So first thing's first, no, Danny Motta can't really sing. I love him, but it's the truth. The reason why he overdubs the songs with his own voice in his reaction videos is in order to avoid copyright claims on YouTube. I think it's charming, I know some people who find it obnoxious, but it is what it is. The songs in this episode are amazing, it's one of the strongest episodes musically in a season that is absolutely STACKED with amazing music. Sera's Confession is incredible, definitely one of my favourites. Liz Callaway who plays The Speaker was Anastasia in the 1997 animated musical, and Odette in the 1994 animated musical The Swan Princess. She also originated Ellen in Miss Saigon on Broadway, amongst other theatre credits. I told you in response to Welcome to Heaven that there was a song in season 2 I was sure you'd like based on your reaction to that, and that song was Like You. Happy to be right, hehe! Back in season 1 when Charlie calls Lucifer to ask him to come to the hotel, there is a much memed line of his after they hang up where he goes, "My daughter wants to see me! Take that, depression!" So yes, Lucifer being depressed is explicitly stated in the show and not just subtext. Also, I think it's amazing that you recognise the whole "heaven is actually pretty toxic" thing because there are so many viewers of this show who fail to comprehend that. I had a discussion just the other day where I was saying how the whole punitive justice heaven and hell system is messed up and that's the entire point the show is trying to make, and people weren't seeing it at all, which... I weep for media literacy, it truly is dead when people are so unable to read subtext. Edited to add: I'd love to attend a stream of your reaction and I'd be happy to help you figure out how to set it up on Discord if that's the preferred platform (it might be; streaming copyrighted material to public platforms like Twitch I know can be a little tricky). Your Saturday mornings are my Saturday afternoons so that should be a pretty good time for Europe in general.

WELCOME!!! To the "season of BACKSTORIES!" This is gonna be one Helluva Ride! 😈 •Did you clock the "Jack the Ripper" reference? 🕵‍♂️ •Abel's halo being bent is probably a reference to his being beaten to death by a rock 🪨... •Lute's new prosthetic arm has Adam's halo around the wrist giving a hint to her obsessive/deteriorating mental state.... that and attending an important meeting still stained in angel blood...(yeah, that's not mustard) •Emily, Peter and Abel just ignoring Sir Pentious' clepto habit and increasing depression during their welcoming song was just willfully neglectful. Like you said "paint a face on". •Abel is so non-confrontational that he just let's Lute use his dad's old office as her own personal rage room. And HE'S they one chosen to lead heaven's army? Riiiiight....😅

I wouldn't suggest streaming the reactions to the episodes if I'm honest. I'm a bit concerned that it would be even more distracting... The way you do it right now is really good! You even moved back a view seconds after pausing which really helped.

Gravity was one of the songs released before the series for promo purposes. However, it also sadly was victum to the huge server hacking leak that happened in 2024 to amazon. Quite a bit of stuff was sold off from their servers, which did include audio, concept art, boards, and animanics(unfinished animation). Episode 2 of Hazbin s2 got completely leaks in rough animation/storyboard form including all the songs; though Gravity was the one that got spread around like wildfire. So unfortunately, Gravity was floating around for a year and a half-ish before s2 came out, likely one of the other reasons they released it as a promo. I love the songs from this episode, especially Sera's confession; I really enjoy the more operatic singing on display there, it's beautiful to listen too.

A bit of lore for you bc I know you like it. The speaker of god and other high angels are much like birds... very Goetia like. Viv has said in an interbiew that Goetia like Stolas are Lucifer' creation (in the same way Imps are Satan's creation or Succubi are Asmodeus' creation and so on), so he made them similar to what he knows of angels in heaven. And if you think about it it makes sense that the Sin of Pride made the very pridefull Goetias

"Sera's confession" made me ascending to heaven, btw, so so good

Abel is voiced by Patrick Stump

So, yes, Episodes 1 and 2 take place at the exact same time. I think it is less fake face on Heaven rather obliviousness and unwillingness to see anything wrong. Heaven is meant to be the perfect afterlife, if it ISN'T that means they need to reexamine everything about how reality works. So they are mostly ignoring anything that doesn't fit in with that view. It's also why nobody is noticing that Lute is going crazy. So, not going to repeat the points Delunatic said, but I'll disagree about willfully neglectful, I feel it's more as I said, that's not perfection, so they refuse to see it. Heaven has a LOT of self-reflection and growing up to do. The coolest minor detail is the mural over the bed Emily drew, it has accurate renditions of Cherri, Angel, Vaggie, Charlie, Husk, and Niffty, but then just a deer with yellow teeth and a monocle for Alastor, this is because she met Charlie and Vaggie, and saw Cherri, Angel, Husk, and Niffy in the bubble during the trial, so she knew what all of Pentious's friends looked like but Alastor. Tiny *TINY* detail, the confetti from the gun in "Like You" is Bi Pride flag colors, which is a reference to Pentious being Bisexual. So, if you didn't clock it already, Abel is Patrick Stump, the lead singer of Fall Out Boy, look "Like You" was the first song Andrew and Sam wrote with him in it, and they weren't understanding how to write for him yet. They learn over the course of the season. Also the Speaker of God is Liz Callaway, she's the "singing voice" of so many animated movies it's impossible to name them all in a comment! Lastly, "Like You" (and one of the songs from the next episode) got the songwriters in trouble with the animators, as they kept describing things and causing scene changes, and dropping other random imagery that then needed to be depicted in the animation. This was so extreme they had to be told to not do it again. Apparently they did do it again as a joke for a song that they never intended to use for a later season, that was more "name random things" than this song. Next Episode has one of my favorite songs of the season, and one of my least favorite songs. Can't wait!

I’d watch a Saturday morning stream for what it’s worth. But im located in Nj.

Kaisa Kullervontytär

I'm usually here right when you post because I live in Finland and my Saturdays are slow. Past two weeks I've been late because I was travelling last weekend and today I was playing Bendy and the Inkmachine (fun jazz score in that one!). Where would the live streams take place? I know many here likes Discord but sadly my brain is not compatible with the platform (sorry...). If Discord is the platform for that I hope the videos will still be posted here so I can watch afterwards then, too.

Kaisa Kullervontytär

I agree, actually. I really like watching these reactions as they are.

Rinnzu Rosendale

I have been waiting for your reaction to the absolute vocal flex 💪 of "Seras Confession". That song gives me chills every time.

Mokiki

I've seen Sam Haft doing interviews with a couple of content creators and I was wondering if maybe that was something you might try to make happen after you finished Season 2? I feel a conversation between you two would be very interesting to listen to. In regards to your comments about live singing. I fully agree. A studio version is always gonna be unfair to compare to. The singers will do multiple takes of a song and the best parts of each take are comped together. So even as a singer it must feel unfair to be compared to a cherry picked version of yourself.

I'm excited for our new community song! Just a few fun facts: Emily's voice actress was heavily pregnant at the time of recording 'Like You,' so she criticized her breath control. Abel is Patrick Stump, the lead singer of Fallout Boy. The Speaker of God is Liz Calloway, the voice of Anastasia and Odette in Swan Lake as well as many other productions.

Sage

I agree. But if you do want to rewatch the show like you've mentioned a couple times, I think streaming a rewatch would be fun! Then chat can speak freely without risking spoilers, too :)

When I recommend this show, I say HOLD OUT FOR SEASON 2. I love season 1 too, but season 2's songs are just banger after banger. The lyrics are tighter. They have better prosody (sentences matching the cadence of the rhythms and melody). The animation is cleaner and more ambitious. The jokes land more often. The pacing is still speedy enough to feed my ADHD hyperfixation, but it takes time to sink its teeth into some character development. There are still "blink and you'll miss it" details, but in S2 they're icing on the cake instead of major plot points that deserved more episodes. Vivienne Madrano has said in interviews that they took a risk by letting S2 chew on some of the material they didn’t get a chance to develop in S1, rather than going full steam into endgame setup. They didn't know if they would get a third season at the time. I think it paid off. 3 and 4 were greenlit together, so I'm excited to see what they do with even more breathing room.

“Sera’s Confession” was one of the songs from season 2 that sent me over the moon! It’s incredibly beautiful and the lyrics are so deep. This is why fangirl for Haft and Underberg. 😁

YanaBente

Honestly, it was after this song that Sera became one of my favorite characters and it just gets solidified later on. I love her voice and I love the complexity of her character!

YanaBente

I think in regards to gravity live on broadway, Jessica sang SO WELL but I was disappointed that all the rock instrumentation wasn’t live and thus took away a lot of the heft of the song. It would’ve been so cool if they had a bigger live band to back her up.

Jupiter

Agreed - though streaming rewatches would be fun!

Sha_Nyx

I feel like there's a comparison to be made with Lucifer, taking the form of a snake and convincing Eve to commit the original sin, and then Sir Pentious, being a literal snake demon, being the first to be redeemed.

Alissa Schell

Omg yes this would be amazing, I just watched Sam's interview with Danny Motta and I think that would be so fun for Tim to react to to get a little more background! Also Sam Haft has a series of tiktoks breaking down each song from Hazbin, I'd love for Tim to react to those as well

Alissa Schell

I LOVE Sera's confession, I was genuinely giddy watching you react to it and get as excited as I do!! Also you mentioned Encanto, I highly recommend reacting to it, or at least the music from it!! Soooo good, Lin Manuel Miranda is a god amongst men

cashette

Sara’s confession is my #1 hazbin song!!!

cashette

I’m so glad someone mentioned Liz!!!!

Not sure you'll see this anytime soon, since I am behind on these, but one theory about Lucifer is that during "More Than Anything" in the flashback to Charlie as a kid, he shows her a version of a duck that bursts into this big multi-winged thing. If you look at the design of the arch-angels, they have strong bird-iike features, so what if Lucifers arch-angel form resembled a duck and he's trying to recapture the feeling he had in heaven by recreating the imagery all around him?

SParks

Also, Danny isn't a singer. Or if he is, he doesn't show it. I think he's avoiding a copyright strike but dubbing over most of the songs. lol
