I actually loved this movie??? 😅

I feel like it was so much FUN from start to finish and the writing was incredibly clever! I went in expecting a crazy horror/slasher with jump scares all over the place but I was so surprised at how self-aware and funny it ended up being! It felt like the movie was constantly in on the joke with us but still scaring the pants off me and having me question literally everything lol. I loved that! The paranoia throughout the whole movie was amazing 😅 I loved that EVERYONE felt suspicious to me at some point. And honestly I think that's what made ghostface actually super scary and unsettling... It's not some supernatural monster lurking in the dark. It's a disturbed person. Someone that could be in the same room as you, laughing with you, comforting you, or pretending to be just as scared as everyone else. But that reveal on who the ghostface actually was??? ABSOLUTE CHAOS lol.But yeaaaah, after this scary movie I'm realizing how much I'm actually enjoying these movies finally! I can also see why ghostface became such an iconic figure in horror and why so many people still dress up as him for Halloween 🤣 I'd honestly love to check out the next movies if they're any good. I think there's like 6 now?? What do you guys think?Thank you for hanging out!See you in the next spooky movie this weekend: The Silence of the Lambs 👀Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/EPQXg9CcYyc I watched this on Disney+

Classic, thrilling, and one of the most iconic teen slasher movies Hey Kaliwali..."Do you like scary movies?" 😈☠️👻

BERSERKER HALL OF REVIEW S

Every time I see someone react to this I automatically think of the horror comedy scary movie 😂🤗hopefully you will one day check the first two horror parodies ( scary movie) 1 &2 out 🤗

logan wojtal

Would love for you to do the whole Scream franchise

Maria

yesss check the rest out. they’re all enjoyable, some better than others, but still worth watching! perfect films for the Fall / Halloween time 🎃

Chad Bushue

Oh boy did I just do a happy dance when I saw this get posted….

James Park

Id love to see scary movie reaction but I think you'll have to see i know what you did last summer and usual suspects first to get most of the references

Chuckles1004

Here we go!! Ya, except for the first 20 minutes, and the resurrection of Drew Barrymores' career, this movie is much more style than Horror. There is 7 of these, so-so until the Jenna Ortega ones.

Gustavo Sampaio

There's a movie called "Totally Killer" that's a cross between Back to the Future and Scream that is SO MUCH FUN. I totally recommend it. lol! Scream is epic and I absolutely love the original. The others aren't as good, in my opinion.

Nina

Drew Barrymore is so great in the opening scene. She doesn't have much screentime, but I still think this is her best performance.

Anthony Demith

This is a franchise you don't need to wait for Halloween for.

Steve Mercier

Where homage meets parody meets pretty damn good horror movie. This movie has just the right level of jump scares, cheese, self-awareness, and for the most part good performance (sorry...not a Skeet Ulrich fan--though I don't hate him anywhere near as much Movies with KL hates Skeet Ulrich's hair...you should watch her reaction). Plus, Wes Craven dressed up as 'Fred' the janitor!!!

Howie

Can you believe I never saw this movie before? Thanks for the react! I know what I am going to be watching this weekend!

kaliwali

agree!! her screaming at every noise was so relatable & real LOL

Dude Longcouch

Yay, so glad to hear you liked it! Scream is one of my favorite franchises for all the reasons you mentioned. It's self aware, clever, funny, and meta, all wrapped up in slasher dressing. And the cast is iconic! I used to watch this movie with my older sister when we were kids and we would quote every line while watching. We were right there for Scream 2 on the day it released, as we have been for every sequel since then. The Scream movies mark periods of my life, just like they mark the times in which they were released. There are 7 of them now, and while I can't say they're all as good as the first one, they're all worth watching in their own way. I would be here for every single reaction if you choose to continue with the franchise!

2026-10-16 20:00 "Scream" is so up your alley because when I first watched it I was a teenager it was the perfect "gateway" movie to horror. It's scary but not terrifying, knowing but not silly, disturbing but not traumatizing, it's Wes Craven, one of the godfathers of late 20th century horror cinema essentially creating a masterclass in how horror is constructed, almost like it's teaching the audience how scares are structured and mounted, and, in that way, it's oddly comforting. Because once you understand the theory behind it, it arms you with a bit more confidence to enjoy scarier films. Kind of the "Beginners" class for all horror fans, and so congratulations, you've graduated!

rian

i really good one for you to watch would be Sinister 😀

20 16

10:17 that might be the biggest scream we have seen from you yet lol 😆 . Thx for the great reaction.

KamikazeCDN

I was only 8 when this came out, I had no business watching it and yet I did. I had also seen a lot of the classics at that point too. My family's love of horror got passed down to me early clearly lol. Would you believe this is also classified as a "Dark Comedy" on top of the slasher? It's maybe not as scary as some movies but Scream largely revitalized the whole slasher genre when it came out so it deserves it's credit. The slasher genre itself, as much as I love it, had gotten fairly stale and oversaturated. There had been far too many mediocre or just bad sequels in the giant franchises prior to this release - though part of the slasher charm is that they are kinda cheesy at times. The whole meta-commentary it has, acknowledging the common horror tropes or cliches, making it more of a "whodunit" instead of the more common "unstoppable force" and of course having an iconic killer appearance-wise were all very smart choices. Unfortunately I do think the Scream franchise (they just released 7) has started to become the very thing this first movie was poking at, full of cliches, repetitive and full of tropes. We do need you to react to some of the classic OG slasher franchises. Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare On Elm Street, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Chad Bushue

This movie, as you said was a true love letter to scary movies. By the time 1996 rolled around the Friday the 13th, Halloween and Wes Ceaven’s Nightmare on Elm Street franchises had undergone multiple reboots and were suffering from endless bad sequels so when this came out it was a real shock to the system. And an extremely popular, bankable star like Drew Barrymore not making it past the first ten minutes was a huge shock to audiences because no one saw it coming Yes, overall it pays homage to past horror films but makes its own way from here and up til Scream 6 they’re all awesome

KJ

So glad you drowned out the 'Silence of the Lambs' reference 🤣

Chris Waltman

I'm glad you enjoyed Scream. It was a masterpiece. As for the sequels, I won't say they're bad. They definitely have their moments. But in my opinion, none of them are as good as this first one. Either way, I'm happy to be along for the ride.

Bryan

oh please do the whole franchise 🙏 these movies are more on the campy side of things but once you accept it as is, they become 10x more enjoyable & as you mentioned.. the script is very self aware of it

mitchhamilton64

i love this movie so much. i cannot tell you the amount of slasher films that have existed before scream such as the immense amount of friday the 13th films, nightmare on elm street, halloween films, and many, many others that all had their own tropes and rules, like randy was saying. this was really a breath of fresh air where the killer isnt unstoppable, they were very human which maybe what made it even more scary, but i do love how humanized they are in this. they get kicked, hurt, knocked down. just great. and as some have said, this is the best one with it going down with just about each entry. havent seen past 4 but i did have a good time with those 3 as well whats funny is drew barrymore was a big part of promotion for the movie since she was by far the biggest star. she was on posters, trailers, her name was on the cover only to have her die first in the first 10 minutes. during her conversation when they were talking about a nightmare on elm street she said "yeah, the first one was good, the rest sucked" was a nod to the fact that the director of this, wes craven, directed only the first one. good catch on the janitors outfit btw, that was indeed freddy's outfit, and the janitor is even named fred AND he is played by wes craven for that scene. when randy was watching halloween and saying "behind you, jamie" is a bit of meta humor since the actors name is jamie kennedy, and the killer was behind him as he was saying it to jamie lee curtis's character. dewy was originally supposed to stay dead at the end but test audiences liked dewy so much and didnt like that he died, so they changed it. whats funny is when billy threw the phone, he accidentally hit stu for real, so him saying "you hit me with the phone, dick!" was an improv. when neve campbell hit billy a second time with the umbrella, she missed the mark on his chest and accidentally stabbed him for real, making him let out a genuine reaction.

Ray

kaliwali has been watching too much Spy X Family. She's as paranoid as Twilight. She suspects everybody.

Tim Heron

I've read that, in the aftermath of the movie's release, the sales of caller ID tripled. The school janitor in the Freddy Krueger sweater was a cameo by director Wes Craven. The murder of the school principal came about after producer Harvey Weinstein noticed that about 30 pages (roughly 30-ish minutes of screen time) had passed without anyone dying. It also inadvertently solved a problem that screenwriter Kevin Williamson was trying to solve; in the final act, so Sidney would be alone for the showdown with Ghostface, he needed a reason for the kids at Stu's party to leave.

Christian F

I would classify this as one of the "fun" horror movies. It's one that parents showed their kids back in the early 2000s or '90s, I don't remember when it came out. But this was a classic Halloween movie when I was in elementary school lol. I dressed up as ghost face around 3 different times for Halloween during elementary school/middle school. Not deeply troubling at all, but scary in a fun way. Perfect for kids.

Ray

You might as well watch Halloween soon.

rubberkidney

Fortunately, my withdrawal from your Avatar reactions has been supplemented by a brand new Avatar show that is super awesome, so that's working out great.

Soul Kloud

I love scream.... but it always ruins Friday the 13 for a lot of reactors lol. Hopeful you don't remember it. If you ever do watch that movie.

Joe Mallard

Scary Movie has to be coming soon right?

Christian F

Love the turtleneck BTW lol. Very spooky season.

DarthChef

This movie will forever have some strange meaning for me because much of the exteriors for this movie was filmed in and around where I live, Sonoma County in Northern California. In some shots if the camera just went 10 feet to the left you would see my son's favorite ice cream shop we just went too a few weeks ago for his birthday, or 10 feet to the right you would see a great bakery, down the street from one of the houses they filmed at was a restaurant I worked at, just down the street from one of the other houses they used was the old house of the pastor who married my wife and I, the grocery store they went too was a store around the corner from the church I go to.

Caleb Harvey

6:27 I never noticed the boyfriend in the background

Dave M.

When the question comes, you can hear the theme: Name the killer in Halloween! Clever. Also, Kali, NO! YOU'VE BEEN SPOILED FOR FRIDAY THE 13TH!! 😭 And the initial jumpscare when the chair 🪑 gets thrown through the glass. MWAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!! 😈 Got ya, and got ya good, Kali! 🤣 Wishing I could have seen an on-screen heart monitor for this reaction. I would have loved to have seen Kali's heartrate racing. 🫀

Dave M.

Yup. Second! This movie was initially called "SCARY MOVIE" before being renamed "SCREAM"! FACTS

Mister Lou

Jamie Kennedy, who played Randy, the movie buff, who worked at the video store, was the one saying "Jamie, look behind you!" Makes it extra meta. I hope you eventually check out Scary Movie because I think you'll really appreciate the satire.

David

This is such a fun movie! I watch it every October, and have for years. So glad you enjoyed it, and your reactions to all the reveals and kills were as good as ever. There were a lot of "copycat" movies like this in the late 90s and I love a few of those as well. "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Urban Legend" are the ones I always make sure to watch after Scream.

JCR

Scream is an absolute blast!!!! The sequels are actually not bad, especially compared to how bad other horror sequels are. Wolf Creek and Wolf Creek 2 are lesser known, but great horror films.

Wil Castillo

I'm glad she didn't end it with an "I'll be right back."

kaliwali

yesss I agree with all of this!

kaliwali

I honestly don't even know what the spoiler for Friday the 13th was lol. All the movie refrences went straight over my head or I la la la'd them out 🤣

Al Paka

I think this is one of the few films that I find scarier as an adult than I did when I was a teenager. Back then, I didn’t fully grasp everything that was actually happening. As an adult, however, I realized that Stu had no motive for the murders. He killed simply for the sake of killing. Just think about that for a second. His buddy shows up, asks if he wants to kill a few people, and he just says, "Okay..." Ironically, that’s exactly why I found Matthew Lillard’s performance the most memorable part of the film. He did a fantastic job portraying that twisted, darkly humorous, and unhinged personality. I also read that the scene where Stu is on the phone with Sidney—crying and covered in blood—was partially improvised. The line, "My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me," wasn’t even in the script.

TheJoeKerr

Kali you should wear a heart rate monitor and display it on screen. 😂

fireforeffect

On our way to watching all the prerequisites for "Scary Movie" and I love it!

Valerian

if you want a funny comedy you should try the scary movie series, makes fun of a lot of horror movies but the first one focuses scream and a few others

dohpam1n3

I would strongly recommend watching phone booth - early in Colin Farrell’s career, psychological thriller, and most of the movie takes place in a phone booth. Takes the early phone call scene and makes magic with it, super fun. Not exactly a horror but same stakes and suspenseful as!

Dave M.

"Jamie, behind you. Behind you!" The actress' name in Halloween is Jamie and the actor's name in Scream is Jamie. And the killer being behind them both. 😂 I love that.

rian

OMG you now have to watch scary movie 🤣🤣🤣

Dave M.

Because it's Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween, the movie he's watching. Love that little reference. Also, I have two words for everyone that has seen Scary Movie -- without spoilers for Kali -- Miss Mann. 🤣 That's all I'm saying. 🤐🔒 🔑 🗑️

kaliwali

that's on the schedule for next week :)

kaliwali

I wanted to! I thought that my Oura ring woudl be able to do it but apparently I need an apple watch or something similar. I wish I would have known that before this week so I could order something in time. But I'll try to get one going at least for Conjuring 2 if I can get it here and set up in time!

Hans Engelen

Do the whole series ... just do it ... do it ... But get Hunger Games over first. Also ... Neve Campbell ... Nuf said

AJ

Good O'l Scream, Always a fun watch in it's own right but geez.. you certainly make it a lot more fun, -ˋˏ(•˕ •マ༻❁𝓚𝓪𝓵𝓲𝔀𝓪𝓵𝓲❀༺/ᐠ- ˕ -マˎˊ-, putting a focus on the satirical side of the movie antics ehehe turned this into comedy gold! I saw this in the most hilarious endearing way, not sure if you jumped this much in The Thing and will have to go back to check! Definitely looking forward to the sequel, hopefully we won't have to wait until next Spooktober Fest.

James Park

I like how he really hit him in the head with the phone by accident

Belthazor82

I am glad you're enjoying the horror genre. Definitely check out the other Scream movies, too. They are not all as good as the first one, but still fun to watch. Well, maybe not #7, but you should still make up your own mind about it. I also highly recommend The Haunting of Hill House. It's a 10 episode series from director Mike Flanagan. It's a masterpiece in cinematography and storytelling. Maybe for next year? Or even during the year if you don't want to strictly limit horror to Halloween. He also directed the shows The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher. All of them are absolutely worth watching.

Belthazor82

"The school janitor in the Freddy Krueger sweater was a cameo by director Wes Craven." Which makes it all the more fun when Tatum says to Dewey, "The janitor is your superior."

JeRon Washington

Kaliwali, my wife won't watch any scary movies, the only time I'll watch a scary movie is when she's asleep

JeRon Washington

Kaliwali, I hope you don't have any fucking nightmares

Schroecat

Scream is an incredible comedy. It always blows my mind when I hear people talking about it as a "horror" movie, because while it utilises nearly all of the tropes and timing that great horror films need, it never delivers anything that is even remotely scary or tense. It's just funny from beginning to end.
