This arc is one of the longer ones (either second or third longest from what I remember), and I believe there's 27 episodes left of it so it's just kicking off. A whole lot of craziness is gonna go down and nearly every major character will be getting their moments. I'm not good at these tease things...I guess it's not really a spoiler to say that Lucy will really have her time to shine at a point in this arc which I know a lot of fans love.

Jellal is fighting them at least partially because he feels responsible for everything they have done, and how they became villains. Since if you remember, they all grew up in the tower of heaven which jellal controlled.
