ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (1981) - Full Watch Along

Escape from New York is a 1981 American independent science fiction action film co-written, co-scored and directed by John Carpenter, and starring Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, Isaac Hayes, Adrienne Barbeau and Harry Dean Stanton. The film, set in the near-future world of 1997, concerns a crime-ridden United States, which has converted Manhattan Island in New York City into the country's sole maximum security prison. Air Force One is hijacked by anti-government insurgents who deliberately crash it into the walled borough. Former Special Forces and current federal prisoner Snake Plissken (Russell) is given just 24 hours to go in and rescue the President of the United States, after which, if successful, he will be pardoned.

Part you missed about the tape was in the cab, Brain tells Cabbie "you traded the hat for the tape. Cabbie nods head with a yes. Remember the crazy hair guy had traded for Cabbies hat. Cabbie (Ernest Borgnine) I believe you know him from "The Poseidon Adventure" (1972) not sure if you saw "The Wild Bunch" (1969) or "The Dirty Dozen" (1967) Must see him in "Marty" (1955) great movie, must see.

Adrienne Barbeau, you would have seen her in maybe one of these three movies: Creepshow (1982) Swamp Thing (1982) The Fog (1979) or maybe not seen these lol

Cabbie traded his hat for the tape. Never ending Story guy had Cabbie’s hat. Brain asked where he got it and he said from cabbie. In the car, when cabbie pulls out the tape, Brain asks, “you traded your hat for the tape?” Cabbie says yeah.

If you have seen "You Only Live Twice" (Bond 1967) you would recognize the President. He says "Call me Plissken" to Lee Van Cleef's character (Hauk) because he always wanted to be antagonistic and contrarian to him. If Hauk said Plissken he would say "Snake" and visa versa.

Yea! This reaction was a pleasant surprise. ENY is my favorite Carpener/ Russell collab. Their first film togeter was an Elvis biopic for TV in the late 70s, before Carpenter made Halloween.

Classic movie to watch! Your studly little baby werewolf should love it…Russel played Detective Cash in Tango and Cash…I think actress Pussy Galore was in it too…lol

Kurt Russell and John Carpenter love westerns. That's the reason for some of the choices: 1. Kurt Russell's vocal style is a deliberate imitation of Clint Eastwood. 2. The line "I thought you were dead" is from the John Wayne western "Big Jake." 3. Lee Van Cleef (Hauk) was a famous western star and acted with Clint Eastwood in "For a Few Dollars More" and "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly." Also, Kurt Russell was married to Season Hubley (the woman pulled underground) and John Carpenter was married to Adrian Barbeau at the time, so it was kind of like an indie family production.

Escape from New York was filmed in 1980. NYC had recently undergone a severe fiscal crisis and had for some years experienced a dramatic rise in crime. I suppose that made the scenario of abandoning it and turning it into a maximum security prison seem more plausible at the time. Great reaction Coby, enjoyed it!

Sewer ewoks? LMAO! 😂♥️

If you like Kurt Russell you should check out Soldier (1998), one of his underrated but really good movies, and a sci-fi.
