Yet another amazing episode. Levi's badassery is more and more every episode! I love this so much.

she was healing, the steam is her body healing but healing takes energy and after she had just transformed for the second time she was exhausted on top of the fact Levi went all beyblade on her.She already used what little energy she had left to heal her left arm enough so she could stop Mikasa from capturing/killing her.Which lead to Levi injuring his ankle

Levi is known as Humanity's Strongest Soldier for a reason! He has pretty unique way of holding swords, he has a great control over his body and he uses ODM gear to spin himself like a beyblade. You can notice both Levi and his squad first went for Titan's eyes, I think it's a basic tactic that scouts use - to go for Titan's eyes or for legs first and then go for a kill by slicing the nape. So Levi and his squad blinded the Female Titan but only Levi succeeded. Why? Because Levi left his blades in her eyes which made it hard for her to regenerate them. Then he went for her legs to stop her from trying to run away and heal and then her arms, that she used to protect her neck and also could use to attack him. You can also see that to fly around and to slice her, Levi is using only trees but not her body. Since she's still trying to regenerate her eyes, she can't see where is he gonna attack next so she can't protect herself by hardening her skin. Mikasa on the other hand attached her gear to Female Titan's neck to pull herself to the area she was gonna slice and that gave her away. Titan probably felt it, because she still can't see Mikasa, but can predict her movements so she tried to get Mikasa. I think that short sequence really shows the difference between Levi's skills and experience and everyone else's

Attack on Tuesday! The Female Titan was almost out of energy, but Levi had no way of knowing whether she could still harden her skin or not and decided to play it safe and retreat. He injured his ankle saving Mikasa, so he couldn't keep attacking her that fast

Despite that Levi looks so cold, he genuinely cares for his comrades. In his first real introduction he stayed with his dying subordinate till the very end, in previous episodes when they led Female Titan to the trap, Levi was the one who acknowledged the death of all the soldiers who died buying them time and you can tell he hated that they had to abandon all the bodies, especially because bodies of his squad were there too. So what happened is there were a few buddies that scouts couldn't recover – its was too risky because of Titan presence so Erwin decided to put them in MIA list and leave. But two soldiers disagreed, they said it was their friend's, Ivan's, body and they need to bring him home to his parents. Erwin and Levi refused so those two soldiers got back by themselves and brought Titans with them. Only one of those soldiers made it, Dieter. After they got away, Levi came up to Dieter and gave him a patch and said it's Ivan's but it was actually Petra's (the redhead girl from Levi squad that died). Dieter failed to recover Ivan's body, so Levi couldn't possibly have his patch but earlier when scouts were collecting bodies we saw Levi next to the bodies of his squad, it zoomed in to the patch on the Petra's body (or I guess most likely Petra's). So yeah Levi clearly took the patch for himself to remember his comrades but gave it away to his subordinate just to make him feel better, even though Dieter caused them so much trouble. Levi is definitely my favorite character in the whole show. Also showing families of the Levi squad talking about them coming home soon was just brutal considering we know they won't

Hey Tim, watching your reaction to Levi's badassery was so fun, haha. I have seen the show before, but I am enjoying the rewatch as I never paid attention to the music, so I am enjoying all your comments on it, even the background music they add to their scenes. I think Levi made the choice not to get the person out of the female titan because he got hurt in that last move to save Mikasa. He made the choice to pick either objective: save Eren or try to get the person in the Female Titan. The Female Titan was beating them at every turn, so Levi didn't want to risk Eren and Mikasa when he wasn't 100%.

Marie

Levi saved Mikasa, but injured his ankle. He originally told her that their priority is to recover Eren not to kill the Female Titan. So when they accomplished their main goal to save Eren, Levi decided to retreat. She's tired and temporarily can't move so she probably won't follow them. But she can still harden her nape, they won't be able to kill her, to stay and try would mean to risk to give her time to heal and try to take Eren again. Female Titan can heal, harden and we don't know if she has any other abilities to pull out, Levi is injured, he can't move as well as before, Eren is unconscious, Levi doesn't really know Mikasa's abilities but he just had to save her because she disobeyed his order and he knows it's her first expedition (because he recognized her as Eren's childhood friend). So Levi had to consider all these factors and he decided it's safer for them to retreat

I love your double headers, but you might need to do a triple header, as there are three episodes left. You wouldn't regret it, but I understand your busy time schedule. So maybe do a single episode next week and a double header afterwards (if you can take the tension of waiting, after the next episode ;-)

list of reasons why they didn't 'deal with the female titan' more: 1. Levi hurt his leg here at 17:10 trying to save Mikasa, which also is why he couldn't fight those titan at 29:46. 2. they have to keep Eren safe first, it's too risky to fight while holding onto Eren 3. The characters don't know when and how fast the female titan can harden its skin. They can cut her arms and legs because (from what we've seen) the female titan seems to only prioritize using the skin hardening to protect her own neck. Things will turn out differently if they try to go for her neck. Mikasa literally almost died there when she tried to go for the kill. Yeah, maybe they could've kept going, but you know what also could've happen? They could all died there and got Eren taken away😅. The story already emphasized many times not get greedy with your objective- as you can see here they have to abandon even more bodies and more people died because these 2 (27:29) decided to take Ivan's body even when Levi and Erwin told them not to. also an interesting thing to notice: remember when Levi squad fight the female titan, she prioritize regenerate one of her eye first, which is why the whole squad got killed? Levi here 14:34 left his blade inside her eyes to prevent her from regenerating too fast. Small thing to show their difference in term of battle experience/instinct. don't blame you for not noticing things tho, I read this series way to many time in the past... The good thing about Aot is that the more you re-read it often the more sense it makes

When it showed the female titan sitting against the tree. She was actually crying, which is why Levi looked shocked.

My suggestions to make these reactions better. It would be sometimes fun to hear more of your thoughts and theories what you think is happening/going to happen in the story. I am excited about this react and I see that other comments are aswell. I think explaining things that were missed, misunderstood and forgotten is fine. Like I feel that you missed the last line of the episode. "It was decided that Eren was to be handed over." But I urge people to be carefull of spoilers/over explaining in the comments. It can be hard to explain and talk about stuff and separate the knowledge the viewer should have at this point and what they get later on. For the record I have not seen anything spoilery so far in the comments.

I don't think it's a spoiler to say that anime generally doesn't do season-ending cliffhangers. Since anime are seen primarily as advertisements for the manga, the 'next season' of an anime is almost never guaranteed, and often takes several years. AoT season 2 was done 4 years after season 1, for example. Because of this, I think the industry shies away from setting things up that might never be resolved. Which is not to say that there won't be unresolved questions after season 1 finished, heh.

DiezNote

Absolutely agree. It’s much more interesting to come up with theories yourself, think things through, and recall facts from previous episodes

DiezNote

Totally agree! The last 2(3🙏) episodes really need to be watched back-to-back

Attack on Tuesday!❤️‍🔥

I'd also like to add that what makes the decision of those two soldies even more tragic, and the loss of Levi losing his squad even more painful is that as a result of the titans chasing them: they needed to dump the bodies of their dead companions to avoid getting caught. The 3rd body they threw off was Petra's..... so that means Levi doesn't have anything to remember her by as he gave her patch away to make Dieter feel better. It's also implied on multiple occasions that he had fond feelings for her, ofc his entire squad too but I always felt he had a sweet spot for her and the dialogue of her father at the end implies that Petra likely felt the same way. This arc of the story has always been so painful to me as it teaches Eren to think and consider things more, rather than dive head first into danger- and to trust those around him.. Only for that lesson to essentially be a slap in the face when it ends up being the wrong decision in that moment.. And for Levi, he has such 100% trust in Erwin but due to Erwin underestimating and ''playing it safe'' in some aspects, the Female Titan got the better of them which ultimately led to his entire squad dying... Yet he remains composed and does what is right regardless of his personal pain. His faith is Erwin still remains because none of them truly knew what they were up against. It's such an amazing show and has so much tragedy at moments like these, but I think it's also what makes it so beautiful and thought provoking. As you Tim mentioned, these are VERY young people risking their lives for humanities salvation... Eren & his friends are 15 YEARS OLD towards the end of this season by the way.... which is absolutely insane when you think about it.. so much happen in such a short amount of time ;;

Everybody's already talking about Levi, but what I love about his character the most (except for his badassery, of course lol) is that he so obviously cares, just doesn't show it in the most conventional ways, like most characters do. It's the small things, like giving away the badge that he saved for himself to have something in memory of his teammates, to the guy that disobeyed direct orders and caused them all that trouble with the wagon. Or always being the first to mention the casualties and the importance of their sacrifice. Even at the very beggining, right after he beat the crap out of Eren in ep 14, he asked him "Do you resent me?" and after Eren said that he doesn't, he responded "That's good.". Obviously, Levi's still an asshole sometimes, but what I think most people do is mistake his composure for apathy/indifference. A lot of the time you can tell that deep down he's upset, but what sets him apart from other characters, is that he first and foremost prioritizes things that are in favor of the mission, and acting out on his feelings is often times not one of them. I could go on and on about this guy, but I don't wanna enter spoiler territory or dictate your interpretation, so I'll leave it at that! Super cool to see your reactions, as always :)

I guess this is the PTSD episode of AoT! 😬 I noticed that Petra kept showing up in the storyline - I’m wondering if her death affected Levi more than we know. And no, I’m not the one who ran ahead and finished season one early. I know someone did, I just don’t remember the cheeky rascal that did it. 😆

I find it funny how you were distracted by the music through out the season. It makes me wonder if the music fit with the series? It has been a while that I wonder what makes a good and appropriate soundtrack to a video game, a movie or a TV show. I hope you can discuss more about that with your experience in musical theater.

Those soldiers were incredibly selfish, going back for their dead friends body. Although I get why they did it. But in doing so, they caused further casualties, and all the bodies that could be retrieved had to be lost. Now no one gets to have their friends and family members returned to them. Incredibly selfish, and sad.
