticesd that @Christian list the full Defenders release order that is correct... and you can ignore the hate on Iron Fist... the story is more important than any individual series... none of them are truly horrible... certainly no Uwe Boll level...

Narutoanime16

Imo Matt didn’t murder nobu the first time like how is Matt supposed to know him just blocking nobu’s attack it would cause a fire ? He can’t read minds 😂he didn’t premeditate causing a fire to happen. Nobu caused his own death, but this 2nd time yea Matt defiantly intended to kill Nobu

Curtis Andrew

Knowing she has to go through around 4 seasons of mid/not so great other shows in order to get to the best season of Daredevil is enough to drive one crazy. We’ll probably get that around the holidays, but at least it’ll be a good present for us.

Fred Aczon

Yea I'm just having fun with the trope of something (or somebody) else killing the villain so that it relieves the hero of taking a life. It's funnier because it happened to the same villain twice.

pinkdino99

Despite being a fan, and Marvel fan, I bounced off mid way through iron Fist. Watched Punisher 1 & 2 independently and think I did JJ s02 and was not impressed (?) I bounced onto HULU which did the excellent Runaways (teen kids whom have supervillains for parents) and Cloak & Dagger which I highly recommend. Avoid The Inhumans like the plague. Extremely bad writing.

pinkdino99

We'll be spending a little more time in the MCU ... does that mean Thunderbolts ?!?!

Paul Wright

If she's following release order, it might be What If? Season 1, Moon Knight, or Ms. Marvel, or Thor 4 or Black Panther 2. Just my thoughts.

Malcolm Ferguson

To me, he's Dr. Cortex from the Crash Bandicoot games. But yeah, his voice is just iconic in general.

Frank Castle

💀 I just can't tell that how much i am curious right now that what'd be your reactions when you're gonna watch The Punisher's season 1 & 2... Oh goodness gracious I can't wait... 👀

SMPUNK

well listed my dude

Diiirk706

I meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeean, if you eventually get to DD BA, *I* wouldnt be opposed to you also ''reacting'' to its Companion Podcast................................. Willing to bet I'm not the only one either........................

Diiirk706

You could just watch a recap vid of he Defenders b4 going straight into OG Daredevil Season 3 tbh.... A LOT of ABC Netflix's Defenders Saga is kinda bloated trash TBH, especially as it went on... Obvious key exceptions ARE; DD : 1, 2, 3 Followed by : JJ : 1, and 2 Punisher : 1 and 2 Luke Cage : 1

Resuri Keiryu

Yes, I agree. I hope you have the patience to watch all of the story. Most reactors skip everything else. You tend to have an open mind/heart when you react. So I’m thinking the other shows will still entertain you. And iron fist gives more info on things that appear in daredevil.

Resuri Keiryu

He’s also Kurgen in Highlander movie. Awesome movie
