Tier IV Reward for Fox118
Prologue
“And I’ll just need your signature. That’s all!”
“Uhm, alright.”
Fox glanced over at the small parcel clutched in the paws of the perky golden retriever in front of him. She smiled at him primly, baring her teeth in a manner he was sure was intended to be friendly but the intensity of her stare told him she very much wanted to be on her way. The german shepherd, siberian husky hybrid could not remember ordering such a package, but he nevertheless wanted to get out of the delivery canine’s hair if only to get her off of his front porch.
“Pen?”
She shook her head, placing the package underneath her armpit momentarily before retrieving a tablet from her shoulder bag. Tapping it once, she waited for the screen to illuminate before facing it towards Fox’s direction. Fox sniffed, briefly scanning the screen he was looking at before noting the blank line at the moment. Without further hesitation, he reached forward with a paw and roughly scrawled out his John Hancock in the margin the retriever was impatiently indicating towards. As soon as he lifted his paw, she snapped the tablet out of reach and hastily stuffed it back into her bag.
“Thanks, have a nice day!”
She remarked, shoving the box forward and almost causing Fox to drop it as he just barely grasped it before she released it. Swiveling on her ears, the husky hybrid watched after the fast walking retriever with an expression of bemusement on his muzzle.
Guess she has places to be…
He thought to himself, closing the screen door to his home before shutting the door behind him and locking it. It was still relatively early in the afternoon, and he had been spending his Saturday on a Discord call with friends in the middle of a raid. The doorbell had come as quite the intrusion, and he could faintly hear his buddies grumbling about his absence over the speakers on his headset. Deciding that they could wait a minute longer, the canine eyed the package with curiosity. His ears perked and alert, he padded over to the kitchen to retrieve a pair of scissors and cut the string keeping the brown wrapping paper attached to the box. It felt surprisingly heavy, and whatever was inside was completely unknown to Fox.
Sliding the blades of the scissors effortlessly through the string, he fumbled with the packaging before a claw caught on a tape which he cut through without too much trouble. The sound of crumpling paper followed as beneath the wrapping paper was an ordinary looking cardboard box. More tape, keeping the lid flaps together, which he made short work of. At last, he opened the box to find another, smaller container inside along with a note. Hoping that this was not some sort of prank done in poor taste, he unfolded the scrap of paper and read its contents.
Congratulations Fox! You have been approved for our brand testing regime. By now you will have signed the necessary paperwork including the consent form, safety waiver, and financial compensation contract. We will be expecting you very shortly, so be sure to fully inspect the contents of this delivery to become properly orientated for your upcoming agenda.
See you soon!
F.B.I. & Co.
Fox’s eyes bulged at the sign off at the bottom of the note, his eyes flitting up to reread the contents of the letter to insure that he had not missed anything. The canine did not have a clue what the FBI would want to do with him, and he certainly did not remember signing any paperwork consenting to experimentation done on him by the government. His growing concern peaked as he laid the note down, desperate for further clarification and returning his attention to the delivery once more. He lifted the lid on the smaller box, reaching inside to retrieve what appeared to be a small, metal cylinder. It sat in his palm, no taller than four inches or so and remarkably heavy. He checked the box once more, but found that other than the letter and small metal object there were no other contents.
He looked down suspiciously at the cylinder, leaning forward and sniffing at it. It smelled like metal, nothing particularly interesting about it other than its uniformity of shape and weight. The canine’s sensitive ears picked up on a click, and without warning a small nodule pushed itself up out of the top of the cylinder. A small hiss of escaping gas came from the container, and without further warning a plume of white, powdery gas began to escape rapidly out of the cylinder. Fox coughed, having inhaled a lung full of the substance before he was able to properly react. He dropped the cylinder, swaying momentarily before catching himself on the edge of his kitchen island.
The room was now filling up with the strange gas, accompanied by the scent of lavender mixed with mint. The scent was becoming the only thing that the poor canine could interpret, as he felt himself growing light-headed. He collapsed onto his paws and knees, coughing and spluttering while the borders of his vision dimmed. Shakily, he tried to reach for the cylinder in a weak attempt to clamp his thumb down over the protruding nozzle and stop any more of the gas from leaving. He shuddered, his eyelids growing heavy before he finally collapsed down onto his stomach. Fox felt as if there was a soft cloud pressing down against his mind, suppressing all thoughts and sensations of panic as he descended down into a deep, profound slumber.
Over in the living room, the sound of his friends complaining loudly, asking what was taking him so long, was the only sound left after the cylinder finally expelled all of its contents. In Fox’s driveway, the sound of a car pulling up followed by the shutting off of an engine could be heard. Doors slammed shut, and several furs dressed approached the front of his house. Several were dressed in suits, while the one leading the group in the middle was garbed in a white lab coat, her fluffy husky tail protruding behind her and wagging with apparent satisfaction.
