The last of the Christmas classics for this year… My very first “Christmas Carol”, so I started with the 1938 original. I’ve since heard that the 1951 version is apparently the most loved and “definitive” one, but we’ll have to save that for next year! Hope you still enjoy this one. I did!!! Reaction highlights to be released on Friday December 26th. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!!! 🖤🎄

A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1938) - Full Watch Along

A Christmas Carol is a 1938 American fantasy drama film adaptation of Charles Dickens's 1843 novella of the same name, starring Reginald Owen as Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who learns the error of his ways on Christmas Eve after visitations by three spirits. The film was directed by Edwin L. Marin from a script by Hugo Butler. It was June Lockhart's film debut, the beginning of her lengthy career in cinema.

Merry Christmas Coby....and I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for everything... You have made 2025 so much fun, you've brought smiles, laughter....and tears into all our lives and I couldn't imagine how my 2am to 3am timeslots would be without you and everyone in the most wonderful community on YouTube and Patreon....( although I can picture myself with less bags under my eyes 😂 ). You've made this year special and I can't wait for 2026 and all the incredible reactions and moments you have planned for us all. We've all had bad days and we've all had dark days but you have continually brought sunshine into all our lives....so thank you... from me, and on behalf of everyone single one of us, thank you. You're awesome...we love you and our lives just wouldn't be the same without you in it ♥️. ( And, yeah, yeah....we all know that Cash is the true superstar of your channel, but you've been a superstar too. ) Wishing you and Cash the merriest and happiest Christmas and hoping that 2026 brings you everything you have ever wished for... I personally will be wishing your YouTube channel continues to thrive and hits a million subscribers and that your acting career soars....( I'm also wishing that if you win an Oscar, that I get a mention in your acceptance speech as I wished for it for you first ).....love ya .... ☃️🎁🎄❄️🎅🛷🦌🕯️👼⭐

Whew. OK, at least you avoided the almost-comical 1935 original talkie version from Twickenham Studio in London. (In that version, at one point walking through his darkened house, Scrooge almost gets conked on the head by a plastic bucket that was carelessly left by a stagehand and falls from the rafters. This is 1840s London. And a plastic work bucket has fallen into the shot, nearly hitting Scrooge in the head. And no one yelled "Cut" and the scene just proceeds. It's hilarious.) This 1938 version was Hollywood taking it's first big stab at this story. Big budget, big studio, shoot it professionally. It's totally competent, totally solid. My main complaint about it is that it's a little bit too sunny and happy. Reginald Denny's version of Scrooge isn't mean and dark and horrible enough. Otherwise, though, it works! A few years ago I reviewed all the various versions, and my own ranking of them: 1. The 1984 version with Geoge C. Scott, David Warner, Roger Rees, Joanne Whalley, and Edward Woodward. 2. The Muppet Christmas Carol 3. Mister Magoo's Christmas (if you can get past the fairly awful ableism that allows a cartoon character to be made fun of for a disability, this effort was one of the last things produced by the wonderful UPA animation studios who went all-out in this effort, and features what is an absolutely legendary soundtrack/song list by the amazing Jule Styne. )

Fun! My personal favorite version is Blackadder's Christmas Carol, where he starts off as the kindest man in Britain...

Muppets version is my favorite!

Merry Christmas, Coby!! Great reaction. I’ll always think of Scrooge’s former business partner as MC Marley. I agree that a lot of the acting was over the top, but for some reason it didn’t bother me. The book follows up on Tim’s story, but doesn’t explicitly state what he was suffering from. Also, love the screencap used for the thumbnail❤️

Merry Christmas, Coby and Cash 🎄🎅 🎁 I haven't seen this one in ages. It was better than I remembered.

Coby Merry Christmas and Yes Scrooge McDuck is named after Ebenezer Scooge. Bah Humbug, means nonsense with Scrooges extra grumpiness. hahaha, I enjoyed seeing this one again, I like the 1951 version best, I think. The Muppet Christmas Carol is also great hahaha

Merry Christmas Coby and Cash! I'm new to the channel and enjoyed this reaction a lot. I get the less than stellar reactions to this version - it ranks somewhere in the middle for me. It has its moments: Fred is jovial and animated, and Fan/Fran is bubbly and warm. But it does have its problems. For a poor family, Mr. and Mrs. Cratchit don't look the part. Also, Reginald Owen as Scrooge is a bit too gruff for my taste. I prefer the more subtle style of Alistair Sim, in the 1951 version (my favorite). The Lockharts were husband and wife and two of their children are in the movie. One of them, June, was the mother on the Timmy and Lassie show, and was the mother of the space family Robinson on the 60's sci-fi series, Lost in Space. She recently passed away at the young age of 100. Looking forward to next year's 1951 version reaction!

I know this is really late, but I wanted you to know how extremely thrilled I was to watch this my favorite Christmas movie and you did my late wife’s favorite two Christmas movies too, Miracle on 34th Street and It’s a Wonderful life!! These meant so very much to me especially at Christmas this year!! And lost my wife in January 2025 and 4days before last Christmas my house and almost everything I owned was destroyed in an electrical house fire! I’m sitting in a hotel room alone for Christmas and then I found your reactions to our 3 favorite Christmas movies and I loved all of them as I truly love you and Cash and all your fun and incredible reactions!! I think you are amazing and I notice how you recognize everyone and truly impressed when you recognized Powers Booth and all the other cast members in Tombstone!! Please never stop!! I love you! Thank you for everything ♥️🌹
