AMAZE AMAZE AMAZEI'M SO GLAD I FINALLY WATCHED THIS!!!

This movie was beautiful in every way. It made me feel so incredibly small, ponder the 'what if's' way too hard, and gave me hope that maybe one day space exploration like this could be possible for us. But... maybe without astrophage eating away at solar systems lol.It was one of those stories that reminded me how vast the universe really is.But it didn't make it feel all dark and scary and lonely.Instead it felt.. surprisingly comforting.Which I absolutely LOVED.Every new discovery had me listening harder, leaning closer, wanting to know more. The science never felt like it was trying to prove how smart it was either. It felt like an invitation for us to be a part of the process. Every problem was a puzzle. Every solution felt earned. I love stories that make intelligence feel exciting instead of intimidating, and this movie was that. And Rocky... 🥹I wasn't prepared for this hilariously sweet alien. His funny phrases were EVERYTHING. His desire to stay close by no matter what..Rocky completely stole my heart.I also have to give Ryan Gosling so much praise because WOW. He absolutely carried this movie. He made complicated science feel natural. Loneliness feel believable. Every single emotion GENUINE. He was unapologetically himself from beginning to end. And whoever was in charge of his costume and overall character design deserves a standing ovation.Watching two beings from completely different worlds slowly learn each other's language, habits, way of thinking.. that was the real magic of this movie for me. The both chose to understand someone completely different from themselves and work together to save their worlds. That feels so simple.. but this movie made it feel like the most beautiful and rewarding part of the whole journey. And you guys know me and music. An amaze soundtrack = An amaze movieI'll be saving this one to my spotify playlist for sure ✨This movie reminded me why I love science fiction so much in the first place. The best sci-fi has never really been about spaceships and beep boops. It's about people. Curiosity. Sacrifice. Hope. Bravery. It's about believing that even when the odds seem impossible...Sometimes all you need is one Hail Mary.Words of great encouragement 🤍Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/NRtqiz08PtwI watched this on Amazon Prime

AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE!!👎👎👎

*JAZZ HANDS*

Edgar Gonzalez

I saw this movie like 3 weeks ago. ✌️

Howie

Yesss!! My favorite movie of 2026 so far and one of the best book adaptations ever. Thanks for the great writeup! I don't think you get enough credit for them. Watching your reaction during my lunch break. WFH has it's benefits! 🤜🏻🤛🏻 The best jump-scare ever at 50:22!! 🤣 my favorite scene is when Stratt sings Sign of the Times. Such a touching moment between Grace and Stratt.

Richard

Kali I love it so much when you thrown in one-offs of contemporary stuff so you can "stay current" with us!! Saw this in the theater and I didn't cry quite as much as my wife did but it was sooo emotional and I read the book right after based on my son-in-law's suggestion. Such a beautiful beautiful story and I really appreciate you adding it to the watchlist. Ryan Gosling was in Barbie, which I think you've seen? Anyway, AMAZE write-up of course and you summarized everything we should take away from this movie. The humor was indeed great and nice to see you laughing so much. 😂

Robert da Spruce

Been waiting all week for this one! Can’t wait to see your reaction Kali! Have an amaze weekend! 😊

Łukasz Jarczewski

You should watch everything with Gosling! Blade Runner 2049, Drive, Barbie, and The Fall Guy are just a few examples. Ryan is a Hollywood national treasure.

The Dingo

I hope you read the book too, as good as the movie is the book is even better! The book is authored by the same man who wrote The Martian

TheJoeKerr

If you have the time I highly recommend the audiobook. It is narrated and voiced really well and goes into much more depth.

Kal

"Ramen with mustard Eeeewww! Wait, is that good?" Please Kali, never change.

SEAN ƴü KAY

No time code for us? Hmm...your time code has the ability to add rewatches pauses bathroom breaks sync issues the ability to rewind or fast forward....it is the syncing ability and accuracy...and this is a big big movie to leave that out on...I recommend you re-upload with the timecode...or start doing an upload with it and without even tho I know that takes time...I am telling you syncing ability is way better...and your timecode and word clock syncs have been spot on in the past. Please dont take that away. I am disappointed I will be out of sync with you when I have to pause. This means it is a 100%cannot pause start to finish play through ONLY. I'll get over it. Please add it to guardians v 3 and any other films going forward. Please please trust me on this...and trust this is all said with love...

first time seeing this, ive never been a huge sci-fi watcher or enjoyer but ive been pretty excited about this. the editing in the first 20 minutes or so really threw me off, every cut was really jarring, maybe that was just me. im sure it was intentional. The first "holy shit this is super cool" moment for me is 21:05 when hes looking, at the glyphs of human evolution, he bends down to match the pose of the ape thing on the bottom, then it cuts back to the glyph and back to him standing up straight like the man on the top of the evolution staircase. foreshadowing? is this guy gonna be the one to evolve past human?

Armchair Rizzard

Its my favorite sci fi movie for a reason. Also I second what "The Dingo" says above about how great the Audio Book is.

Christopher Larimer

Work today is going to feel like an eternity to get through. Can't wait to get some food on the way home and watch.

Marcel S

Great great movie. When I first saw the movie, I immediately ordered the "Ah, the element of surprise" T-shirt. so good :)

Phil Stubblefield

Kali, now that you've seen this, do you think you could cosplay Rocky? 😄

Nick Scholz

This movie shows the best way on how to deal with first contact.

Richard

My man, she's having a hard enough day as it is without this. Another copyright strike. No I'm not a "mod" but geeesh have a heart.

Kiera

Those plaques are similar in design to the ones we have on the Pioneer probes. We lost contact with Pioneer 10 in 2003 and it's sister probe, Pioneer 11, in 1995. The Voyager probes (still in contact with them!) have a similar thing, phonograph records rather than simple plaques, that hold even more data about Earth. Grace, being a scientist, would know immediately (even before his memories kick in) that this vessel was never meant to return home due to the presence of those plaques. That's what they were there for, some environmental story telling!

Eric Stewart

Great reaction. Enjoyed rewarching this with you. I am recovering from surgery and watched La La Land this morning. As the end credits began rolling, my alert popped up that this video was available to watch. So, I think I just had close to 5 hours laughing and crying with Ryan Gossling... lmao...

ITMacPro

My favorite movies of Ryan Gossling that you should check out at some point are "Half Nelson" & "Lars & The Real Girl. "

James Park

Serious question Kali are your mugs you drink from really big or are just normal size that look huge compared to you

Onno Smits

Ryan Gosling is just amazing. If I can recommend two other movies of his you'd enjoy it'd be The Fall Guy (2024) and Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011). Both are comedies, with some RomCom elements. I also really like La La Land (2016) but that's because I'm a sucker for musicals, but I don't believe those are really your thing? Goes to show how versatile of an actor Gosling is though. He got nominated for an Oscar for that movie, with him singing and dancing. Heck of a performer!

Onno Smits

I imagine if you're 1 liter deep into a Vodka-bag, anything would taste reasonable. 😅

Steve Mercier

Fucking awesome movie. Statement.

James Park

I really think you'd like Passengers it's a must watch to add to your list

KamikazeCDN

That jump scare at around the 50 minute mark almost took you out...apologies for laughing so much at it lol. I absolutely love this movie. It has so much of what I enjoy. Love sci-fi, even better with a dash a comedy. Love Ryan Gosling. Love the music. Just everything about this movie is so good. I have seen SO many reactions to it at this point so I'm really glad you decided to toss it in here. I was quoting it for awhile, which is fine when others have seen it but when they haven't it gets pretty awkward when you tell them to "fist my bump". Ryan Gosling was the perfect casting for this role. He plays the anxious, unsure, goofy, nerdy, smart guy so very well. James Ortiz and his team of puppeteers were also fantastic playing Rocky, they made him/them so alive and real. I beg you to add more Ryan Gosling movies into the mix once the summer vibes are finished. He has so many good movies, plenty that have been suggested loads I'm sure. Drive (2011), Blade Runner 2049 (which means you'd need to watch Blade Runner first), A Place Beyond the Pines (2012)...so on and so on.

Slow Shadow

"Hey honey, how was school today?" oh great our new teacher is the alien who saved our planet 😆

mahlibu91

👎👎👎👎❤️

David Trumble

This was definitely the reaction I've been holding my breath for since it landed on streaming, and it did not disappoint. Also, can't have too many extra reasons to finally watch and react to the Rocky movies!

kaliwali

Oh yeah! Barbie! That movie was kinda a miss for me so I guess I blanked it outta my mind bahaha. But I absolutely LOVED this one

kaliwali

I was so close to choking on my spit from that jumpscare and it led to some interesting noises LOL I definitely need to watch more Ryan Gosling omg! He's a great actor!

kaliwali

I saw that pop up on Netflix when I was booting up Greys Anatomy one night!! I want to watch it sometime

kaliwali

Oh he's in La La Land!? I kept getting many recommendations for that one. I'll have to bump it up on my list now for sure!

kaliwali

I wish you a speedy recovery!

kaliwali

LOL ummmm how in the world!?

kaliwali

I loved that tshirt!!! The costume designer in this one deserves an award for real

kaliwali

Ah woah I love that callback! I didn't even put that together.. 'Is this guy gonna be the one to evolve past human?' woaaah

kaliwali

But you can see the entire movie very faintly! It shouldn't be an issue, right?

Steve Mercier

They can't use the astrophage going to Tau-Ceti-E (or Adrian, which is the name of Rocky's girlfriend--and later wife--from the Rocky movies) as fuel because this would require massive breeder farms and incubation tanks to do so--equipment they do not have on either of their ships. The astrophage they use as fuel has been enriched and grown specificially to hold and be able to safely expel the amount of energy required to power the Hail Mary. Think of it as the difference between crude oil (petroleum) and gasoline--the stuff going to Tau-Ceti-E is petroleum, and the Hail Mary needs gasoline.

Luii

I remember seeing Petrova Line scene in IMAX on the day of release. It was my first time and I have never felt such emotion flow into me that one moment. The music and the cinematography for this movie were truly something that would be hard to forget.

Walker

Her sense of humor is the absolute best! . She must have her friends in stitches after a few drinks. Even when she doesn’t say much but watches something funny her laughter is really contagious. When she watched Home Alone I couldn’t stop laughing from her just losing it. Some of her quotes off the top of my head “ 300 is Shakespeare with protein powder”. “Holy hand grenade” as priest pulls a gun out of a bible_V for Vendetta “Buns of Sparta” -Seeing Gerard Butler naked. “Wooooow”. Seeing Steve Rogers coming out of machine; buff, oiled up and much taller “ I found my people!” After observing hobbits love of food, parties and watching them try to see above the bar, minus the hairy feet I’m guessing, 😂

Walker

Hobbit sized hands with a Goliath sense of humor..and 💖.

Phil Stubblefield

You're small and flexible... figure it out! 😂

James Park

You'll love it i stake my limited reputation on it

Mister Lou

Love this movie! It is Full Good! Ryan is perfect for this roll. Nice Guys was fun too, but i think you might enjoy A Place Beyond the Pines (2012). It's got a stacked cast and where he met his wife Eva Mendes.

Black_TYGR

Amaze Kali! 🤍💯🥰

Paul Ark

I watched this movie numerous times and never caught on to the fact that Grace clicked his teeth 4 times when asked what is 2+2. You are insanely observant!

SgtOddity

Amazing reaction. This was my first time watching this film too! WOW. Im going to recomend this film to everyone I know until they watch it or they block me. On a side note, if we are going on a Sci-Fi binge then is "The Expanse" in the cards one day? My favourite Sci-Fi of all time!

Josh Karpoff

AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE. This movie has ***ALL*** THE FEELS. I saw this in the cinema and the whole audience was brought to tears multiple times. Andy Weir wrote the book, which was great in its own way, but the screenplay was written by Drew Goddard, who created the "Daredevil" MCU TV series you've been enjoying so much. He also wrote the screenplay for "The Martian" among his work on many other projects. This film was directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who together, directed "The LEGO Movie" among other films. They were the original directors for "SOLO: A Star Wars Story" but they dropped out part way through production over fundamental disagreements with Disney and Kathleen Kennedy at Lucasfilm. In addition to Ryan Gosling's spectacular performance, I think that folks need to recognize what an amazing job lead Rocky puppeteer/ Rocky's voice actor did, along with the larger team of assistant puppeteers. That so much of Rocky was practical is one of the things that I think really kept alive the audience immersion in the story, without distractions caused by janky CGI. In many interviews Gosling was quick to point out that it was so crucial to his performance to have someone to actually act off of for this role and Ortiz did a phenomenal job.

Danny

I read an interview with Ryan Gosling about how in some parts where he had to act with Rocky he actually had an earpiece with his daughters talking to him. So when he looked like he was charmed or amused by Rocky (or maybe a little annoyed) it was actually his kids talking to him haha

Giancarlo Gasparin

Gosling is great in all his movies. From The Notebook to The Big Short, I gotta give his work a thumbs up, baby! 👎🏼

Paul Walker

I'm quite surprised you haven't seen The Notebook. I think it would be a great reaction video for your channel.

rubberkidney

Fear just chokes you out, Kali. Ooh, we got a giggle overload in this one. I'm liking it. You may not know this, but the movie Rocky was made for you. They didn't know it at the time either, but it's true. It's literally custom-made for you, kaliwali. Your cat woke up at the exact same time Rocky did. It was pretty cute.

Joe

You wondered what we would do if this happened. I would do the same thing they did, send Ryan Gosling to space to fix it. I don't care he is an actor, after this movie, I trust him to save us all. Since you liked him in this, I would recommend Lars and the Real Girl. A couple fun facts: The puppeteer voiced rocky on set and they were going to hire a voice actor to be the actual on screen voice, but they liked it so much he became the final voice of Rocky. Also Stratt singing was not originally in the script, but Ryan Gosling heard the actor singing between takes and suggested the scene for the movie. I loved that scene and it added so much to her character.

MB

As a fun note, when Yao speaks to Stratt in Chinese (when he meets Grace), he basically says, “Why is he speaking to us like small children?”. Stratt answers, “Not a problem, you get used to it.”

Al Paka

That is my absolute favorite movie of 2026 so far. It's great that you enjoyed it. As soon as I have time, I'll enjoy your reaction. :3

roid

If you're into sci-fi, you should definitely check out Contact. It came out almost 30 years ago, but it's still one of the best sci-fi movies ever made and hasn't aged a bit. It's directed by Robert Zemeckis, stars Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey, and the music is by Alan Silvestri. And don't worry—you won't need a box of tissues for this one. 😄

Kal

They also gave earpieces to Rocky's puppeteers and told them how to do off kilter reactions like "no matter what Ryan says, keep playing with the measuring tape" and since there was a lot of ad lib it made for truly hilarious and organic scenes.

KeelKrazies

La la land is one of my favorite films of all time

Robert da Spruce

Great reaction Kali! Except maybe that weird sound you made when you got jump scared 😉 But we won’t talk about ever again 😊 What I really love about the movies based on Andy Weir’s books is the humor The science is on such a grand scale, it can be a little overwhelming. Not just for the characters. But the viewers as well The humor brings everything back down to a human level. Making it much more relatable. Because that’s the way many of us cope in such high stake situations And Rocky! Luv that guy! Oh, and the reason naming the planet Adrian is significant is because in the Rocky films, his wife is named Adrian You should definitely check out the Rocky movies. I think you would really enjoy them Glad you liked the film! I enjoyed your reaction Kali!

Amko Basic

I've been meaning to watch this movie for quite a while, I have seen some interviews with ryan and I think the director but didn't know much about it except it was a science fiction movie. I agree this movie was indeed amazing, it has for sure made its way to my top 10 list. It had a perfect amount of everything, humor, drama mystery and it kept revealing things at a good pace.

Cameron

Ryan has recently become one of my favorite actors. He's so damn charming, he makes any character he plays likable.

fireforeffect

People are concerned with Ryan being able to pull off Ghost Rider in his upcoming portrayal, but I think the doubters just haven't seen enough movies with Ryan in them. He has incredible range from being hilarious in "The Nice Guys" to making us all cry in "Project Hail Mary" and "A Place Beyond the Pines". I think he is going to prove he can play a stoic badass if he hasent already in movies like "The Gray Man"

Walker

Kali “I wonder if my kids will ever do a spacewalk?” Ryan looks straight into Kali’s eyes “No!”.👀 That was the craziest 4th wall break I’ve ever seen!

josh perez

My first time watching was awesome watching with you for first time instead of just seeing you react ,loved this movie

Walker

It was kind of a cough, choke, squeak. 🥺 Your cats use to launch into the air when you had a jump scare. They have become desensitized. They don’t even wake half the time now. From 🙀 to zzz😽zzz

Holy Arathi

I know you have a busy life... kids, YouTube channel, Patreon, husbando and all that, but... if you can find time read the book this movie is based off of. It's Andy Weirs best book, debatably, I think.

kaliwali

i'd love to check out The Expanse someday! so many recommends for that one after my love for sci-fi began ✨

soulspawn

"Whoomp! There it is." 😅

Dude Longcouch

Watching this for the first time, obviously it's amazing, but I'm very curious how an alien race like Rocky's could become advanced enough for interstellar travel without knowing anything about radiation or relativity 🤔

Dude Longcouch

Oh by the way, the guy you said looked familiar was Ken Leung... I'm actually not sure where you recognized him from, maybe Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, or perhaps X-Men: The Last Stand? But I know him primarily from his great role in LOST, a show I desperately hope you will react to some day. If you've ever wanted to watch a mystery with us and keep a journal of notes to follow along with, that would be the show to do it. You could even have a segment where you review your notes with us and discuss your ideas and theories after each episode, that would be so much fun!

John Courtright

Awesome reaction Kali! I enjoyed every minute, re-watching this film with you. Ryan Gosling was incredible! The range of emotions! Just brilliant! And Rocky was AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE!! I highly recommend the audio book narrated by Ray Porter. It won the prestigious Audiobook of the Year award at the 2022 Audie Awards (the industry's highest honor).

tachi.kintrelo

Kali glad you're open minded enough to ask that question! I eat yakisoba with hot mustard and it's delicious!

soulspawn

I really liked that they went with animatronics for Rocky because it's real!

rian

i saw this 5 times in the theater 2nd place to puss in boots: the last wish, i saw that mf like 13 times 😅😅😂 but this a good movie, i really enjoyed the books :p

Chris

Omg you have to do La La Land. It's incredible. It has so much emotion and such a phenomenal ending. Get your tissues ready.

Paul Walker

Kali I know it's a week later and you probably won't see this... but as a fellow music lover and having only seen Project Hail Mary & The Nice Guys so you'll have no context please watch this short 4:30 second musical performance https://youtu.be/fo6T5BwxFh0?si=Yq5KwvY9Hg5HCMO_

SidekickSteph

Sorry I’m late, I’m still a newbie here 😊 one of my favorite movies ever!
