THE DEER HUNTER (1978) - MOVIE REACTION - First Time Watching

The Deer Hunter is a 1978 American epic war drama film co-written and directed by Michael Cimino about a trio of Slavic-American steelworkers whose lives are upended by fighting in the Vietnam War. The soldiers are played by Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and John Savage, with John Cazale (in his final role), Meryl Streep and George Dzundza in supporting roles. The story takes place in Clairton, Pennsylvania (a working-class town on the Monongahela River south of Pittsburgh) and in Vietnam. Hello everyone and welcome to The Coby Show! It was more emotional watching your reaction to The Deer Hunter than any time I’ve never seen it. I’ve never seen you so distressed. Even more so than your reactions to Saving Private Ryan and A Bridge too Far, or a couple of scenes in Close Encounters. I had to brace myself when some of the most shocking scenes were about to happen. Nicky kept winning at Russian roulette while he was unaware of what he was doing. When he started to come to his senses he lost. Of course him winning every time before that was for all intents and purposes mathematically impossible. The movie makes it seem believable enough that we suspend our knowledge of math. Is The Deer Hunter really your favorite movie? That statement surprised me. I love to see you do a recap video as you mentioned.

Amazing, and so gut wrenching. I wasn’t ready for it. I had to take some time to take it all in. DeNiro has to be the greatest actor of all time.

For anyone who liked this, I would recommend a couple of other movies. Coming Home with Jane Fonda, Bruce Dern, and Jon Voight, is a beautiful but very sad movie about PTSD. Dead Presidents is a 1990s movie about a group of Vietnam Vets who try to pull off a bank robbery. This movie is full of twists, and turns, and so well done.
