I love that every place has a unique vibe with different stories and lessons.

The imprisoned Earthbenders broke my heart. Watching their entire group of people slowly lose all hope because they've been beaten down for so long? It felt tragic. Haru and Katara sharing war stories about their parents made the world feel so much heavier. Everyone has been burned in some form by the Fire Nation. And I love that Katara stepped into the role of reminding the Earthbenders why they should continue to have hope. Continue to fight back! Her speech was incredible! She's quickly becoming the emotional backbone of this group & I love her for it.And then there was King Bumi 😭 I loved everything about that episode & the mystery behind it all!Six episodes in and I'm already understanding why so many people hold this series up so high! It's so much fun and sometimes absolutely unhinged, but underneath it is constantly asking deeper questions about hope, balance, and what it means to stay true to yourself and what you believe in.I already can't wait until next week!Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/fwXRgI3cvz4I watched this on Netflix

rubberkidney

I haven't even watched it yet, and I can't even wait for next week!

Hey Kali! The Sync-Along YouTube video says "Video unavailable - This video is private". Sorry to be a bother. 😅

kaliwali

you're not a bother at all! thank you for letting me know. I accidentally had it set to private 😂 should be good to go now!

Onno Smits

Yes, works now. Thanks! Super-fast support :P

So when it comes to Avatar. The "Previously on Avatar" segments tend to spoil the theme or what's going to happen or an appearance/return of characters in the episode. I recommend skipping them. Up to you. Also especially getting into future episodes, excited people will be commenting stuff like "Can't wait for you to see whatever/whoever/whenever" and that's sorta spoiling it.

Onno Smits

Great reaction! I forgot how funny this show was. Episode 6 dealt with some pretty heavy subject matter, for a "kids show"!

AlienBrain

Sokka's character growth makes him one of the best "comic relief" characters in fiction. It's also one of the many reasons I can't stand the live action series. They remove all the character growth from basically every character. Sorry to be a downer but that's my opinion. Unlike the One Piece LA it doesn't feel like it was made by fans, it feels like it was made by people who thought they needed to 'fix' the original story. I would avoid it and stick to the original if I were you.

mitchhamilton64

theres some where itll show a character who hasnt been shown for like a season or 2 and it makes you just go "oh, obviously theyre showing us them again because theyre gonna show up again." i recommend skipping them as well

ConsistentlyStupid

This show is so good at being able to go from light-hearted episodes like King of Omashu, into episodes with much darker themes like Imprisoned. I'm still surprised that the writers got Nickelodean to allow them to feature things like genocide with the Airbenders, and the horrors of war with POWs/work camps.

PG Modehouse

Bumi's name comes from the goddess Bhumi Devi from Hindu mythology, Bhumi meaning Earth in Sanskrit.

DontBmad

season 2 is where this show really gets good IMO.. and is a lot less kidish (at least for a kids show lol)

rubberkidney

people are literally manic about spoilers in this modern era. It's kind of gross. When you are crying about an "previously on" segment which was 10,000,000,000% a part of the show when it originally aired, you have lost the plot.

Malcolm Ferguson

Just because something was meant to be part of the show doesn't automatically make it good.

LeRezwarrior

@rubberkidney I mean ultimately is up to her. It was just a suggestion. Calm down a tad.

mitchhamilton64

@rubberkidney technically, the "previously on" wasnt a part of the show when it was originally airing until like halfway into season 2. i know because i own the original dvd box set and was watching it as it was airing, for the most part.

mitchhamilton64

very slowly the show is introducing the more mature elements mixed in with hte lightheartedness which i really like. we have the result of the war taking its toll on its proud natives like the earth kingdom villagers who are imprisoned for their skills and on top of that we have "THAT LEMUR! HES EARTH BENDING!" cracks me every time. we have sokka's sexism being resolved with him being humble and apologetic to suki, and i love how they dont say like "no! she is a great warrior and only cares about that!" but also show that she is a woman, a person with feelings still. the two can coexist. just, i love this show and i dont think i can give it enough praise.

BattleMaster

That's one part I love about Avatar, the Last Airbender. It's that despite being a kids show, the themes are very mature. Tyranny, war, oppression, politics, even genocide.

Vry36

The first appearance of the cabbage vendor.

Chris Truex

Yeah, there one ep in particular that really deflates a reveal because of "Last Time On"

Sam Nichols

This was my first time realizing the warden of the prison camp was voiced by George Takei. Pretty poignant that the character was voiced by someone who grew up in a Japanese-American prison camp in WWII (in Arkansas).

Dude Longcouch

For some reason I didn't realize until this watch today, there's a darker aspect to the "King of Omashu" episode. Aang has to disguise himself as he's wandering the city, and it's played for laughs with the mustache thing, but also, he's still wearing traditional Air Nomad clothes inside the city. He doesn't have to worry about anyone recognizing him from his clothes because the Air Nomad has been gone for 100 years, which is long enough for nobody to recognize Air Nomad clothing anymore :(

Dude Longcouch

Katara: So remember your courage, Earthbenders! LET US FIGHT FOR OUR FREEDOM! The Coughing Guy: *cough cough* :p

Dude Longcouch

By the way, the voice actor of the Warden was legendary actor George Takei. I always thought it was interesting that he agreed to voice the Warden of a prison labor camp, given his real life experiences with US WW2 internment camps. Though, when you consider that this show has probably done more to educate kids about the dangers of fascism than most school curriculums, I suppose it makes sense in that regard.

SingleMaltWhiskey

It'll have spoilers so you'll want to wait till you are done the entire show, but Avatar In Concert is something I would highly recommend. I have a feeling you would love it.

Binho

I think Katara is a bit underrated. Most people have someone else as their favorites, but she is my favorite. She is a very strong woman and is ready to fight for anyone that needs her help.

NeonThunder

My least favorite part of episode 4 was the fact that Suki along with the rest of the kyoshi warrioirs were willing to kill innocent children without even giving them a chance to defend themselves. The only reason why they're alive is because Aang happened to be the avatar.

mitchhamilton64

tbf, like the chief said, the island had stayed out of the war this entire time and would probably prefer it to stay that way in order to protect their own children. if that means 3 random people they dont know has to die for it, so be it.

The benders seem to live longer
