Blending psychological horror with film noir, the film stars Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rossellini, Dennis Hopper, and Laura Dern, and is named after the 1951 song of the same name. Hey Coby, hope you’re having an awesome day. I knew you’d love this. Good lead in for the next Twin Peaks episode. Can’t wait to watch it.

I still swear that the whole Lumberton thing was just a happy accident but it's such serendipity!

Thanks Coby, I had never seen this one. It's fun to see these performances from actors I was aware of from around that time. Not that you're lacking for recommendations but... I recommend "The Straight Story". Another one that is best to go into with as little info as possible.

You seeing Lynch as a painter more than other directors you love is in line with the fact that he's a true art-house filmmaker. If you like that elevated level of complexity and theme, try out more art-house directors. Here are some of my favorites: Ingmar Bergman Werner Herzog Lars von Trier Michelangelo Antonioni Nicolas Roeg Andrei Tarkovsky Andrzej Żuławski Michael Haneke.

I'd remembered the neighborhood as being more Edward Scissorhands... glad you watched and enjoyed this classic. I'm guessing that the implication is that the faucet handle or screw flies off under pressure; the descent into the grass, and later the ear, echo Eraserhead, which I recommend you don't watch. Your facial expression was as frightening as the ear.

I haven't seen this in years, and there's a lot I had forgotten. Now you've piqued my curiosity, and I have to go watch Paris, Texas.

Yes the man in the chair missing an ear was Don lol, I think you mentally blocked it out. Describing Lynch as a painter fits him well, I've heard his image described as moving stills. Another fav director of mine, Akira Kurosawa, also had that style. But Lynch is a surrealist so his imagery have a dreamlike quality to them. This is still early on, he gets deeper into the dreamscapes in his work as he goes on and you can no longer tell what's real, but you can see it starting here. And seeing this now, it's so clear that this was a young Dale Cooper prototype, as if he had this experience in a dream before becoming an FBI agent and going to Twin Peaks. Or maybe Jeffery is the one dreaming of being Cooper. So crazy.
