THE DEAD ZONE (1983) - MOVIE REACTION - First Time Watching

The Dead Zone is a 1983 American science fiction thriller film directed by David Cronenberg. The screenplay, by Jeffrey Boam, is based on the 1979 novel of the same title by Stephen King. The film stars Christopher Walken, Brooke Adams, Tom Skerritt, Herbert Lom, Martin Sheen, Anthony Zerbe, and Colleen Dewhurst. Walken plays a schoolteacher, Johnny Smith, who awakens from a coma to find he has psychic powers. The film received positive reviews. The novel also inspired a television series of the same name in the early 2000s, starring Anthony Michael Hall, the pilot episode of which borrowed some ideas and changes used in the 1983 film. I’m looking forward to it Coby. My favorite Christopher Walken movie is The King Of New York. Have you ever seen Communion? That’s not one a lot of people know about. You should definitely check it out sometime.

There’s also a tv show with Anthony Michael Hall as Christopher Walken’s character, Johnny. It was actually quite good. Ran for 5 or 6 seasons. It’s a great movie though! I like the early Stephen King adaptations. Cujo is another great one.

Does this mean we can finally watch Joe Dirt?! 🙏🏼😅

The book is fantastic, one of King's best (and in the early batch of Shining, Carrie, Salem's Lot, etc). The movie, however, was a total disappointment, unfortunately. The book is definitely worth reading, though, and has a similarity in style to "The Shining", writing-wise. Way more eerie and effective. This just seemed like a cheap mid-80s job, I remember sitting in the theatre completely let down. Tried to rewatch it recently, had to shut it off after forty minutes. Now for a GREAT early-80s Stephen King movie: CREEPSHOW! 1982. Same year as The Thing and Poltergeist.....just as classic! Pop that one on your list for sure! Fantastic cast!
