I FINISHED AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER 😭☁️

This has been such a beautiful journey, guys... And the finale was everything I hoped it would be and SO MUCH MORE. I genuinely don't even know how to put all of my feelings into words after watching this. I'm happy, I'm emotional, I'm proud of all of these characters, and I'm so sad that it's over 🥹Watching this juorney come full circle was so satisfying and fulfilling. I loved that even with the WHOLE world telling him what he needed to do, he still stayed true to who he was and found his OWN way. It felt so perfectly Aang. And ZUKO. His character quickly became one of my favorites in this series, easily. He came so far, especially after everything with Iroh.. And It makes my heart so happy to see who he became in his own way too. And the rest of the gang? Ugh. I'm going to miss being randomly annoying but also respecting the heck out of Katara lol. I'm going to miss Sokka's humor and rizz. I'm going to miss Toph and her roasting everyone up daily. And I'm running to Amazon to buy an Appa plushy immediately after I'm done writing this LOLThere is so much heart in this show and I think what I love most is that Avatar never lost sight of that. Even during the biggest battles, it was always about the people, their choices, and the hope that things can be better. And I just LOVED that about it.THANK YOU to everyone who joined me on this Avatar adventure. Whether you've been here since episodes one or joined in along the way, thank you so much for watching with me on Patreon! Getting to experience this for the first time with all of you and read your amazing comments afterward made it that much more amazing. I know many of you have loved this show for years and now I completely understand why!As for what's next, I'm not done with Avatar content!I'll be watching the newer animated Avatar movie in a few weeks once I get through spooky seasonAnd The Legend of Korra is absolutely on my list. I'm thinking spring, but it could be earlier!THANK YOU FOR JOINING ME 🤍 yip yip!SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/U1_MWMBOwykI watched this on Netflix

Time to cozy up! I really hope you reconsider and watch Korra sooner! The new series is starting tomorrow and it would be nice to do a rewatch at the same time! <3

brandondavillan

Its finally here I've been excited to watch this all day today!!

Ventena

I’m very excited to watch this finale! I hope you don’t end up waiting too long to watch the Avatar Aang movie, like you’re planning to do with Korra. I think it might be a good way to end off the seires for now: even if u end up waiting a week or two to watch it. That being said, me personally, I'm hoping for it sooner rather than later

Trevor Go

You should watch The Last Airbender (2010); it's worthy of a reaction.

Kase

Yes! We are finally to the end. I have been waiting for this one. 😄 Also, since you are putting Korra on hold so you don’t get burnt out from the universe, and you have been digging deep into Anime, let me recommend some other Western animated shows, because there are lots of great ones! I don’t expect you to react to any of them, just thought I’d throw em out. 😅 Invincible — One of those shows that makes you realize how much better superhero stories can be when the writers aren’t afraid to take risks! Arcane — You don’t need to know anything about League of Legends to appreciate it! The writing is genuinely some of the best you’ll find in any show, animated or not. Vox Machina — It’s based on a real D&D campaign played by professional voice actors who voice their own characters in the show. It’s hilarious, violent, full of amazing fantasy action, and surprisingly good at getting you emotionally invested. Pantheon — It’s honestly one of the most underrated sci-fi shows out there, and the more you watch, the more insane you realize the story actually is.

Dude Longcouch

I can't believe it's over already T_T It feels like yesterday I was here in the comments begging you to watch it. But, in a way, part of what make this show special is the brevity. There's an incredibly low rate of "not good" content, and almost zero filler. They had a plan with a beginning, middle, and end, and they stuck to it. I think it's a better show for that, and probably the GOAT of all animated shows. Certainly in the children's category, at least. But the good news is... it's pretty much endlessly rewatchable, especially with awesome reactors like you. Thank you for taking us along on yet another ATLA journey, it was very special. Time to buckle up one last time...

Edgar Gonzalez

We are finally at the end.. Dammit, im gonna tear up 🥲...having watched this all over again front beginning to end, brings back sooo much nostalgia.

LeRezwarrior

What a journey. Loved your reactions and comments on it! Def one of my favorites

J_Monsodicon

Zuko isn’t the little brother we once knew…every form he used in the fight with Azula was some piece of a form he learned from his travels…so so cool to show a subtle way of his character growth 🤞🏼🙏🏼🔥

Jojo Garlin

Azula is a bad person she’s done bad things but she also wasn’t shown the same level as compassion from others as Zuko did that put him on the right path. That’s not a justification, she’s still horrible but at the same time you have to acknowledge she’s a child who was a product of her environment, if things were just a little bit more different she could’ve been better.

Duderson Dude

This was the first show I saw every new episode when it aired from the beginning to the end and ever since I watch it yearly. An absolute masterpiece that everyone should experience. I still can’t believe this was on Nickelodeon lol

Pilot2b

There is no movie in Ba Sing Se

fishy

There are comics of avatar that are considered canon if you want to check those out!!

20 16

Lol the play was kinda satire and opinions fans had on the series given form by the writers of the show . During the time this was playing many people found katara cried and was emotional a lot. The great divide was the lowest rated avatar episode and was basically a filler to the fans . That's why the play skips over it in the play . The zuko and katara ship was and is still huge today in the Fandom so thats why they have there moment in the play . Fans kept questioning if jet died during the series so that's why they mention his death not being clear in the play . The drill episode was a two parter but apparently some fans thought it dragged on too long so thats why in the play the writers had the audience yawn and looked bored . Yeah that episode was kinda the writers acknowledging the fans a little bit lol.

2026-10-09 11:00 The poster at the beginning of the Ember Island Players episode shows who wrote it. It says, "a suspiciously informed cabbage merchant," or something to that effect. But yes, it was the cabbage merchant all along. the new show starts tomorrow. Why wait? Oh, man, we could be watching that Avatar aang: The Last Airbender movie next week. Get Korra done, boom, lickety-split! You would smoke Korra. It's so short. Well, it's not that short (it's four seasons), but it's pretty short. You are onto seven havens by like mid november. And then you could sneak in Hook at some point, which would be a cute reaction. Also, the original 2012 horrible rendition of Avatar: The Last Airbender, just so we could laugh. Those are just my pipe dreams, though, Kali. I know you're not gonna do it. It makes me very sad. I'm happy you watched this, though, and I guess at some point you'll catch up with other things. Maybe not the full smorgasbord, but a chunk. That is all I could ask for. Final thought: How good is the music? The music is just so good that it defies expectations totally, just like everything else about this show. And you know what? It even gets better in subsequent shows, series, and movies, so be excited!

The last fight is epic, but it's a show on Nickelodeon, and the Fire Lord's not going to roll up on Ba Sing Se laying down a sea of fire on the outer ring. Whenever I watch it, not that I'm disappointed with the finale, but I'm just like: was his plan really to attack an outcropping of oddly shaped rocks? There was no infrastructure, and there wasn't a strategic location to any of it. I always think it's kind of funny. I get it, he can't just be melting people off the streets with fire. They gotta make some semblance of an attempt to keep it a 'kids' show. Palms sweating? Kalilee firebender confirmed. Final thought: How good is the music? The other thing that was hard for Aang even compared to other air avatars, is that he is the last of his people. If he abandons his culture the air nomads are truly gone from the world.

Isaiah L

Why would you do that to her 😭

Isaiah L

The end is finally here, I'm so sad that its over. Thank you so much for watching this master piece with us. This show made up a lot of my child hood and revisiting this with you has bought so much comfort and nostalgia back. To many of us this isn't just another cartoon but a special memory. The many messages and lessons this show had in it taught me things I still remember to this day. All the characters had so much depth and it's so easy for every one of them to be a favorite character. Once again I am grateful to have revisited this journey with you Kali, I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I did!

Ventena

Actually I would be down as it is a cannon event for most avatar fans. Also honestly I love to watch reaction highlights of people seeing that garbage fire for the first time, I obviously cant sit though a full watch along but I wouldn't right it off because the experience is worth it to appreciate the show that much more.

BattleMaster

One of my favourite details is that Sokka, the whole time in the airship sequence was always holding Toph's hand, covering her from debris, and making sure she is safe as she cannot see well up there. He really became a hero in the end. A true man that he always wanted to be.

Trevor Go

That's a great point. For those of us who have watched the show since the early 2000s, we've experienced a journey of love, frustration, and hopeful anticipation. I think Kali would love that journey. Which probably means watching the shows/movies in release order and letting the Avatar world build. For many of us, it's been 18 years between Aang shows/movies, and finally coming back to them in the Avatar-Aang was so comforting. If you don't know already, there have been a lot of ups/downs and conflict in the Avatar world between the creators and Nickelodeon. This is part of what makes ATLA so special.

Sankis

There was apparently supposed to be some content in the series that would have explained the Lion Turtle more. It had to cut though, which is why it seems like it's such an out of nowhere thing. I never had a problem with it though I think there's some mixed feelings on it suddenly appearing with a solution among some fans. I love how terrified Ozai looks of Aang after he goes into the avatar state. Excited for you to watch the film, watch Korra, and then eventually get to Seven Havens! (fingers crossed that Seven Havens is good! I'm very hopeful after the film but we'll find out soon)

Jared Simpson

I know you said you were wanting to wait til closer to Spring to watch Korra but you may want to expedite with Seven Havens dropping.

AdmiralZhou

I've rewatched this series so many times now, that fight between Zuko and Azula always gives me chills. They did such a great job with the music for that fight. It's not any epic fight music like with Aang vs Ozai, it's somber music because it's a tragic fight between siblings. So good!

PG Modehouse

The string ostinato over the shifting harmonic foundation and the choir, while Aang in the Avatar State is spanking Ozai, it reminds me of the works of Philip Glass. I wonder if Jeremy Zuckerman, the composer, drew inspiration from there.

Justin Stewart

That's mean lol why would you say this

Valerian

I know you said you're gonna wait awhile to watch Korra, but you SHOULD watch the new animated avatar movie that just came out that has this cast in their mid 20s!!! its on paramount+

Garrick Smalley

Re Aang's kiss in the first episode, yep he should not have done it. on the other hand he is 12-13. My biggest problem with this show is the love "sex" between Children!

PG Modehouse

I highly recommend checking out the comics that follow the adventures of the Aang Gang after the events of the series. For one, the storyline about Zuko's mom's current whereabouts is really compelling, but there are also storylines about dealing with the aftereffects of colonialism. It's a great read!

Ventena

I’d offer a counterpoint to your thoughts on Azula. In Season 1, Zuko mentions that Azula is a firebending prodigy and that everything comes easily to her. He says, “My father says she was born lucky. He says I was lucky to be born. I don't need luck, though. I don't want it. I've always had to struggle, and that's made me strong. That's made me who I am.” Later, in Season 2’s “Zuko Alone,” we see this dynamic firsthand. When Azula performs her firebending forms perfectly, Ozai smiles, but when Zuko makes a mistake, he frowns. We then see Zuko’s mother consoling Zuko, as she likely had to do throughout Zuko’s childhood because of how his father treated him. Meanwhile, Ozai seems to treat Azula more favorably, which may have contributed to her mother paying less attention to her. In a sense, Azula was left with only one parent, and that parent’s affection was largely transactional. If your child is manipulative or displays troubling behavior, it's your responsibility as a parent to teach them right from wrong. But Ursa seems so preoccupied with protecting Zuko that she fails to recognize what Azula needs, too. And while Azula tries to brush off her feelings about the way her mother looked at her, it's obvious that those feelings affected her deeply. She then spends the rest of her formative years growing up under her father's influence. Of course, I don't think all of this is Ursa's fault, either. Being trapped in a toxic marriage with a powerful and abusive man must have been incredibly difficult in its own right. Finally, in this latest episode, Zuko tells his father that banishing him was the best thing Ozai could have done for him because it “put me on the right path.” And he's right. His banishment gave him three years to experience the world beyond the Fire Nation, while having Iroh by his side to guide him in the right direction. Zuko had both his mother and his uncle, two people who genuinely cared about him and devoted themselves to helping him become a better person. Azula never really had anyone like that. And I think that's what makes her story so tragic. She's only 14 years old. She's still a child. None of this excuses the terrible things she's done, but it does make her character and story more of a tragedy. Zuko had people who loved him enough to challenge him, guide him, and help him find his way, even when he was at his worst. Azula, on the other hand, was raised in an environment that rewarded her worst tendencies and taught her that love was something she had to earn through perfection, power, and fear. It's not simply that the people in Azula's life failed her. It's that, in many ways, no one ever really gave her a chance to become anything else.

Razvan Atrejei

I personally always find it hilarious to watch other people react to it and see for themselves how incredibly bad it is.

Ben

Omg how have I been watching this show for 2 decades and never have put together that Aang tries to go into another elemental sphere as a defense mechanism, that's so full circle! It's been so amazing experiencing this again through your reactions, can't wait for you to check out the new movie :))

Garrick Smalley

Uncle Iroh is the best! About the Fire Lord thinking the comet gave him power over the avatar. Aang has the same boost in fire from the comet and all the other elements as well! I feel so sorry for Azula.

DarkDemen

Ah, yeah, you have to read the comics to find out what happened to Zuko's mom. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the comics, but the Zuko's mom storyline is a fun adventure that I wish had been animated.

Kavishka Malitha

like Tony Stark once said "part of the journey is the end"

Otrunks

The best cartoon ever!! I loved rewatching it with you kali and I hope you loved it!!! cant wait for Korra hopefully it comes sooner!!!

mitchhamilton64

the ember island players is up there as one of my favorite episodes. i just love how its actually a recap of the series while also being in a play with play rules. how they use tricks and wires to tell the story. like the reason aang is a woman is the same why peter pan is in plays, because women are lighter to put on wires. or how theres some details they dont know fully, like zuko being the blue spirit or how ty lee's martial arts works. idk if you know but the poster for the play is a reference to the first seasons box set art, and the plays title a reference to the first episodes title. and the brother for the actor sokka played him in the play, thats why he sounds like him. i like ty lee's ending because she hated to be seen as a set since her and her sisters looked identical, and now shes joined a group that look alike. also, i didnt mention this but with mei and zuko you had mentioned theyre not good for each other because they seem to feed into each others bad parts which i disagreed with. yeah, they dont go "come on! lets go hop in a sunflower field!" but sometimes low energy is the perfect energy for someone. i dont think either of them couldve handled someone who brought that side to the relationship, instead they matched each others energy and thats okay. i think im in the minority but i want azula to have a redemption. shes only 14 and she was in the clutches of her father for so long but there are signs that she has a very human side. i overall love, love, love this series, its one of if not my favorite series and this finale is exciting and a great way to end things. that being said, its also my biggest complaint for the show. when you think about it, the gaang was right to think to wait. it made no sense to fight on the day of the comet when the fire nation are at their strongest especially since they already conquered ba sing sae, which is what the writers realized. im sorry but the whole plan by the firelord makes absolutely no sense. first of all, they start at the edge of the earth kingdom? do they have any idea how big the earth kingdom is? to somehow start at its edge and expect to make it all the way to ba sing sae? it makes zero sense. but what bugs me the most out of all of that is, zukos arc was perfect. he finally got what he wanted and it all came full circle with him being invited to the war meeting. we never saw what had happened and that was perfect. and now they warp it into "OMG! THE FIRE NATION IS GONNA BURN THE EARTH KINGDOM! IM ON THE WRONG SIDE!" i hate when a characters motivation for turning good is "omg! these people are gonna commit mass genocide! im actually on the wrong side!" because it feels like, well, yeah? isnt that obvious? i just hate it and feel it always undermines a characters journey, and even the writers didnt write the war meeting as originally that but they even said they needed a way for the gaang to have this information and they thought the war meeting would be perfect. zukos arc was perfect, he realized on his own after achieving everything and coming full circle literally that he was living the wrong life, and to change it, yes techincally you could argue he couldve still thought that but it just adds this ick to it where he realizes mass genocide isnt the answer.

Mike Adams

I have always seen the 2010 Avatar movie as just a live action Ember Island Players. Not the show itself. It helps

eladrin22

Just be cautious. As it happens, an entirely new series is starting tomorrow (7th oct). Watch for spoilers. I'd also love to see Korra sooner. The live action Movie can be fun, in that it made me realise how much I loved the animated series...

Thane Kyrell

Toph was casted as a buff guy because no one wanted to admit that they got theirs handed to them by a 12 year old girl. Aang struggled killing Ozai because he is the last airbender. If he kills it would be the death of his culture. Let’s not forget Azula is 14.

J M

I can watch Tales of Ba Sing Se without tearing up, but I can't say the same about Zuko's reunion with Iroh. gets me every single time oh and also for azula's last scene. i remember when i watched it as a kid and i thought "oh that kinda sucks for her but yikes". 12 years later i rewatched it as an adult and i wasnt prepared for it in the slightest

mitchhamilton64

and then loki knocked on the door and was like "HEY! ITS TIME TO DO DOOMSDAY!"

mitchhamilton64

i dont think its fair to put much blame on ursa. we dont know what their parental situation was. maybe she tried but azula always stuck to daddy, and we never knew what ursa and ozai's relationship was. it couldve been for all we know "my word is law" from ozai.

mitchhamilton64

...................no.... one was even close to bringing that up.......

Justyn

Im glad you noticed aangs voice getting lower. And that is one of the biggest reasons why his short speech at the end of the failed invasion makes me so emotional every time i hear him say "thank you all for being so brave and so strong". Hearing the actors voice deepen as hs ages and being reflected in the maturation of the character is just so beautiful god fiction is such an incredible thing. This show is so goddamn good.

Josue

Such an incredible finale. It really does a good job of wrapping things up with satisfying conclusions. Always cool to watch someone experience this for the first time. There are several comics that have come out over the years that you might want to check out. They take place after the series and are canon. There is one called 'The Search' that picks up the Zuko mom thread if you just wanna dig into that.

milo

I find it funny that the Ember Island Play, a play in a totalitarian fire nation, still made the Fire Lord look evil

J M

i love the bending during the aang vs ozai fight. there's some cool narrative themes with it. Aang's first attack is him shooting down the airship with earthbending and firebending, the two elements he struggled the most with. and his last bending move is when he uses the first waterbending technique he learned to raise the sea and put out all the fires nearby there's super cool attention to detail when aang falls into the water (just before he hides in the ball). falling into water from that height could be fatal, so while he's in the air, he bends up a column of water so that he has more water to fall through and brake his fall, and he also pushes it away at the last second so that his speed relative to the water is slower. they really thought through the physics on that bit

KuroDaKing

Something I love which is a small detail, the first episode is "The Boy in the Iceberg" the final episode is "Avatar Aang"

David Hansen

The lion turtle was hinted in a couple episodes all the way back to season 2. The library episode. When they are looking around the library, aang has a scroll and says hey look at these lionturtle. We see a image of lion turtles walking towards a man. In the episode Sokka master, there are two statues of them in the courtyard. And when the master is naming animal based of sokka personality he mention a heart of a lion turtle or something like that. There are some comics that help bridge some questions that go in between this and legend of korra like zukos mom.

iMarks

The very first word of the show and the very last word of the show encapsulates this show perfectly: "It's... Perfect" Also the music in the finale hits different because they used real orchestra for it.

Alexander Frangie

Love the finale reaction and I know you ultimately did understand Katara's confusion in regard to her and Aang. but I find it hard to blame her. Throughout this entire show the whole romance was very one sided and more importantly the characters are children 12 and 14 although they are sharing the same experiences the age gap of just two years seems drastic they both have deep trauma and neither knows what a healthy romance looks like. And during the invasion it wasn't like Katara kissed Aang, it was Aang who committed 100 percent. The only time their romance really got developed and Katra reciprocated Aang's interest was during the dancing in the cave otherwise it was a very underdeveloped one-sided romance that came up every now and again.

Shea

Azula's story is heartbreaking. Supposedly, the voice actor has yet to rewatch the finale because she focused on the darkest parts of her life and used that for this episode. This is a quote from the actor: " A lot of empathy came up for me around that scene, and I ended up really sobbing. It was this big burst of emotion that came forth, and I was crying in between takes. [Voice Director] Andrea Romano was like, "Are you going to be okay? Do you need to take a break?"

Null_Returns

And you completed this series exactly on the day where the New Avatar Series is starting from 9th October 2026. The new series = "Avatar: Seven Heavens" will explore the Avatar After Korra( Roku --> Aang --> Korra --> Pavi). Thanks a lot for ending the series on such a great day.

SingleMaltWhiskey

Maybe this time I will make it through the Iroh Zuko reunion without crying... nope nevermind.

Andre Harry

I second the Invincible and Arcane suggestions.

Alexander Wammer

I love that Aang didn't take the Fire Lord's life, but not because Ozai deserves to live. Aang is not just the Avatar, but the LAST Airbender. All that's left of his people and culture, and it would've been awful if he had to go against his cultures teachings because it would really be the end of the air nomads.

Onno Smits

Amazing reaction to an awesome finale! What a wonderful show this was. And like you said; Great lessons and morals to learn, everyone can get something out of this, children and adults alike. I haven't seen the new Avatar Aang animated movie yet, but I'd love to watch that along with you! I will also watch along with Korra. I saw (most of) that when it aired, I think. I would not watch along with any of the live-action stuff if you do end up reacting to that. The whole "so bad it's good"-angle is really not my style, I'd just find it infuriating to be honest. 😅 But I'm sure others are interested.

Tokaido94

I made a really long comment that apaprently didn't send lol The important part is: please make time someday and read the first comics that came after the show originally aired. The first 3 are "The Promise", "The Search" and the "The Rift". I believe you'll specially be interested in The Promise and The search, both for seeing how the world starts healing and changing inmediately after the series finale, and because you'll finally see a certain Mother and her story! Avatar was always more heartfull and more complex than a simple show for kids. And the comics really continued that in a beatiful way! If you end up liking them, there are several more with adventures with each of team avatar members in the weeks after the end of the show, as well as some that tells you stuff that happened between episodes of the show. Great reaction, is really good to share these stories with people that feels so strong about them, and like them just as much!

NeonThunder

In the comics Azula ended up being taken to a mental institution. We also learn about zuko's mother in he comics as well.

SidekickSteph

Great reaction!!! Loved watching your journey!! The movie isn’t comically bad, it’s like offensively bad lol everyone always ends up going in wanting a fun time to poke fun at a bad movie, but you end up just leaving mad. Good luck!!

Sky Quest Music Official

Thank you SO SO SO much Kali for watching this show and letting so many of us relive such a great show from our childhood. It was, as everything here and on your YouTube is, an absolute pleasure watching this again along side of you! And it does me heart good hearing your kiddo is into the show too. Passing it down for future gens!!!🤘🤘

Daniel Morgan

I'm gonna start watching the final episodes now. Definitely one of the times where I'm just gonna bite my nails the whole time. 😭😭 Also, I think I like that shirt you're wearing in general. 😅 I always see it on some special episode where I relate the shirt to what you're watching. (Forgot what I said last time, but I find the colors somehow fitting for the Avatar show.)

ConsistentlyStupid

I don't think the romance is ever one sided. Katara just expresses her side differently. I think sometimes people think love has to be this all encompassing thing that takes up the entire characters personality. But if you watch how Katara treats Aang, especially from the start of Book 2 onwards its extremely obvious that she loves Aang.

Cephandrius

Arcane would be a great next move in terms of western animation. One of the best animated pieces of media in my lifetime.

FrenchTantan

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The biggest tragedy in Azula and Ursa's relationship is that Ursa did eventually notice, but was denied the chance to intervene. When Azula acted coldhearted regarding Iroh coming back home after Lu Ten's death, it seemed to hit Ursa like a truck. That same night, when she said to Azula "It's time we talked", she had no idea of the conversation between Ozai and Azulon. She most likely thought that Azula was bullying Zuko, and wanted to get to the bottom of her behavior. I'm convinced that, if it were another case of Azula being cruel to her brother, Ursa would've actually tried to correct course, and this talk was the first step. There's nothing she could do about Ozai except be suportive of Zuko, but Azula was still a 10 year-old kid, and her daughter. As Azula's psyche realized, Ursa loved her, and would want the best for her. If even Azula, deep down, seems to be aware of this, and judging by the fact that Ursa never seemed malicious, I think that conclusion is logical. But then, Azula wasn't bullying Zuko for once, not entirely at least. In her own twisted way, she was warning him that he was going to die. Ozai's twisted ambition, and the order given by Azulon, trumped everything else. Ursa had to do something, and she was immediately banished that night. Every hope, every real possibility of Ursa paying more attention to Azula, possibly setting her on the right track, or trying at least, died with Azulon. That day was a crossroads, for everyone in the royal family. But Ozai's choice unknowingly deprived both his wife and by extention his daughter, of theirs.

It's been super fun watching this show with you, can't wait for the movie! Also I'm seeing a lot of people mention Arcane, totally agree with this suggestion. It is one of the greatest TV shows of all time, animated or not. It's some of the most beautiful animation style and amazing writing. Whenever I first saw the show it instantly became my favorite cinematic anything of all time, although it may have been a bit of recency bias back then and I would have to put a little more thought into ranking it against all media ever. But it's definitely absolutely amazing and mind-blowing.

JCR

The actors in that play NAILED Sokka for me. Least favorite character of the show for me.

just_jojo

watching along has been such a pleasure. i have looked foward to these uploads every thursday. what a journey!!

JT_45

Pantheon was amazing the show had me questioning reality in a good way.

Binho

It has come to an end. I have not watched Korra or the new movie, but I have read almost all the comics. I think they are all good. But if you only want to know what happens to Zuko's Mother, either read "The Search" or watch a video about the comic on YouTube. It will help with this closure. There are only 2 Deus Ex Machina momments I'm not a huge fan of. The Lion Turtle out of nowhere and Aang hitting his back at that rock giving him the Avatar State back. With that been said, it is my favorite series of all time. Thank you so much for sharing this with us here. And I will problably rewatch this here and on your YouTube channel when you are done there. And as much as I think the YouTube eddting is amazing (cudos to your editor as well), enjoying the full unedited experience here is just on another level. You are an amazing and genuine reactor, Kali. Thank you!

KyleJPie10

Like my 20th time rewatching this series (if watching through reaction content counts). The Zuko and Iroh reunion makes me cry every single time. Plenty of other shows out there are objectively more well-written, but nothing else hits me on an emotional level like that scene does.

Gated

Been a blast following this with you, thank you!

Gated

Watching it again is highly recommended! It becomes even better, trust me!

Kase

It’s so underrated for how great it is

Alexander Ocean

LOVED the new avatar movie, cant wait for you to get to it and then onto Korra!!!

UTU49

I would never demand that a reactor watch the 2010 Shyamalan movie. However, I find it absolutely fascinating to watch reactions to it. Even when people go in with rock bottom expectations, they are STILL disappointed. So many reactors, respond with lethargy rather than any amount of anger or frustration. Some reactors find it so flat, and so dull, and so inexplicable weak in virtually every area, that it just depresses them. It's as if, rather than making people angry, this movie just drains all of your energy away.

UTU49

"This show is so goddamn good." I've always felt that ATLA was miraculously good. Could we find some minor flaws in it? Of course we could, but I don't feel like doing that, because of how much incredible material this series gave us. Complaining about any flaws in Avatar would feel like... if someone single-handedly saved the lives of your entire family, and you responded by saying, "What about our kitchen table? Did you save our kitchen table?" All of the most important things, this series completely nailed: the humor, the drama, the action, the characters, the music, the voice acting, the emotional stakes, the psychology, and probably other things too.

UTU49

I've heard other people say similar things. I've always liked that idea.

UTU49

There are still, however, multiple little references to Lion Turtles in the series. I think a lion turtle appears or is mentioned in a store at some point and at Piandao's place.

UTU49

Kali! I thoroughly enjoyed your Avatar videos. This show is so good that no matter how many times you've enjoyed it, the highlights of this show are just stunning. Thanks so much for watching it, and I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much. I could share a zillion thoughts about these last 5 episodes, but instead I'll try to keep it down to 3. Firstly, I loved how much "The Ember Island Players" made you laugh. I thought it was hilarious, but also pretty painful for Aang and Zuko. Secondly, I love that the climactic battle between Azula and Zuko is more SAD than anything else. Ozai has set his children up to be on opposite sides of a war. Were it not for him, perhaps they could have had an okay relationship. Finally, imagine what it would feel like to watch this finale... and then immediately watch the very first episode. The growth of these characters, and the growth of the entire series is nothing short of mind-blowing.

Why It

writing this mid watch so idk if you touch on it later or if another comment mentions it but Aang's stance on killing isn't an Avatar issue its an air nomad issue, maybe just specifically his temple I'm not sure but they were taught nonviolence by the monks.

Why It

"I was never angry with you, I was sad because I was afraid you lost your way" instant waterworks. every. damn. time.

Thane Kyrell

Zuko is the older brother. Azula is 14

Though, this show and your love for anything anime/animated is what brought me to your Patreon and your steadfast conviction to continue watching the genre's you enjoy regardless of the push-back. So much love shown by all those who brought this series to life. Music, animation, traditional martial arts, dialogue, lot of representation and strong characters, etc., this show has it A L L !! Never get tired of seeing new folks finding it for the first time. Azula's tragic down fall was done with a certain amount of poignant grace in a limited time frame, was always hoping they'd show a redemption arc for her in a later adaptation. Honestly, she was as much a victim from the loss of her Mother as was Zuko maybe in more-so, in a indirect manner. Azula being much more like her father Ozai character wise that she needed Ursa's love to offset her maniacal tendencies. Remember, per the show, Azula (per wikipedia, other wiki's) is only 14 yrs old! Being easily enamored, indoctrinated, and possessed with her own (mis)fortune of having the power of royalty. Definitely, has been suffering from unacknowledged grief of her mental health, bottling it up, not wanting to show weakness while not receiving the loving guidance her actions were screaming to the world she desperately needed. Ozai, being performed by Mark Hamil, brings to mind what Luke Skywalker would of become had he embraced the dark side becoming a dark lord of the Sith or the Emperor. Such extremely talented voice actors with this cast. I could go on and on but feel I've said enough over the course of the series, just want to thank and applaud your efforts .-ˋˏ(•˕ •マ༻❁𝓚𝓪𝓵𝓲𝔀𝓪𝓵𝓲❀༺/ᐠ- ˕ -マˎˊ-. I saw! I don't want to rush through a series just to get to the next tho. I like to take my time with things so I don't get burnt out & just enjoy it for what it is 🤍

Fred Aczon

Great points about Azula, and how she considers love/fear. I've never thought about it that way. Out of all the incredible music from this show, The Last Agni Kai is still my favorite and never fails to give me chills. I agree with those who said you should react to the M Knight Shyamalan live action movie. After 16 years, the absolute disappointment is still raw for many. But knowing beforehand how abysmal it is, then watching the laughable performances and dialogue, questionable translations, unintentionally hilarious fight sequences, it's a perfect storm of bad decisions that shows how much it doesn't understand the show.

Daniel Morgan

P.S. I remember now where I've seen you wear that shirt. It was in one of the Star Wars vids, partially resembling the Rebellion outfits. Anyways, I like it. 😊 Also, now that I finished the animated series, I'm enjoying the live action Netflix series so far. And I'm gonna watch One Piece live action too. I think you'll REALLY like the Avatar one Kali. 😁😁 So flipping good.

Caden S.

This is the greatest animated project of all time. Watching you witness the splendor of this show has been a treat to my heart, and knowing you are sharing it with your daughter gives me hope for my own future. All the best to you mama. Peace out. “Water Tribe.”

RedeyeCajun

I don't now if another commenter has said it before, but I'll mention it here. There is "some" continuation with Zuko and finding his mom, among other things. Other than that is the latest animated Movie that came out this year. Its all in some comic series if I'm not mistaken (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Binho

I'm not so sure about that. She is a psychopath. Zuko, Mai and Ty Lee showed kindness and compasion even when kids. Azula never did. She was trying to manipulate everyone, never showed empathy or normal social behavior. She mistreated animals as well ("wanna see how Azula feeds turtle-ducks"). I think she was an amazing antagonist. And evil personality aside, I love her. When it comes to fighting style, she is my favorite. Elegant, stylish, precise and deadly. But I believe her ending was the best for all she did and was.

Jojo Garlin

That’s simply untrue. The Beach Episode showed she is capable of Responding to people’s emotion and offering comfort. Like when she quickly tried to make up for making Ty Lee cry and even admitting to being jealous or going off to find Zuko when he went up to the vacation house and invited him to come down to the beach with her as she puts it “this place is depressing”. She had nothing to gain from either of those moments especially with how she mocks them later in the episode. So she is capable of showing compassion or at least empathy to an extent. Even her confession shows this she plays it off like it’s nothing but even she admits that it hurt. This is what she believes her mother thinks of her. That she’s a monster. Stuff like her mother saying what’s wrong with that child. Always comforting Zuko no matter what. Kids act out. We see Zuko act out for attention emulating what Azula does and while his mom quickly reprimands him she also gives affection and warmth. From Azula’s perspective she’s just getting reprimanded and scolded while her brother gets praise even when he fails. It’s only natural for Azula to emulate more and seek validation from the person who enables her bad behavior and ruthlessness. It’s not right, it’s tragic that’s the point. Saying that she’s just a born monster takes away from her character and even the point of the story, that one can change their own destiny and life

I liked your analysis of the advice of the other Avatars. I feel like most people who watch the first time (reactors and just regular people as well) miss the nuance in those conversations. They say "the avatars said he needed to kill the Firelord and Aang defied them and found his own way" or something along those lines. That's what Aang SAID they said. But if you actually listen, none of them tells him to kill the Firelord. They don't even really imply it. They all give him real, valuable advice about being decisive and finding a way (his own way, as you said). Aang didn't see another way yet, so interpreted that as him needed to kill Ozai, until he figure out an alternative in the end. Many of them WOULD have killed the Firelord. But in a way, following the advice of the other avatars, while perhaps helpful at times, means he's not fully realized as the Avatar. That only happens when he accepts that it is HIS call.

Chris Truex

"She mistreated animals as well." Well, what happens immediately after Zuko says that? ZUKO mistreats an animal. I don't think, at the point she was at, that her ending could have been anything other than that. That doesn't mean we can't have empathy, and recognize that she, as Ozai's favorite, had received the full brunt of his "love" and manipulation, and we see the results of that.

Alexander Dashiell

I'm new here so I'm not sure how it all works, but I wanted to recommend 2 things. Yeah, the movie is awful, but is a rite of passage. It's always hysterical to see how pissed off people get at the absolute hot garbage that that film is. We all did it. You get the benefit of not being excited and let down. Instead you get to go in with terrible expectations..and still be let down. Lol. But also if you're moving onto anything else, and I know you've been divng into anime, I just KNOW you'd love My Hero Academia. So, I'd love to throw that into the hat if possible. Aside from that, it was a beautiful journey to be able to take along with you, and I'm glad you loved Avatar, it's world and characters too! Cheers.

You are smart to give yourself a break before Korra and even smarter to watch the new animated movie before Korra, it is a very good bridge between both series imo and even more content is available after that. Avatar studios has been very busy recently and it doesn't sound like they are slowing down. Anyway, I personally think that the negativity around the Netflix live action series is a bit overblown. Is it as good as the original cartoon no of course not but having watched it myself, I don't really have any major issues, and for the most part I think that the bones of the story are there. Season 3 was shot back-to-back with Season 2 and will release sometime in the middle of next year so I would just wait until then if you decide to watch it, that way you can form your own opinion over the whole thing. Definitely better on your own time, though. I found your channel within the last few weeks after going through the series for the first time myself a few months ago. I came here because I enjoy your thoughts and reactions, and I will stick around and see what other content you have available.

rian

zutara should’ve been end game 😤 lol

UTU49

FrenchTantan. I really like these thoughts about Azula and Ursa. There's no question that Azula's life could have been very different if her mother had been a part of her life past that day.

UTU49

Chris Truex. I really liked these thoughts. If we actually listen to all of the exact words that each Avatar says to Aang, all of their advice is very general and very reasonable. I was very happy to see Aang find his own way to end Ozai's reign.

FireFistFonger

The giant lion turtle does get explained a little more during the second season of legend of korra

Paul Wright

You're right, Redeye. There's a graphic novel called "The Search" that talks about Zuko's mom. Plus, there's other graphic novels that talk about other aspects of the world after this series but before Korra, such as "The Promise", "The Rift", "Smoke and Shadow", "North and South", and "Imbalance". I'd highly recommend these in your spare time. I got into this amazing franchise earlier in 2024 right before I joined this wonderful channel so it was a real treat getting to rewatch it all over again through fresh eyes. Cannot wait to see you react to the Legend of Korra.

Dogman

Korra isnt as good as the og series but i think its still well worth the watch . The animation is a big upgrade too

rian

no way man
