Nothing is cut and dry with this show, the layers of complexity in the character and plot development is GENUIS! Loved these songs and this episode!

Ooh first comment! Okay, yes, you had roughly the same reaction to Losing Streak as pretty much the entire fandom. Ages before the season dropped Amir (Alastor's VA) teased that he had just heard a song from S2 that we'd be obsessed with because he is obsessed with it. It was Losing Streak. Shout out to Losing Streak actively making me a better singer because from practicing it and trying to emulate what Blake does, I have definitely improved my vocal agility and control. RE: Alastor's hand in Vox becoming what he is now. Without spoilers, I will just say that while some of the details and motivations might be different, Vox likely would have ended up a very similar person to who he is here had Alastor not shot him down so brutally (or at all). I personally believe Vox would have been angling to have the relationship he has with Val with Alastor instead, and Val knows it. There are parallels between those characters in how Vox views and interacts with them, and it's worth noting that he chose to force Alastor to sit in the rolling cuck chair and watch he and Val get it on. In episode 1, Vox is telling Val to stop hitting Angel and Val's response is "You're so obsessed with me" which is then mirrored by Alastor in "Don't You Forget Reprise" in episode 4 when Alastor sings "You're so obsessed with me, I knew you'd need me here to be...[etc]". Even in this episode, Val's jealousy is far more targeted towards Vox's focus on Alastor. Even his comment about waiting in the wings has the double meaning of not just being about having to be backstage during the rally, but also has the relationship connotation of waiting in the wings for someone who is interested in a different person. Vox referring to he and Val as partners 'in business' is also a direct parallel to his 'business' partnership proposal to Alastor in the flashback. He puts it all in the plausibly deniable context of a professional partnership but absolutely wants a more personal and intimate relationship from it.

Also, I could write a whole essay as to how, even though Charlie's heart is absolutely in the right place, she does a ton of damage to her business and her relationships pretty much as a direct result of it. And her pathological desire for approval. Nevermind the fact that she is WILDLY unqualified to provide therapy to anyone, and as we saw with Angel Dust in episode 3, actively does damage to the mental and physical well being of guests as a direct result of her over-investment and conflicting priorities. Angel is also an excellent example as to why just about anyone in hell would need a trauma-informed therapist, as trying to challenge some of the negative self-beliefs of Angel and his masking (and other defense mechanisms) could easily end up hurting him more as he is still actively being traumatised by the people and scenarios that caused him to develop those beliefs and defense mechanisms. Those negative beliefs are being reaffirmed every time he is around the Vees or a passerby on the street only sees him as an object. Anyway, sorry, I'm doing a wordy deep dive again. Loved the reaction, thanks!

I feel like Love in A Bottle and Losing Streak are amazing companion pieces. Love in the bottle talking about wanting to drown all his worries in booze, while losing streak talks about fighting to be better despite all the bad stuff. Always listen to them together.

Apparently, the dance Vaggie and Charlie do during ‘Easy’ is called The Devil’s Tango

This episode drop kicks you at very ending. Also I was waiting for you to get “Losing Streak”. I was so excited watching your reaction.

Cricket

I've been so excited for you to see these three songs because they're SO GOOD

Delunatic

Vox may seem less maniacal/evil but you gotta remember: he's in Hell for a REASON. Next episode should have his backstory and give a bit more insight to his M.O....

Okay! These are my three favorite songs of the season. I adore them all for multiple reasons! Love in a Bottle and Losing Streak are two halves of the same idea, and a continuation of Loser Baby thematically. And Easy is simply Vaggie getting Charlie to chill and let go. They are all so perfect and amazing! With the show, you asked, about Vox and Val, and we've seen them in bed already, and seen multiple times where it's shown they are more than business partners, but they are in a relationship. It is that Vox has trouble admitting he's in love. Even if it's only about sex, they are involved that way. More is coming, but it's getting more obvious that Val is getting jealous of the way Vox is reacting to Alastor. I completely agree with @Profclouseau about the triangle of Val, Vox, and Alastor. Only problem for Vox is Alastor is Ace and not interested. The bit about Vox being able to mimic others was shown in the flashback two episodes ago, when he perfectly mimicked Alastor. As for Angeldust being a spy, even on a re-watch it's hard to tell, pieces fit (Angel complains about a headache) and it doesn't feel too unpredictable for it. The line about being from Florida was an improv, and they kept it because it was so funny!

Poor Angel Dust just had every little bit of agency he thought he still had stolen from him. Before, he thought he could decide for himself at least outside of work, but now even that has been taken away :c

I know you aren't aware of Vox's backstory yet, but he *is* in Hell, so he already wasn't a good person. I'd like to point out that the flashback scene at the bar was only from Vox's point of view, and based on Alastor's body language, I think there was more to that scene than we currently know. (Alastor's VA even hinted at that being the case.) Yes, Alastor was an asshole to him regardless, but Vox's actions are still his own. He's *choosing* to be manipulative, exploitative, and violent, and none of that should fall on Alastor. I hope I'm not coming across as aggressive here. It's just that the way a lot of the fandom has reacted to that flashback has been very disheartening, so I cringe whenever I see someone suggesting that Alastor might be even a little responsible for how Vox behaves now.

MikeTW

Seconding your comments about Vox here. I'd also say that given the time when Vox was alive it's more than likely that he's got a little bit of internalised homophobia going on as well, preventing him from calling Val more than a business partner even though they're clearly a thing, though that may just be my interpretation.

MikeTW

Loved your reaction to this one, Tim! Especially cool how into it you got with Losin' Streak. I am also very much of the opinion that this was the moment Husk realised he'd caught feelings. It's all over his face. And Losin' Streak is one of my favourite songs of the season. Another reactor I follow called it "a masterclass in Jessica Rabbiting" which I thought was genius. Since I'm a little late with my comment today (been recording an EP with my choir this weekend so I didn't get to watch the video until now) most of the things I would have wanted to address have already been mentioned. As Jade points out, we've seen Vox and Val in bed and seen them flirt before now. I can add that they make out during the Finale song for season 1, though they're only on screen for a couple of seconds so it's easy to miss. Velvette also alludes to them having a thing in s1e2 when she refers to Val as Vox's "boy toy". Up until this episode, I also felt a little sorry for Vox. Not enough that I was ready to overlook his actions in any way, but yeah, Alastor was a dick to him way back when and seeing him so hurt did make me feel bad for him. But then the thing with Angel happened, Vox abusing him every bit as badly as Valentino does, and all that pity flew out the window. The disdain he shows, calling him a whore, all that... No. Vox doesn't deserve my pity. I was so angry after watching that.

It has been shown throughout the series that Vox and Valentino are in a romantic relationship with each other. So, when Vox said that "they have been partners... in business for decades", he was wanting to hide the fact that they are in love with each other. At the end of the episode, Vox got scared and confused because of the scream rain. That part had me confused at first too. The plot twist that Vox had been using Angel as a spy had me too. You don't see any signs throughout the show except for Angel having headaches. I love these songs! I found "Losing Streak" so mesmerizing and catchy. I couldn't wait for you to hear it as well the other 2 songs.

Profclouseau

Yes, there is DEFINITELY internalised homophobia in Vox. Also, I never got around to it on the prior episode, but thanks for linking your friend's tumblr post about the psychology of Alastor and Vox. I read a good bit of it before Tumblr tried to force me to make an account. I definitely agree with most of it, and it was a very interesting read. It's always interesting to read your comments.

SioGames

I think it would be really fun for you to check out the Helluva Boss albums with the stereo performance, mainly because there is a bunch of background songs that you dont really get to hear the full versions of and also some extended versions of songs that got cut off for the episodes sake.

I mean, Viv did say when the episode came out that Vox really did just have a crush on Alastor at the time, contrary to all the people who thought he was trying to be manipulative. It's one of the few times we actually see him being honest and vulnerable, so it makes sense that people felt some pity for him in that moment. I don't think it's wrong for people to suggest that Alastor might have played a small role in Vox becoming who he is today, even if that role was just keeping him on the path of manipulation and cruelty he was already on. Whether someone sympathizes with Vox or not doesn't change the fact that opening up to someone, possibly for the first time, and being brutally rejected and laughed at can play a part in shaping you. We also know it mattered enough to Vox for him to become hellbent on getting "revenge" on Alastor. If it hadn't played a role in shaping him, I don't think he'd still be so obsessed with Alastor all these years later. I also don't think pointing this out absolves Vox of his agency, or places all the blame on Alastor; it's just being honest. A sucky person was sucky to a sucky person, and they used it as motivation to be even suckier, lol.

For not laying any of the clues for the breadcrumb trail, I’m actually impressed by how seamless the reveal was as a viewer. I wasn’t annoyed by the lack of hints (Angel in the hallway with Vaggie being one of the few we got), and I actually found the twist fully believable and somehow earned. Normally, these kinds of twists that don’t feel sufficiently set up bother me. But this one just made so much sense that I fully bought and accepted it for what it was. I don't know how Viv did it exactly, but she made it work well enough to not feel unearned.

Now I'm truly late because I've been travelling this weekend (went to see my mum). But I've been waiting for this episode! It's my fave this season (even though Angel's fate makes me sad). I love to see Tim giddy about Angel and Husk! That's how they make me feel. 😅 I also love Charlie and Vaggie in this episode. Their dance scene reminds me of the dance scene in the film Adolescence of Utena. I feel like that could have been inspiration with the clothes and all, though never heard or seen Vivzie mention that film.

Torie

This episode did focus a lot on ships. Baxter and Niffty are spending more time together - he plays patty cake(?!) (he’s a freakin’ scientist!!) and he modified roaches so she can have a band. So sweet. Charlie and Vaggie successfully repair their relationship after their argument and Husk leaves his last drink unfinished and returns to the hotel because of Angel. Even that messed up nonsense between Vox and Val gets attention.

MikeTW

The same person wrote another one about Valentino as well, which was also very interesting. As a fic writer, I use other people's informed takes on characters' psychology and motivation as research, so I love reading stuff like that, it helps with my own interpretation. That includes comments like yours, so thank you for always writing such in depth and nuanced takes. :)

Rinnzu Rosendale

Wouldnt the bar flashback be Alastors POV since he was the one telling the story?

tothedistantstars

The scene immediately proceeding the flashback is a close-up of Vox's face, indicating it's his memory. We even see through Vox's eyes when he says he thought they were friends. (And Alastor's VA later confirmed that the flashback was from Vox's POV.)

Onigiri_Girl

Oh I know just what you mean. I love that movie and Revolutionary Girl Utena as a series. I love that she defies gender roles but also inside is just as feminine as she is masculine. I think Charlie embodies that too.

Onigiri_Girl

It was a complete plot twist for me too. Now, I can rewatch and notice signs but I also never picked up on it until the reveal. It wasn't a Murder She Wrote scenario where the main character solves the case with some piece of evidence the audience was never privy to. If you go back you can see the signs.

Rinnzu Rosendale

Oh I guess that makes sense. I just assumed it was Alastor telling the story since he brought it up and continued commenting on it after the flashback without Vox speaking. Did Amir say that? I never heard anything about that. Just a vauge statement about them probably remembering things differently on a ladies night interview. But VAs dont write the show anyway so anything he says is really just for fun. Could go either way I guess.

Redza

I cannot wait for your reaction to the next episode! So much happens and gets revealed towards the end

Chivahn // MerViking

While it's all so relevant to what's going on in the world right now, it's worth noting that while this season aired at the end of 2025, it was written and recorded in 2022-2023! When the last election was happening Viv posted about how insane it was that someone she wrote to be such a batshit villain ended up being so in line with a real person

Marissa

Your delight over Husk and Angel brings me joy. I love this whole cast but watching these two grow and connect is my favorite thing. 🥹
