Amber, A great start into the live concert genre. One that is a classic is U2: Under a Blood Red Sky @ Red Rocks. Hope that is added to the list…

Hell yeah, let's go The Who always put a lot of energy in their performance. Great Pick 👍

Patt SanKings

Roger Daltrey is the lead singer.

Debra

This has got me feeling nostalgic. Saw The Who live in 1976 at the Seattle Center Coliseum (now Climate Pledge Arena). Keith Moon was still alive at this point, but by 1976 he was in his final years playing with the band. I've not seen this particular footage. They played songs even I've not heard before.

Thomas McGlinchey

Another great live album/music-mentary is Rattle & Hum

robbob

I get exhausted watching Keith Moon play.

Meryl Lim

The Who performing at The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus has great version of A Quick One (While He's Away). And yes, Keith Moon is a mad man.

Debra

Yes, instrument destruction was a big part of 60s rock and roll, and the Who were among the first to display it. Another thing popularized by Pete Townshend is the windmill guitar strum (although he credits Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones as the original source of that move). I don't think you saw it here, but with the windmill strum Pete is swinging his arm in a big circular motion, slapping the guitar strings on the way down. He actually injured himself doing that in concert at least once. (The concert I'm thinking about happened here in Washington, but I didn't see this show.) The guitar's whammy bar got caught between a few of his fingers. He left the stage and headed for the hospital. Fortunately, the injury was not too bad. The rest of the band, however, returned to the stage without Pete and performed a couple more songs for the encore. The show must go on!

Was going to see U2 in Sarajevo in '97 while deployed there for Operation Joint Endeavor. Then they told us, "No weapons." < No thanks, that dog won't hunt I told the MWR folks. My men and I go nowhere without our weapons. < Then we guess you're not attending? < You can count on it. We could hear the concert all the way to Freedom Radio on Goat Mountain. Was alright. Not their best.

I love watching the stagehand scrambling to save equipment at the end of the set. A couple of suggestions for concert movies are Nirvana Live at the Paramount (In Seatle) from 1991 and Talking Heads Stop Making Sense from 1983. I saw Nirvana a day or two before this show was in Vancouver BC, Canada.

Thomas McGlinchey

It was about the unity of the Sarajevans that’s why weapons were not allowed. The people of Sarajevo just went through a 4+ yr hostage war in which the people of the city were tortured by Milosevic and his authoritarian regime. It was U2’s music, such as One and other songs that were pro-unity that got the people through those tough times. U2 has never and will never be pro-violence or any form that may incite violence. I highly suggest watching the documentary called “Kiss the Future” in which it revolves around the people that lived in Sarajevo during that time and how they survived and were relieved that U2 kept their promise from the ZooTV tour of playing in a unified Sarajevo.

Thomas McGlinchey

No, but in a time/society that we live in, a band that is pro-unity and society coming together is a nice change of pace. Rock n Roll doesn’t have to be about sex, drugs and rock n roll. They also are the biggest band out there today… on other reactions like the Tiny Desk’s I have suggested Leslie Odom Jr, Jill Scott, The Roots, Eve… I span the gambit from Frank Sinatra to U2 to Christina Aguilera, etc.

So, you're a U2 Superfan, got it. BTW, already watched this when it aired. I'm this interview old.😁

Nooooo. Should have been jimi/otis at the Monterey Pop festival. Also watch the movie "Monterey Pop", it covers the whole concert. The best live lp to react to? Murray the K Xmas show, 1964, Live from the Brooklyn Fox. Chuck Jackson, Ben E. King, The Drifters, The Shirelles, Dick & Dee Dee, The Shangri-Las, Patti LaBelle & the Bluebells, The Vibrations, Dionne Warwick, The Zombies, The Nashville Teens, and The Hullabaloos. Live shows can be amazing. Don't skip Wattstax. Now let's talk about Sam Cooke. "Sam Cooke's famous Miami album, titled One Night Stand! Live at the Harlem Square Club, 1963, was recorded on January 12, 1963, at the Harlem Square Club in the Overtown neighborhood of Miami, Florida. Key Album Facts The Recording Location: The Harlem Square Club was a bustling, 2,000-capacity nightlife venue located in Overtown (then known as Miami's "Little Broadway"). The Shelved Release: RCA Victor originally intended to release the record immediately under the title One Night Stand. However, label executives buried it in their archive because they feared Cooke's raw, sweaty, and raspy vocal delivery would damage his smooth, mainstream pop image. The Official Release: The tapes were finally unearthed and officially released in June 1985. It is now widely praised by music critics on NPR and Rolling Stone as one of the greatest live albums ever made."

Thomas McGlinchey

Doesn’t matter if it’s old, it still stands true… the U2 crew is only living band to have all its original members still playing together, love them or hate them, you can’t deny their impact on music…

Amber Reacts

It was so funny to realize he was trying to save equipment

SGT Rock's Headbangers Ball

Yeah, no....that's not true at all. At best...U2 is a massive legacy band! A nostalgia act, homie. Their last album, it wasn't even new material. But as long as it has the U2 name on it, it'll go platinum. U2 is the biggest thing out there. What a crock o' shit! Yeah, there's more music out there than the Tiny Desk as well, hell, I suggested 311's episode, but I don't expect Amber to jump through hoops for anyone here. Other rock and metal artists she could check out on the show as well, if she wants. Bush, Foo Fighters, Goo Goo Dolls, GWAR, Mannequin Pussy, Militarie Gun, Napalm Death, Nova Twins, Paramore, Pulp, Robert Plant, Soul Glo, The Doobie Brothers, Thou, and Turnstile. But ya know what I'd rather suggest she watch, is their live performances at the music festivals they've played or their videos that showed on MTV/VH1. All music festivals have these artists as booked talent. To include, the band you're a superfan of. Do you really think that Rock and Roll is all sex and drugs. Man, do you even know the genre? It's not all dope, sex and booze, man. You even know the term, Straight Edge?

Thomas McGlinchey

Yeah because the Stones, Bob Jovi, etc. aren’t considered nostalgia acts at this point… U2 just put out 2 6 track EP’s, and 2 new singles within the last 7 months, plus is expected to put a new album out by the end of the year. Check the stats, HOMIE, U2 has sold the most tickets of any artist going today (by 800k) according to Pollstar… and they haven’t had tickets sold since the close of their Sphere residency in March ‘24… Absolutely, it’s whatever Amber is feeling to listen/watch, never going to fault her or make any demands, just can only suggest and give her some great suggestions that are outliers of regular suggestions. I’m gonna support Amber no matter what…

Dustin Kahan

YES under a blood red sky is amazing. Also U2 Go Home Live At Slane Castle 2001 worth at least one viewing

Thomas McGlinchey

Or 360… the fact that they put concerts on YouTube for free was wild (during the pandemic) and 360 was the first fully live-streamed concert on YouTube (back in 2009) and to celebrate 20th of HTDAAB (2004) they have their Vertigo show up currently for free viewing… not many bands would do that…

Drew Bolyard

Great reaction... Keith Moon was insane! Monterey Pop 60 year anniversary next year- down at the fairgrounds just about 6 miles from here!

bo cantrell

Ozzy live at the budokan 2002 is a great show to check out
