TWIN PEAKS S1E2 "Traces to Nowhere" - Full Watch Along

Twin Peaks - Season 1, Episode 2: "Traces to Nowhere" Twin Peaks is an American surrealist mystery-horror drama television series created by Mark Frost and David Lynch. It premiered on ABC on April 8, 1990, and ran for two seasons until its cancellation in 1991. The show returned in 2017 for a third season on Showtime. Set in the fictional Pacific Northwest town of Twin Peaks, the series follows an investigation led by FBI special agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) into the murder of local teenager Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). The show's narrative draws on the characteristics of detective fiction, but its uncanny tone, supernatural elements, and campy, melodramatic portrayal of eccentric characters also draw from American horror and soap opera tropes. Like much of Lynch's work, it is distinguished by surrealism, distinctive cinematography, and offbeat humor. The musical score was composed by Angelo Badalamenti with Lynch.

I love twin peaks but be warned that season two is a bit of a slog. But I absolutely love season 3, so the slog is worth it.

So glad you're sticking with this... it influenced all modern prestige television, but nobody's ever quite matched it, IMO because most shows now are trying to bring Hollywood-quality to TV whereas this was art-house cinema brought to TV with some Hollywood flair to keep it palatable.

I'm not actually sure where you would have seen Kimmy Robertson, the police receptionist. Honey, I Shrunk the Kids? Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead? A couple episodes of Ellen? I forget where else I've seen her, but I recognize her voice from the Tick animated series. And yes, everyone is a character and almost everyone has a secret. Even the high school kids are weird, apart from being played by adults in their 20s, most of them seem straight out of movies from the 50s. You did meet the guy at the end in the first ep, briefly, he was the off-putting psychiatrist who said Laura was his patient.

Love that you're watching this, this rewatch for me is a lot of fun this way. The man at the end is Dr. Jacoby, you saw him in Ep 1 meet Cooper at the hospital, he was quite odd. That's why he has Laura's tapes; we don't know who the "mystery man" is that Laura mentions. Twin Peaks is synonymous with coffee, doughnuts, and cherry pie.

Personally, I love "Twin Peaks" so I have no issue with you diving into these. Having said that... I wouldn't get too caught up in likes and dislikes. The vast majority of people are here due to your personality and reaction style. As long as you are genuine, that is all people really care about. It is much easier to be genuine when you are invested. So, I think "Twin Peaks" is a good fit especially since most of us who have seen it loved it, and I am sure those who have not will soon become ensnared as you have become. 😉😃 There have been a few signpost industry changing and zeitgeist altering productions over the years... "The Great Train Robbery" (1903), "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1937), "Gone with the Wind" (1937), "Seven Samurai" (1954), "The Ten Commandments" (1956), "Psycho" (1960), "Dr. No" (1962), "The Sound of Music" (1965), "Jaws" (1965), "Star Wars" (1977), "An American Werewolf in London" (1981),... "The Ed Sullivan Show" (1948), "Gunsmoke" (1955), "The Carol Burnett Show" (1967), "All in the Family" (1971), "The Simpsons" (1989),... and most definitely "Twin Peaks" (1990)! Rant over... now I think I am hungry for some Cherry Pie!! 😋😉

I hope you keep going with TP at least once a week. I had to watch the pilot episode again to refresh my memory. I don't want to have to do that every month.

Hey Coby, I'm 100% enjoying your Twin Peaks reactions and hope you continue with them. This is one of my favorite series -- even when it's not as great in the middle of the 2nd season. When you get there, just take a deep breath and let it be. I like to think of it as bonus content which today would probably just be released on YT. Also, if you haven't heard about it, there is a companion piece, "The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer", which was released in the summer between Seasons 1 and 2. If you're still interested at the end of S1 (and I expect you will), you may want to pick this up. Btw, it was written by Jennifer Lynch (David Lynch's daughter) and republished in 2017 for "The Return". Also, there is an audio book on Amazon read by Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer) herself! Update: I found a YT link with the audio book: https://youtu.be/sEgk2-4NPXM?si=yVINdsR2OA19pjCU

Like I said before not a fan of this series, but never finished watching it, I am giving it another chance as you are watching it. so I am along for the ride. Keep it going so I also do not lose track of who is who hahaha

Dana Ashbrook is Bobby. Grace Zabriskie plays Laura’s mom and was also Susan’s mom in Seinfeld.

You talk about how long you were looking forward to Twin Peaks, but you haven't watched Season 2 yet. What happened?
