This is soooo fun! 🤩 Not sure how many parts it'll take since I didn't get as far as I thought in that one, but hey, I'm fine with it being as many parts as it takes if you all are.

I can't wait to get to the next part. I'm learning so much from this! Lots of new artists we need to check out. Thanks for the recs everyone!

Cover corp. parent company of Hololive has massive high tech studio in Japan. Most recordings are done there. It is full of cameras and talents do wear mocap suits so it is them dancing.

So to fill you in on some information. Hololive follows the japanese idol culture for their talents. So when they introduce new talents they do it in "Generations" which is a group of 3-5 talents at the same time. They all audition and do training together. This builds a comradery among each generation so that they feel comfortable with each other and can ask for help or do collabs together more easily as it can be scary when you start. Each generation has it's own name (Justice, Flow Glow, Advent) and is made up of individual talents who stream, make content and music by themselves and then occasionally each group comes together for group songs/projects. The exception to this format being Generation 0, these girls were the forerunners of the company and all started at different times for different reasons. Gen 0 also includes Suisei being she is the ONLY Vtuber in Hololive not created by the company. DEV_IS is a newer branch within the JP branch of hololive with the goal of doing the opposite. These girls are suppose to be a group who do group songs/projects more often while occasionally doing solo stuff. As for lingo, again following JP Idol, the word for "Bias" among Vtubers is "Oshi" for your favorites and "Kami Oshi" being the 1 above them all for you. The one you never miss a stream for. My Kami Oshi is no longer with Hololive, she now goes by the name Sameko Saba My favorite from this set is Genesis from Advent. It's just such a bop!

As a huge Justice/Advent supporter, I'm glad to see you react to this! If you enjoyed I have a couple of other possible ideas, Liz has a couple of great covers in Daddy Daddy Do and Skyfall, both done on a karaoke stream. Nerissa has a cover of Down By The River from Baldurs Gate that's gorgeous. Gigi's first original called I'll Still Be Here is incredibly emotional and touching (I recommend reading the description for context) I'm also looking forward to the next part!

Make as many parts as you want for it. Think most of us like seeing you do deep dives into the vtuber singers and are interested in seeing who you take a liking to with the Hololive girls and which generations you like the most.

Andrew

Another crazy thing is that Advent had a new cover come out a few weeks ago and Biboo did the screamo type singing for them haha

Fake Name

yeah I really want him to hear Breakout

Bossjoe

in time guys, in time we will have him do the Story of Advent

My favorite English generation is Justice, but I really like them all for the most part. Just some members more than others for the girls. For the JP branch, I like all the generations, but Kanade, the blonde girl from ReGloss is probably my favorite member. The Indonesian branch in general is my favorite. I really like all the girls because they are amazing singers, and they are incredibly funny and a little unhinged, but are really down to earth and caring and aren’t afraid to show emotions in streams, like with Ollie and Kaela. In general my favorite Hololive member is Ollie out of every branch now. It used to be Mumei until she graduated from the company.

Strongly recommend her cover of Skyfall as well, it's fantastic.

For ReGloss, I'd recommend their debut song Shunkan Heartbeat. It's a fun take on the group.

Going through Advent's catalog, Rebellion -> Sirens -> Prisoner -> Genesis -> Breakout, would be interesting to see how they've moved through styles and skill level over time.

hey so Tim.... what kind of eldritch beeing do I need to make a pact with to get you to do watchalongs of the upcoming Hololive Festival in full....... it's basically like the National Holiday for Hololive fans as they hold an entire convention in Japan dedicated to Hololive only, while ALSO having 4+ actual Live-Concerts and much more. These concerts being called the Hololive Festival. It's tradition for me to watch these all LIVE even if they're happening at 4AM for me haha. I think seeing these concerts would truly give you an idea of the scale of popularity, show how they're pushing the technology for the medium while also giving you a real impression of the talents, the variety and how everyone is given a chance to shine. Even if they're not your traditional singer they all have a chance up on that stage. I'm a huge fan of Hololive and what they're doing for the medium that is VTubing and would LOVEEE to see you dive even deeper into this rabbithole! The concerts are quite long if you add up all 4 of them but it'll be SO worthwhile I promise you that!

Andrew

Fun fact about Kanade, the blonde girl in ReGloss. She is actually Korean, but is actually fluent in Japanese. There are actually 3 girls in Hololive that are Korean with the other two being Kronii and Ina on the English side.

This last countdown was good for getting to know the gens, their members, and their original group songs since they separated the performances based on the generation and reverse debut order. Previous countdowns mixed things up, with talents grouped together by themes rather than debut order which created many interesting groupings. I recommend checking out the two before this one if you get a chance. Advent is my favorite gen, and Genesis is a fun bop. It's been interesting following Shiori and Biboo's journey as they've gotten more comfortable with singing.

I believe they're usually on-location for live concerts, rather than performing back in the home studios--the actresses are just in a back room or something rather than on the stage--they either choose specially-equipped concert venues or bring the equipment with them. Sadly, it's hard to get exact details on the "Making Of" process because Vtuber culture is so heavily into the kayfabe aspect (and the anonymity of both the actresses and the staff doing the work) that we don't get a lot of insight into it--kind of Muppets-like, in the way they try to avoid acknowledging the fact that the characters are fictitious works of technical acumen. Hololive / Cover Corp has some of the most advanced tech and most robust staff infrastructure in the industry (and probably by far the biggest budget), and it would be amazing to get actual Behind the Scenes documentaries from them, but the culture of the thing makes it pretty unlikely. Even the graduated members have so many NDAs that they can't really reveal much about the process to outsiders either.

They're on site for sololives, Fes, and the branch concerts. Basically if it's a paywalled stream, they are just behind the screen. We know where they perform thanks to Kiara's and Ina's duo live where they were shouting to the crowd without mics. Things like the world tour however is recorded.

you should look up hololive cover studio on youtube, there is a video touring the studio and explaining some of the tech used there.

Even in those performances, some, if not all the songs are pre-recorded to avoid issues. The only things we know for sure that are actually Live are the MC sections.
