Okay... Now we're really getting into it 👀
This season seems to be all about who we become because of the world around us..And who we choose to become despite it.Episode 5 was such an interesting continuation of what Avatar keeps showing us about history. Kyoshi admits that yeah, Chin died because of her actions.. But the story that's been passed down isn't the whole truth. It immediately brought me back to the same headspace as The Great Divide back in Book One. How stories change slowly over time depending on who's telling them. History isn't always a perfect record of what happened. Sometimes it's just the version that ended up surviving. And then.. TOPH 🪨I already love her.She is VERY different from what I expected Aang's earthbending master/teacher to be and I think that's what makes her work. She's tiny, blind, stubborn, sarcastic as all heck, but unbelievably powerful. Watching her navigate the world around her with her earthbending knowledge is insane and very interesting to watch. My mind immediately jumped to Matt Murdock lol.One of the things I'm really loving about this show is how different each element feels.Airbending is movement. Avoidance. Finding another path. But Earthbending is basically saying no. Stand here. Be strong, face it.I think Toph will be an amazing teacher for Aang going forward! Then episode 7.. Zuko alone.Probably my favorite episode of this second book so far.Zuko has always been really interesting to me. And we finally got a huge lore drop on why he is the way he is on a much deeper level. Seeing him as a child? His relationship with his mom, Azula, Iroh and his father? So many pieces of him fell into place for me.Especially his mother. There was so much softness in Zuko as a child. So much that never fully disappeared even as he's grown.'No matter how things may seem to change, never forget who you are.'I think that's what makes Zuko so heartbreaking. He keeps chasing after his father's approval like it's the one thing that will finally make him whole. But we're seeing how the people who truly loved him never needed him to prove anything, ever. His mother loved him. Iroh loves him. But for some reason those are the people he's been pushing away while he continues chasing the person who hurt him the most. How human is that?I think my favorite part of these four episodes was seeing all of the realtionships we've seen so far collide. Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko, Iroh. Everyone is carrying something heavy. Everyone is exhausted. But suddenly they're all standing in the same place with Azula at the center of it.I hope Iroh is okay..I can't imagine this show without him and his wisdom over a cup of Jasmine tea.I don't know where Book Two is taking everyone yet. But I can already feel this story becoming so much more complicated than Book One. The lines between 'good' and 'bad' feel less clean. Aang is learning that sometimes you have to stand your ground.Toph is learning what freedom actually feels like. What love actually is.And Zuko? I think Zuko is slowly being forced to see who he is underneath all the titles he so proudly announces. When everything you've been taught about who you are begins to crack, who do you choose to become?THIS SEASON IS SO GOOD SO FARCan't wait for more next week!
