Yes! I've been wanting this for ages. Now I only need you to watch Avatar: The Last Airbender and Lanterns from DC (if it continues to be peak) and then I'll feel whole. I remember stumbling on this film by accident when I went through a list of "well-made death scenes" in a movie magasine from Sweden and the way they described Archer's death seemed familiar even though I had never watched this movie before. I personally think it has enough action with purpose, has mature themes and characters that are complex but also feel real. I really wondered how you'd feel about Archer and you seemed to care for him more than I expected. Based on your letterboxd, you've only seen him in Titanic before. Jack isn't a very demanding role, this is a better acting-performance that earned him (and Djimon who played Solomon) an Oscar-nomination and it's one of those roles that shows what a great actor Leonardo DiCaprio is. It's said that Solomon got 2 million pounds from the diamond. In todays worth it'd be roughly 4.5 million pounds. While it's wrong to say that it's not much, he wouldn't be in like the top percentage of people. Archer made it pretty clear that the wanted to leave Africa to settle somewhere else and I assume, not doing any more smuggling. 4.5 million pounds would allow him to buy a nice house and living very comfortably but it's not like he'd be so rich that he wouldn't have any purpose or anything to do. And with his background, I'm pretty sure that he'd do anything to leave Africa and everything he had experienced there. I'm glad you liked it. Most people I've talked to that has seen it thinks it's a good movie but some people may find all the violence and rawness a bit off-putting. I think it's kind off refreshing to see a war-film that isn't about WW2 or some dystopian world. Also, this film is directed by Edward Zwick. He's the same director who directed The Last Samurai which leads one of your polls you put out two days ago.

Yes it’s a good film! I don’t think it was too violent imo I think they showed the right amount and a lot of it happens quite quickly. I agree it’s refreshing to see a film about a dark period of time that isn’t ww2
