The last few days have been exhausting and stupid, but my computer is back up and running. Work will now continue as normal.

Thank you everyone for your patience, as well as those offering genuine advice or their personal assistance. I'm sure everyone can relate to a mysterious computer ailment that takes a village to exorcise.

For those curious, a description of my adventure, as condensed as I can make it:

-Computer would not get past boot screen (initial screen with motherboard logo), and the motherboard put up code A2. This code has something to do with issues finding a path to a boot drive, so says Google. Screen was unresponsive to two separate keyboards.

-I have two boot drives (long story). I identified and removed one of my boot drives that was causing the error code, and succeeded in getting to BIOS. However, my boot sequence was now empty, despite my remaining valid boot drive.

-This drive was proven healthy, and the location of the boot loader files was even found, but I was unable to get two separate motherboards to identify it. Attempts were made via command prompt to identify or heal the issue with the drive's boot loader. Results were bewildering and unfruitful.

-Being at the end of my rope and with a desire to return to work no matter what, I did what I had been doing everything I could to avoid, which was a fresh reinstall of Windows. I backed up my files, wiped the drive and reinstalled Windows. And here we are.

If you want more gory details of everything I tried, please close your eyes and gently scrub those desires away from your mind. I would prefer to stop being a computer doctor for a while and get back to the important business of painting veins on penises.

The best vein painter in history! Glad you got it fixed up, I work on computers as a side-hustle and boot problems are the bane of my existence.

Yay!

didn't want to interject with my professional advice as I figured you probably already had a half-dozen folks helping you by the time I saw the initial post. but I figured by the sporadic nature of the occurrence it was either hardware or a random windows update corrupting your boot sectors. regrettable! I find the fresh starts refreshing, usually. companies (and yourself, evidentially) usually do not share the same sentiment. welcome back, penis doctor!

Many years ago, some manner of reinstall on my work machine caused my tablet (with its settings perfectly coiffed to my requirements) to shit itself, and led me down a rabbit hole of past driver versions and endless adjustments of settings. This was during a time where I had no money and was many times more rabid to get back to commission work, and ever since then any sort of OS reinstall or misalignment of the essential settings I need to work gives me big anxiety. Even now, at best I regard it as a mildly irritating romp through windows settings to turn off all of its worst features and time spent downloading everything I need for it to function like it did before.

most early tablet drivers were laissez-faire with their existence. very fickle, very frustrating. it's always frustrating when god sort of paternally takes away our funny electrical box on a whim. even more so when it's your livelihood! even more more so when it's a livelihood built on anthro animals with forearm thick dicks. (he has no sense of humor in that way.) modern user interfaces have enhanced this difficulty by making you fight with a machine that's supposed to follow your instruction, as any machine should, by inundating you with bullshit and building new doors to old rooms. all this to say, I feel dat

Oof. I felt my blood pressure rising just reading that. Glad you got it all sorted out!

good ol' winblows, screwing stuff up as per usual. -.- Personally, I'm one more screwup caused by micro$oft away from deleting the whole mess and going to Linux -.-

Glad you got it sorted. Hope you didn't lose too many apps in the process. Personally, I have never been able to recover anything with the Windows Recovery Environment. It's just a cruel joke.... My standard practice is to keep 2 physical drives: C: for the OS and all installed applications. D: for work product, email data bases, etc. I then use Acronis True Image (booting from the thumb drive it generates) to clone each of those disks regularly. Since my applications evolve much more slowly than work-product and emails, I can usually recover from a crash by swapping in an older image of the boot disk, keeping the latest data disk in place. Then I just have to do a mess of Windows Updates, to get the backup disk to where the system disk was before it crashed. I've never had a data disk get corrupted. Especially with solid state drives, HW failures are rarely at fault. It's almost always Windows tripping over it's own dick and corrupting my OS disk.

If it’s any consolation, I’ve spent two years building my dream job from scratch. Especially lately, I take copious videos of my work for clients during all my appointments, and got to the point my phone was crashing out because I quickly strangled it out of storage space. My incredible software engineer husband found a solution, now I Dropbox everything, but I am still working out a few bugs that become mildly infuriating from time to time. Ahhhhh, technologyyyyyyyyy!!

So glad we are back in business Meesh 🩶

That might be even worse than the semester I spent dealing with a short in my mother board that only sometimes acted up (never while at the shop) to randomly fry something right when I was working on a paper of some kind. Let's just say that I spent way too much time at the student union building or library working from floppy discs on the public computers.
