BLUE VELVET (1986) - MOVIE REACTION - First Time Watching

Blue Velvet is a 1986 American neo-noir mystery thriller film written and directed by David Lynch. Blending psychological horror with film noir, the film stars Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rossellini, Dennis Hopper, and Laura Dern, and is named after the 1951 song of the same name. The film follows a college student who returns to his hometown and discovers a severed human ear in a field, which leads him to uncover a criminal conspiracy involving a troubled nightclub singer. Are you the one who found the ear?

Maybe my favorite film from the ‘80s…

The theme of something vile under the surface of a beautiful town is one Lynch continued exploring in "Twin Peaks."

You are so locked in doing this! I like that you are selective when you choose reaction subjects. You have great instincts. This film was a life changing moment in 86 while I was in high school. You showed the same type emotions I felt then. Thank you for opening that window again.

I knew you were gonna love this Coby. I couldn’t agree more with you about the look of this movie. It is beautifully shot, and the colors pop. I feel like I might have heard you mention it, but have you seen Wild At Heart?? I think you’d like it. If by chance you’ve already seen it, I’m curious to know what you thought about it??

That is THE greatest Blue Velvet reaction I've yet seen. Fantastic. PS: His next movie is "Wild At Heart".....with Henry Dean! I hope you get around to that one! Blue Velvet is definitely his masterpiece of the 80s.

I forgot that Harry Dean was in Wild At Heart, until someone mentioned it in the comments. I haven’t seen it in ages. Same with Blue Velvet. Great cast. Lynch definitely liked to use the same actors a lot. And like you, I also was half expecting Dennis Hopper to say “Pop quiz, hotshot.” Who doesn’t love Speed? Dennis Hopper was so good at playing a lunatic. I remember him doing his Blue Velvet character in an SNL skit, but I didn’t realize at the time it was from this. Which reminds me, he did a movie that was shot in Australia called Mad Dog Morgan, apparently he was quite the handful during the filming. Looking forward to watching Twin Peaks episode 2 tonight.
