We have been getting back into board games a lot more lately, and it made us want to design something inspired by one of the first “modern” board games we ever played and fell in love with. There is something so nostalgic about sitting around a table, trading piles of sheep for brick, blocking someone’s road at the worst possible moment, and pretending you are not still bitter about where the robber got placed three turns ago.

So we decided to turn that cozy game-night feeling into wall decor with a Catan-inspired hexagonal tile clock.

Each resource tile prints separately using HueForge, and after weeks of very tedious colour testing, filament swaps, and tiny refinements, we are so happy with how the final tiles came together. The goal was to make each tile feel recognizable and board-game inspired while still looking like a finished art piece on the wall.

Key features

Each hex tile prints separately using the HueForge system which can be printed entirely by inserting pause and swap commands at key layer heights with no AMS needed!

Two versions of the clock base including either raised or flush numbers

100 percent scale fits a 250 mm x 250 mm build plate, but can be scaled for smaller printers as long as you only scale in X and Y and keep the Z height the same

What is included

You receive:

Clock base in two versions (Raised and Flush letters)

Seven full colour HueForge hex tiles for each terrain found in the game Catan along with their respective describe files for filament swap layer heights

.3MF files for printing all tiles and clock bases using a 4 colour AMS

Custom Catan-themed clock hands. Feel free to print them in your favourite player colours!

Clock Prop. If you are hanging your clock, this piece can be glued below your clock mechanism to stop it from tilting downwards and/or be used as a clock hanging mechanism if one isn't included in your clock mechanism kit

Files for this month are provided to active Drake and Ancient Dragon patrons through Google Drive during the release month. Once the models are available on MyMiniFactory, you will receive a reward link so you can add them to your MyMiniFactory library.

Printing notes

Printer type: FDM

Clock base + hands:

Material: PLA

Nozzle size: 0.4 mm

Layer height: around 0.2 mm

Infill: 15 to 25 percent gyroid (or your preferred pattern)

Supports: none required

Wall-Type: Arachne or thin-wall printing modes are recommended

Hex tiles:

Material: PLA

Nozzle size: 0.4 mm. A 0.2 mm nozzle will give the highest detail, but it will be significantly slower. If you are scaling the clock down, printing with a 0.2 mm nozzle will help preserve the detail in the tiles.

Layer height: 0.08mm with a base layer of 0.16mm

Infill: 100% infill (rectilinear)

Supports: none required

Wall-Type: Arachne wall mode is highly recommended when printing the HueForge tiles to help capture as much fine detail as possible.

Scaling notes

This is very important for the HueForge tiles:

When scaling for a smaller build plate, scale in X and Y only

Keep the Z height exactly the same

Recommended scaling:

100 percent for 250 mm x 250 mm build plates

85 percent for 220 mm x 220 mm build plates

70 percent for 180 mm x 180 mm build plates

If you are scaling, ensure to apply this scaling to all files being printed (except the clock hands)

Multi colour printing notes

We have included .3MF files for printing all tiles on a 4 colour AMS.

All the colours we used are listed in the respective "describe.txt" file for each tile.

Some of the tiles use more than 4 colours, so we inserted a pause command in the middle of the print. At that pause, you can swap out the previously used colours and load the next required colours to finish the tile as intended.

Colours used:

PLA BambuLab Black

PLA BambuLab Basic Blue

PLA BambuLab Basic Cyan

PLA BambuLab Basic Turquoise

PLA BambuLab Basic Light Gray

PLA BambuLab Basic Gray

PLA BambuLab Matte Dark Chocolate (any dark brown)

PLA BambuLab Matte Pine Green/PLA BambuLab Basic Mistletoe Green (any dark green)

PLA BambuLab Basic BambuLab Green

PLA BambuLab Basic Pumpkin Orange

PLA BambuLab Basic Yellow

PLA BambuLab Basic Jade White

General recommendations

Use the included describe files for the HueForge setup and colour swap schedule

If printing the flush multi-colour number versions, do not use any ironing methods as this will smear the number colour across the surface of the dials

Clock mechanism purchasing guide

This clock is designed for a standard quartz clock movement, but you will want to check the shaft length before purchasing.

The maximum clock base thickness at the center is 7 mm, so make sure the threaded shaft on your clock mechanism can pass through a base that is up to 7 mm thick while still leaving enough thread exposed to secure the washer and nut.

You can use the included/standard hands from your clock kit, or replace them with the 3d-printable hands included in this file package

Tier access and usage

Drake tier: Receives the Catan themed clock for personal use as part of this month’s pack.

Ancient Dragon tier: Receives the same files plus the right to sell physical 3D prints under the merchant license terms in our Patreon introduction post.

STL resale or sharing is not permitted. Credit to Curations By Kira is required when selling physical prints, and merchants must have an active Ancient Dragon subscription.
