For someone that says they don’t do sequels, I feel like I’ve been doing a lot of sequels lately… haha. But this was SO worth it. I can’t wait to eventually round it out with the third installment. Reaction highlights will be in May while I’m actually in Paris - Thought it might be fun to do French month! 🖤

What a thumbnail!!!

If Before Sunset is about emotional honesty blossoming, “Sex, Lies, and Videotape” is about emotional honesty detonating — and it’s the film that made intimate, talk‑driven movies like the Before trilogy possible. When he finished the script, Soderbergh didn’t expect much. He assumed it might end up as a small video‑release résumé piece. Instead, it premiered at Sundance, won the Palme d’Or at Cannes, and ignited the 1990s indie film revolution.

Skip the third installment; you've now seen the best.

I was thinking, how could she forget that? That's such a hit to a man's ego. I knew she was lying.

DEFINITELY go straight into the last film. It's everything you want in the way you least expect it.

Based on the way she looks at him last minutes, by her using the word “baby” in her last sentence, and of course his laugh and happiness I always assumed they end up together. I’ve watched these movies so many times but never been able to watch the 3rd one. I know what happens just don’t know why I haven’t watched it yet.

I have seen this confused reaction to the ending of the movie many times and I have never for a second understood it. When Celine says "Baby, you are gonna miss that plane," and he says, "I know," it's not only the best closing line of a movie ever, it's totally clear what happens next; he's spending the night, will wake up with her in the morning. They're going to continue their relationship. I don't see why there is any confusion about that. Did you see the way he's fiddling with his wedding ring? The marriage is over. The lyrics to the song, "Just in Time," by Nina Simone parallels exactly what is going on between the pair. Also, the guy in Celine's courtyard in the shorts is Julie Delpy's actual father, the woman with the casserole is her mother. Other useless tidbits of information: the ending of Before Sunrise features all the places they had visited during their journey; Before Sunset begins with all the places they will be visiting. Also, Julie Delpy sings both the opening and closing songs of the movie. I think she might have written both, too, but don't hold me to that.

There has been talk about a fourth installment of the series, but Linklater's original idea for it - Celine dies - was rejected out of hand by Julie.
