once again it's my legal obligation to suggest Maus

Iain Pryde

It's sooooo good. I don't know if I'm ready to cry over Maus again yet though.

Going in I was torn. I absolutely believe the awful truth of the historical treatment of LGBTQ+ people needs to be told, it's vital to rememeber it. Then on the other hand, I'm sick of the endless retcons to jam in some new continuity or canon. Especially adding in LGBTQ+ issues to an established character. It often feels ham-handed or worse... like an afterthought. But it makes sense to use Alan Scott, he's a high(er than a new character) profile character and of that time to tell a story of that awful history that hasn't been told enough. Really like the art. The colouring is doing some heavy lifting, it really brings so much in the parts where its just Tormey and Herms. Echoes of watchmen and doomsday clock in bits of the story. Thought from issue 2: If the crimson lantern isnt johnny I'll eat my favourite hat. This gave me a visceral emotional reaction of discomfort when Alan and Johnny (or his other paramours) were together and being careless. I was very scared for what would happen to them if caught. F%*@ J Edgar Hoover. F%!& the FBI. And F%*! the CIA while I'm at it. I did not have to eat my Eagles 2006 Tour baseball cap (my favourite hat) Suggestion for next poll: Marshal Law by Pat Mills & Kevin O'Neill

How about, since it's perfect for what's to come: Brubaker/Roimondi "The Books of Doom". My favourite ever ever comic run. Emotional, dark, deep, simply perfect.
