A French Friday! Here’s the Full Watch Along for Patreon requested French film Cyrano de Bergerac. While definitely a romance drama, it’s also set around a war, so still somewhat fitting for this Memorial Day weekend. Enjoy… 🖤

CYRANO DE BERGERAC (1990) - Full Watch Along

Cyrano de Bergerac is a 1990 French period comedy-drama film directed by Jean-Paul Rappeneau and based on the 1897 play of the same name by Edmond Rostand, adapted by Jean-Claude Carrière and Rappeneau. It stars Gérard Depardieu, Anne Brochet and Vincent Perez. The film was a co-production between companies in France and Hungary. The film is the first feature film version of Rostand's original play in colour, and the second theatrical film version of the play in the original French. It is also considerably more lavish and more faithful to the original than previous film versions of the play.

Speaking of French movies and if you are willing to put up with subtitles I highly recommend Delicatessen and City of Lost Children. One is about post-apocalyptic cannibals and the other is about a clone kidnapping children to steal their dreams. Pretty sure it was the same director as Amelie for both.

Yes, "Roxanne" (1987) is a modernized version of Cyrano De Bergerac.

If you like costume period pieces like "Cyrano De Bergerac" and "Last of the Mohicans", then I would suggest these: "The Three Musketeers" (1973 version) "The Four Musketeers" (1974 version) Part 2, not a sequel "The Count of Monte Cristo" (2002 version) "The Lion In Winter" (1968 version) "Rob Roy" (1995 version) "Braveheart" (1995) "The Patriot" (2000) "The Three Musketeers" (1993 version) "The Man In The Iron Mask" (1998 version) "My Fair Lady" (1964 version)

One of my favorite films and now I've completed the experiance by seeing my favorite reactor watch it. In anyone else, the ignorance of the aristocracy's disregard for concerns about marrying family would have been annoying but, as with so many things, you made it charming and adorable. :-)
