This show just keeps surprising me.These episodes had me laughing one minute and sitting with my heart in my throat the next. The bus jacking arc was WAY more intense than I expected it to be after that cliffhanger last week. The fake bomb necklaces for the kids. The REAL bomb. The poor kids and their thoughts while being held hostage. Seeing Anya choose to be brave despite being absolutely terrified was one of my favorite moments for her. She just kept putting herself in the scariest situations to try and save everyone. It was so honorable! She's still just a little kid.. And I think sometimes I really forget that because she always makes me laugh. And DAMIEN. Every episode makes me like him more. The way he steps up for Anya, protected others, and refused to completely fall apart was so admirable. He's just a child carrying around so much family pressure. But underneath he's such a genuinely good guy. And every interaction between him and Anya warms my heart. Even the name calling LOL.The Red Circus backstory ended up being so much sadder than I expected, too. They introduced this group as a terrifying terrorist organization, but the more their story came out the more my heart ached. Spy x Family is so good at reminding us that war, politics, and violence leave behind broken people on every side. Almost nobody in this world feels completely evil or completely good. And that's the point. I love that this series constantly lives in the gray areas.BUT CAN WE ALSO TALK ABOUT DAMIEN'S MOM???I have so many questions...The way her thoughts appeared, that crazy look in her eyes... again. My head cannon right now is that the blue thoughts were her real ones and the red distorted thoughts were somehow... altered? Controlled? Programmed? Maybe I'm reaching... But the font immediately caught my attention. It reminded me of how Bond's visualizations look before he's about to see the future. How Anya's mind twinkles and tunes into thoughts like a frequency. The visual choice just felt WAY too intentional for me to ignore...Now I'm completely fascinated by her. I need answers lol.I'm so sad that we're wrapping up our time in the LAST BIT of Spy x Family next week!I'll be joining you all in the agonizing wait for more Forgers in my life 🤍This show quickly became my comfort watch every week & I'm not ready to say goodbye!Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿WANT TO WATCH IN DUB?SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/0_0wJBDnXSoI watched this on Crunchyroll

I guess Ostania might be a bilingual country? It seems like Germany but the writing is English. I guess it doesn't really matter though since Ostania is fictional in any case!

Adampasriche

If I recall correctly, in the official guide, it was explained that while Ostania is heavily inspired by Germany, it also draws inspiration from the UK (especially aesthetic-wise), so that would explain why ostanian is represented as "English" I think!

I came across Kalkwali through Demon Slayer and Frieren, but I'd already seen those. Spy x Family was the first show I was actually experiencing for the first time alongside them. After watching the first half of Season 1 along with the channel, I got so hooked that I binged all the remaining episodes and seasons over one weekend. And after binging all three seasons, I jumped straight into the manga to keep reading. I can really see how the story is getting darker and deeper as it goes on. For instance, we had that heavy scene with the Handler talking about war in Season 1, followed by the funny yet dark Cruise Adventure Arc in Season 2. But this latest arc is focusing even more on the actual impact of war and political conflict. I can't wait for their wrap-up next week!

Just went back to when Yor met Melinda, and I think it confirms my suspicions, that when Damians father is mentioned, it causes her to switch from her normal self. If I had to guess I would say it was some kind of safeguarding measure, she's be psychicly altered so that when questioned about him she knows nothing / will refuse to answer. We know that Anya and Bond were experimented on, by Donnovans government, or perhaps by people Donnovan knows, it feels like it had to have been state sanctioned given how up in everyone's business the ostanian govt are. It seems more likely the more I consider it, that he is aware of, or possesses such powers.

BattleMaster

Yeah, they used English to keep the Western aesthetic and feel since that's where its heavily inspired by. Why English and not another Latin language? My guess is most likely because English is widely taught in Japan.

anya crying after saying she was fine, it was like it all hit her of what she had been through. even thought she knew the bomb was fake, that panic she had when it was first attached was real. she was so brave, and staying on the bus because she knew it was making the guys resolve weaker. idk what other shows youve watched where its an anime and they used english text but where spy family takes place, like a lot of anime, its setting is based on a western setting, like the uk, so the settings language is most likely english, theyre just speaking japanese. its like in the tarzan cartoon how the apes speak perfect english because thats the interpretation for the audience but theyre actually speaking ape, if that makes sense. NEXT WEEK! the spy family journey comes to an end!

Yes! Damien's mom! I'm intrigued by her as well! There is something about her that is sinister. I hope we find out more about her in future episodes!

Hey Kali i was just wondering do you drink from giant mugs or are they normal size that look huge compared to you

Becky being ride or die for Anya is my favorite.

Great reactions!! I haven’t read the manga, so this is just a theory, but maybe Melinda really does love Damian and those colder thoughts are her trying to convince herself to keep her distance, especially when his father is brought up. Almost like how we tell ourselves, "I can do this," until we start believing it.

Ben

My personal interpretation has always been that Ostania and Westalis are East and West Germany during the Cold War

God the Billy Squire backstory makes me bawl my eyes out every time 😭😭😭

I would want Henry and Martha on my team. They are rock solid. I cannot WAIT for their backstories to be animated. When I read it, I knew it was one of those moments I wished I could forget, just to experience it for the first time over again. Yuri’s oedipus complex is hard enough, now we get to see that he also would be just fine letting a bunch of kids die, and actually happy about it if Anya were murdered… except that he might not get a head pat from Yor… which would be the end of his world. Yuri is a beloved character in the fandom and I just can’t wrap my head around why. To me he is the only thing I dislike about the entire series. He is a horrible person even without the parasexual codependency, and just written off as comedic relief. His scenes have given us brief insight into the SSS, but otherwise he is completely irrelevant to the plot. His importance to Yor could be replaced by a family pet, and the SSS intel could easily be derived from Loid spying more.

My theory about what's going on with Damien's mom is that it's some sort of coping mechanism to convince herself that she doesn't care about him. Either she's scared of her husband and what he would do if he knew she had those feelings, or she's scared about his political opponents using her & Damien against him.

For me, Melinda hates Desmond so whenever he is brought up, she has negative thoughts. When she initially picked up Damian, she was loving in her thoughts and actions but as soon as Damian brings up his father, the switch flips immediately. So she has a mixed bag of emotions toward her son. When Anya said Melinda was like Unkie, she meant at that moment, Melinda had the same lovingly obsessive thoughts about Desmond as Yuri has about Yor.

i was laughing non stop when i first watched episode 9 😭 damian and anya fighting never fails to crack me up (i also recall spitting out my water laughing when damian had the fake bomb put on and anya's just like "we match :D")

A comment before I watch: I would think once Yor finds out.... it's over for Red Circus.....terminated.

Ray

I know they can't just have Yor saving the day (Anya and her schoolmates) all the time but at least provide an alternative scene where Yor finds out and handles it. It could be post credit.
