This is kind of related. What’s your favorite film of Gene Hackman, or Anthony Hopkins?

Dave Beth

Genuinely excited about your Karate Kid reaction! You HAVE to watch The Great Escape too!

Joe Swenson

I liked your reaction! You are the first I've seen watch this. Hope you react to the Great Escape too, and can't wait for you to check out Band of Brothers. Best miniseries ever made. Not an easy watch but necessary in my opinion, like Schindler's List. The Great Escape I think will be an easier watch for you as they're downed pilots in a Luftwaffe POW camp so they're at war but not in combat. A pretty decent more modern movie set in a German POW camp is Hart's War with Bruce Willis, Colin Farrell, and Terrance Howard.

This was an excellent pick. I suggest another one, "Patton" (1970 George C. Scott, Walter Matthau). "Patton" is often mistaken for history. Coppola wasn't making an historical film with "Patton", he was constructing a character study of a man who comes along perhaps once in a millennium. I'm always struck by the parallels between George S. Patton and Donald J. Trump. Loved and hated, each of these men defined brief but crucial periods of history. Both figures are either vilified or canonized, but never simply dismissed with a shrug.

Mark Knight

Both Absolute Power, and The Edge are awesome.

If you notice at the top of the end credits, almost all of the main characters, except Generals Browning and Sosobowski, were still alive and served as technical advisors on the movie. Anthony Hopkins said in interviews that Johnny Frost kept telling him that a proper British officer would not hunch over and run, but should cross the street standing up at a normal walking pace, even under fire. Hopkins said that he couldn't do it. As soon as the machine guns started firing blanks, he would run as fast as he could.

I asked the question, but realized I didn’t answer it myself. Favorite Hopkins is definitely Silence Of Lambs. For Hackman I’m going to pick The French Connection. Predictable I know, but both are pretty flawless movies

Robert Redford has to be The Sting and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Benjamin Gerrald

This is based on a book, and is one of the more accurate war films. Not so fun fact - Dirk Borgarde who played General Browning plotted air strikes during ww2. He got leave late in the normandy campaign and went to paint a town. At first he did not notice it, but it looked like there a bunch of old soccer balls in an alley. Turned out this was a town he plotted for air strikes and he wiped out a bunch of kids trying to get to an air raid shelter. Those were their skulls.

I think you should do another gene hackman tribute movie its his most underated movie all time called. Extreme Measures with david morse hugh grant and more i think you would enjoy it thoroughly. Big fan love all your stuff hope you try it
