My partner LOVES this song and played it on repeat after we heard it on the anime MASHLE, but I haven't seen it performed by them. This looks insane. Great video! Their song for Dan da Dan is pretty good, too.

I always liked that "unconventional" part the best. The rest of the song I have a hard time with the weird beat but I feel like I understand that part.

They're a duo, and interestingly both of them have competed and won in competitions for their own respective talents. The DJ won one of the biggest DJ competitions in the world, (link to vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij14UCxKXV4), and the rapper R-Shitei won the Ultimate MC Battle Grand Championship 3 years in a row. Anyway just thought that was interesting. I know what you mean about wanting to know the language because this sort of stuff prompted me to minor in Japanese at university haha.

Ah it’s the Mashle song! Haha I did not know who sang it until this reaction but recognized it in the first line. I feel like you have to listen to the song while watching the anime cause it matches so well with the energy of the show

You should check out “Otonoke” from them next! It’s the first opening for the anime Dandadan. I do feel like J-pop is really where a lot of unconventional music actually get really popular and accessible. 19:32 The lyrics in this song are really tied to the anime, so it’ll probably make more sense once you watch it, lol. If you check out the music video instead you can probably get it more. Also, good news if you’re learning Japanese, I think Japanese pronunciation is actually one of the easiest among major languages. It only has 5 vowel and 15 consonant sounds and pretty much every syllable follows a simple 1 consonant + 1 vowel pattern. (Bad news is that everything else is what makes Japanese extremely hard lol)

Native Japanese speaker here! (I'm from the States but I spent my whole childhood growing up in Japan and attended a public Japanese school, and don't remember a time when I didn't speak Japanese) The translation is definitely accurate although there are some spots that lose a little nuance but the trade-off is it makes more sense in English and actually fits the pattern of the rap. He also strategically mixes English into a lot of his lines (not just this song), although he's so fast that it can be hard to pick up on the first few listens (I've listened to this one many dozens of times in the car). For example the line "Cheating, gifted, rough techniques, wanted" is actually "チート、gifted, 荒技、wanted" which is Romanized as "chiito, gifted, arawaza, wanted". R-Shitei is an astonishingly brilliant lyric writer and it's difficult to convey just how amazing if you don't speak Japanese. I would describe him as a true poet-musician. Dogen is another creator who teaches Japanese on Patreon and has most of his "fun content" videos on YT as well, and he did an analysis of Bling-Bang-Bang-Born- not the whole song but I think it covers at least the first verse. This is my favorite dance cover by YDK Apartment which has choreography that's just as amazing as R-Shitei's writing and shows what a pop phenomenon it was for a while there. Also, I definitely echo the recommendation for "Otonoke", that's another solid one. Others I've loved are "Itano Ueno Mamono" (but the Creepy Nuts MV for it shows him drinking shots of something and bottles of alcohol around and I'm not sure if that passes muster), "Mirage" and "Yofukashi no Uta (Stayin' Up Song)" both from the anime Call of the Night (both have some lyrics that are sexually suggestive and/or describe adult situations, like Mirage talks about a father cheating on his wife and going home to her and his child while hiding everything, so again not sure if that passes). Doppelganger is also amazing and has lot of interesting stuff going on, but I can't seem to find a good quality video that has subtitles.
