Have you ever spoken to a doppelganger?

Comments

The title reminded me of one of my favorite books. 15 years ago, when I was 21 I was in basic training, which spanned over Christmas. Due to that, we got to go to the mall on post and just have an actual nice day, and were allowed to buy some stuff. I went to the Barnes and Noble and just happened to see a book on the shelf titled "Dopplegangster". Of course I had to pick that book up, what idiot would pass on that? The front cover had a woman in a black outfit holding a battleaxe, with a beheaded gangster on the ground. That was all I needed to buy that book. Found out later that it was the second in a series of fantasy books, each dealing with their own supernatural element of some sort.

my daughter who is now 15 encountered a Christopher Reeve doppelgänger at our local grocery store. She was around 3ish at the time. We had watched the Christopher Reeve Superman films, she is still a Superman fan. Anyways there was a guy in the aisle next to ours in a large coat, tie glasses, and even had the old school fedora hat on. This dude wasn't in any cosplay or anything as far as I know. Anyways my daughter kept peeking over to the other aisle while my wife was looking at something. I asked her what she was looking at and she said Superman. I was like what? I thought she meant a toy or something. I wheeled my self around the corner with her and looked and yea he looked like Christopher Reeve. Anyways as we go down that aisle and he is still looking at stuff and my daughter keeps staring and eventually while I was looking at like tea or coffee or something she went up to him and asked him where his cape was and he responded with his finger over his mouth and went, "shh, I'm Clark right now". He picked up whatever he wanted to buy put it in his cart and every time we saw him as we shopped that day he waved, eventually of course he left and we left. My daughter still remembers it and so do my wife and I. It was a weird and amazing experience and really made my daughter's day.

Also side note, to this day even though she is 15, the encounter still means a lot to her and yea, we saw Clark Kent at County Market

[5:35] Oh my gosh Ted, yes mate! Thinking about what one’s intention is (or what one is trying to accomplish etc ) by saying ‘BLANK‘ before speaking, (or engaging in conversation with someone) is incredibly useful! 👏 Just take care not to let it govern every interaction bc it can defs contribute to one’s (social) anxiety and overall negative emotion. Brett is being a good parent to you Ted! P.S. yes, I am Australian… I gave myself away by using the affectation “mate” 😜 P.P.S. I am also a psychologist, not that that really matters rn but maybe it does 🤷‍♂️

I went in to apply for a job once and the guy I handed the resume to looked just like me. I could tell he was weirded out too. I didn't get the job.

I'm gonna answer a different question not of the day: I think the most iconic voice in American culture is probably The Governator. But for a swing-for-the-fences answer, I'll say Nancy Cartwright. I've heard that Bart Simpson is possibly the most recognized fictional character in history - you would be hard-pressed to find someone that didn't recognize a Bart line immediately.

I once walked by my own doppelganger in a stairwell, and it was rather eerie, we both just sort of looked at each other, nodded, and shouldered past each other. Like "Hmm, yes, doppelganger, this may as well happen."

The most iconic voice in American culture is definitely Louis Armstrong. His popularity of a vocalist lasted for 40 years, from the 30's to the 60's and he defines a facet of that period of American music in a way that nobody else does (except maybe Ella Fitzgerald, but her vocal quality is less uniquely identifiable for the average listener). Besides, his voice has remained relevant in pop culture, and has become naively synonymous with "jazziness," even as it relates to R&B and other forms of more popular music.

I've never seen my doppelganger, but lots of people talk to me like they know me and say I have a doppelganger. It weirds me out. I get a bad vibe. Kinda hope I don't run into him.

QOTD: I never spoke to my doppelganger, but I did see him in college. He was like two years behind me and for my last two years of undergrad people would confuse us for each other. We had one class together in like an auditorium, but we never spoke. I think I was afraid of or for something. It was like a bizzaro version of me and one day I thought, am I a bizzaro version of him?

Also, this playthrough inspired me to return to Elden Ring, and the DLC announcement made me wanna finish, so I beat it for the first time yesterday

QOTD: I am mildly distinct looking. I saw my doppelgänger selling THC gummies on a billboard on the highway outside my town with a YouTube thumbnail type expression with open mouth and pointing to the product. Never met the man, but sounds like he’s livin a good life.

I've read that the leveling system for the DLC will be adjacent to the base game's leveling system. Going in overleveled wouldn't be a problem if base game stats were 'flattened' in DLC, which I would imagine is essential for adjacent leveling.

I sat beside the French version of my nephew in Paris. Had to text my sister in England to check if he wasn't just on holiday.

BagofSeat

Goombas, huh? You think they're hiding a little head in all the armor Ted? (like the live action ones) haha

The doppelgänger bit happened to me once. An older guy stopped me and showed me a picture of his clean shaven, red haired son and told me— a dark haired, bearded dude— I look just like him lol. Didn’t know how to respond so I just said “yeah! I see it!”

Damn, acknowledging the parasocial dynamic just like that. Now my world is crumbling like fragments of chalk between a greasy pool shark's fingers.

Alex, you done called me out in this episode with the "I apologize if that offended you" reply :P
