It didn’t come out with the rest of the season because it was a bonus chapter in the final volume. Production was already too far along on the season to include it.

The handshake at the end seems weird but it’s actually a reference to to their conversation at the end of the season and to the theme of the entire show: “if we keep extending a helping hand, it will matter”

It just felt like a waste of time to me

I actually think delaying this episode a few months fits with the whole vibe of the episode. It puts us - the audience - in a similar position to the characters. Getting together after not seeing each other for a while.

There’s a little bit of nostalgia and melancholy because this is likely the last time we’ll see these characters. At least for a while. It wasn’t a strong response but I felt something watching this episode.

The vibe of this episode kind of reminds me of the final scene of the final episode of Star Trek The Next Generation. “I should have done this a long time ago.” If you know you know.

There’s an ending and closure but also a feeling that the story will go on even if we don’t see it.

I also think the start of Izuku and Ochaco’s romance being so low key actually works for me. Neither of them really now how to be in a romantic/sexual relationship so for the starting point to be they just want to spend more time together feels right to me.
