Sam had the opportunity to speak with two members of Warrior Sisters, a nonprofit for empowerment-based, women-centered self-defense education. They discussed martial arts vs. self-defense, removing hierarchy from martial techniques, stereotypes of what self-defense is vs. evidence-based reality, creating an inclusive space, and how self-defense isn't always physical but about space, power dynamics, and horizontal violence. This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in self-defense (especially those interested in starting their own nonprofit program), martial arts, or those looking for practical concepts during these dangerous and trying times.

50 – Women's Self-Defense & Horizontal Violence w/ Warrior Sisters

*This is a rebroadcast of an episode from December of 2019 Since we're a podcast run by politically left martial artists (hence our name), thought we'd share some social justice oriented reasons for training martial arts (besides self-defense paranoia and competition) that should be acknowledged and encouraged. We can't continue to produce important episodes like this one without your solidarity. There is no Southpaw without your financial support. In return, not only do you help produce the show but you also get access to more great content. It's mutual aid.
