Really excited for this one....John Cusack has made so many good films but this one passed me by somehow, so can't wait to watch it with you Coby x

Dave Beth

One of the best! Thanks Coby!

"One Crazy Summer" is the spiritual sequel to this with the same director and a lot of the same cast (including Cusack) that you'll want to see if you enjoyed this (came out a few years later and had a bigger budget too).

I’m gonna activate your dental plan!! Just one of the most quotable comedies ever

The French exchange student in this was one of the princesses in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, as well as one of the main roles in The Last American Virgin, a lost 80’s classic. Diane Franklin is still working, I’ve always enjoyed her in this. Ricky…..played by Dan Schneider…..the less said about him the better.

That was such a fun movie.... really enjoyed it. And most importantly I'm glad we could all watch it together with you Coby and help Dave celebrate his birthday 🍰🎁🎉

A friend of mine and I saw that for the first time in 87 or so. We had the, "I want my $2" thing going on for quite a while. It really is bizarre, but fun. Thanks for watching it, brought back some memories, probably been 20 years since I've seen it. - If you're looking for another Cusak... Grosse Point Blank...completely different, but maintains the somewhat odd aspect that most of his parts seem to have.

I’m glad you did a reaction to this one, Coby. This movie is so exaggerated, and absurd, and unlike anything else from this era. That’s what makes it so great. It’s one of the more unique comedies I’ve ever seen. You said you have a ‘68 Mustang. That’s awesome! I love muscle cars! You’ve got to post some pics! Was there a better era for cars than the late 60s?

Coby you keep wondering what was on Ricky's mom face, you forgot that her face blew up at the dinner table so her face had bandages on it. Such a crazy movie.

The boy who played Ricky, is the infamous Dan Schneider. The creepy creator of Nickelodeon shows like Drake and Josh, etc. The director also directed another zany film called One Crazy Summer. It also has Cusack, Demi Moore and Bill Murray’s other brother.

I grew up loving this film (among many other fun ones). Since you enjoyed this, I recommend “Accepted” if you haven’t see that yet with Justin Long. It’s a tamer modern version of that style with some fantastic scenes and laughs.

The thing to keep in mind when watching absurdist humor is that there's not much point in trying to figure out what's real and what isn't, or how something makes sense. Even the writers probably don't know which bits are real. It's like trying to figure out why that ticket is smoking in the movie "Airplane!" The answer to the question "Why?" is that "It's funny!" You should definitely watch the equally funny "One Crazy Summer" by the same writer and director, Savage Steve Holland. Written with the same absurdist humor, it stars John Cusack, Demi Moore, and Bobcat Goldthwait, as well as some actors you'll recognize from this movie.

Allegedly, John Cusack hated this movie and walked out of the screening. I think he got over it.

The filmmakers used a professional stunt skier, Mike Doyle, to perform the sequence of skiing on one ski. Doyle was a competitive freestyle skier who was skilled enough to actually ski with just one ski down a steep run. The production team filmed him for the action shots, while close-ups cut back to Cusack for continuity.

Awesome film
