DIRTY HARRY (1971) - MOVIE REACTION - First Time Watching

Dirty Harry is a 1971 American action-thriller film produced and directed by Don Siegel, the first in the Dirty Harry series. Clint Eastwood plays the title role, in his first appearance as San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) Inspector "Dirty" Harry Callahan. The film drew upon the real-life case of the Zodiac Killer as the Callahan character seeks out a similar vicious psychopath. Hello everyone and welcome to The Coby Show! Thank you Coby.... great film with a perfect reaction.

Great movie and great reaction. Like I stated in the other watch along about this. Eastwood taught everyone how to be a cop. Every single cop movie copied this formula. Kind of like how every action movie after Die Hard, copied that. There is probably only 5 movies that Eastwood has been involved with that I didn't think were worth watching. I've seen all his Dirty Harry movies dozens of times.

Just got home and getting ready to watch this now. Eastwood at his very best. Thanks for reacting to this Coby.

A classic. Dirty Harry was responsible for popularizing the .44 magnum cartridge. Guys like Elmer Keith have been hot-loading cartridges for years, trying to get more power. The .357 magnum (basically a hot-loaded .38 special, with a longer case to prevent accidentally loading it in a gun only meant to withstand .38 spl) was developed because law enforcement had trouble penetrating cars with their issued .38 special revolvers. The .44 magnum, on the other hand, was developed as a self defense round... with the provision that you need to defend yourself from a charging bear. For an ordinary citizen, or even law enforcement, the .44 magnum was entirely overkill, especially when .44 special, and .45 acp were already an option (Indy uses a .45 acp revolver in Raiders of the lost Ark). But the producers of Dirty Harry wanted inspector Callahan to have an iconic weapon, and so they opted for the S&W Model 29 (which wasn't selling at the time, and after the film, demand skyrocketed). Interestingly - in the first Death Wish (1973), Charles Bronson uses a .32 revolver (Colt Police Positive), but by Death Wish 3, he disses the .44 mganum with his .475 Wildey Magnum.

You referenced ZODIAC and this is SCORPIO; now pretty-PLEASE - with sugar on top, WATCH "SUMMER OF SAM" !! It contains ALL the ingredients you want in a great flick set in 70's New York. Thank me later for introducing you to one of your new favourite films.

Lethal Weapon is a lightweight cartoon version of Dirty Harry for the 80's if you think about it.

Hi Coby, I'm glad youre going to continue watching the Dirty Harry series of movies. There are 4 sequels, Magnum Force, The Enforcer, Sudden Impact and The Dead Pool. They're all filmed in San Francisco, an amazing setting. I dont think it was so expensive to film there back then, compared to now. Sudden impact was also filmed in Santa Cruz. Sudden Impact was probably the most famous of the sequels, but personally I prefer Magnum Force. Anyway, theyre all good, so youd do well to watch them in order, which would put Magnum Force next!

After you enjoy the Dirty Harry series and want more Clint Eastwood, it’s time for the spaghetti westerns that launched Clint into stardom: - Fistfull of Dollars - For a Few Dollars More - The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. I think you’ve already seen the unofficial 4th entry into the “man with no name” series, Unforgiven - if you liked Dirty Harry and William Munny, you'll love the man with no name westerns (even though he has a name in all three movies). Oh, and "Play Misty for Me" was Fatal Attraction before Fatal Attraction, and a great first directorial effort from Mr. Eastwood.
