NikuComics

Turns out being raised as a hunting deer comes with benefits 😂

AdventureLemon

God’s chosen soldier needs some time in the corner to cool his head 😅

Mistclaw

Love Bones so much ❤️

Cmeowz

I love Boneslav more and more!

mmfris

Poor Usma looks so tired :(

Magnum

I love that Bones took his brother's advice to heart from the bonus comic. You look at their eyes & you can tell if they're a monster or not. He didn't forget <3

Cass

I literally cannot stress enough how much I love Boneslav.

Zada2011

Nero just getting manhandled by Bones is sending me.

Kit Marin

Welp, that settles it. Boneslav is my favorite now.

Marissa Statler

Ratt istg if something happens to Bones I'm gonna have to fite you xD

Steven Marshall

If I'm going to "that guy" for a moment, as much as the background scene of Boneslav dragging Nero away sends me, I'm a little bit annoyed that Nero is being painted as the designated bad guy (again) by both the comment section and general narrative when in all honestly, I kind feel he's a bit justified to act extremely hostile towards Usma when you take into consideration that from his point of view, she IS part of the group that they believe is trying to destroy the world. Yes, in typical Nero fashion he IS being a prick and going about expressing his discomfort in an overtly belligerent way but this is one of the few times he has a point. Also take into consideration that this is LITERALLY coming right after his panic attack of thinking Runi had gone missing. He was already high-strung so the sight of his sister standing right next to the enemy is only going to make him even more antsy. Like obviously we the viewers know that Usma doesn't advocate for Antaras's ideals and isn't there to deceive them but the protags don't know that. Honestly I'm in the 1% club that's more annoyed/confused at Runi, Kasko and Boneslav for seemingly being completely fine with her being there and displaying zero signs of skepticism that she might have an ulterior motive (though Kasko is ending the page by what seems to be opening up a question so maybe he's also on the fence but is acting in a far more civil manner about it than Nero). That's my Nero apologist tweet. Obviously I know I'll be in the minority but I just wanted to quickly provide a different perspective to these past two scenes since the general opinion of them seems to be "Nero in the wrong, everybody else in the right".

BrambleBat

I agree with Steven, that I am not a fan of Nero being painted as the bad guy here for being rightfully suspicious considering what he saw , we the audience know what’s going on but he doesn’t .. and to have him be painted as the villain by this writing feels a bit cheap . Yes he’s being a bit agressive about it but keep in mind that anger was also fear that he almost lost his sister /was worried something happened to her. And after everything they experienced he’s right to be a bit harsh and suspicious . I only hope there is a reason for this like maybe War their looking for is on Nero or he’s being influenced or that the others realize very quickly that he was right . That being said I really really love the sight of Boneslav dragging him away lmao I ship them haha.

rattGS

Nobody knows Nero's headspace better than I, and I absolutely love writing him because his logic is very clear to me. I doubt his nuance is lost to all the readers who point and laugh at him, but it's just easy to comment superficially. He reacts differently because his approach to empathy is different, and the others have their reasons to act like they do as well! They see a sad deer, Nero an enemy. I'm mostly saying this because there's always tons of thought progress behind every action of every character and I don't feel like I'm trying to intentionally drive the narrative to mock anyone. Even if they're made fun of, none of them will ever be a clown to me. I'd personally act more like Nero in a scene like this.

rattGS

Cheap..? Aw. I'm not trying to paint him as a villain at all, but it's just him being loyal to his character here. He's distrustful and the gang understands it to a point, because he has reasons! But they also see that this moment isn't the best for an explosion, which is something that Nero doesn't see.

Ollieosa

I don't think anyone's painting him as a villain, his feelings are valid but he does need to learn to analyze a situation before heading it, nothing about Usma's body language or eyes as Bone's says indicates she's hostile and there to cause trouble. So before acting out on his very valid feelings, he should hear her out first. It's for the best Bone's subdued him probably since we've seen how impulsive Nero gets. He did need some forceful "think before you act" here

PyritKyrit

I don't see it as Nero is the bad guy. He's traumatized after what happened on the mountain, which is leading him to jump up conclusions. Meanwhile, Bones has express reason to not let him jump to those conclusions; don't let Nero do what he did to them. There are four of them and just Usma. And if she were there to cause harm, Runi would probably already be hurt. So no one thinks Nero is a villain, just that he understandably has to be made to listen

Steven Marshall

This is a really good take on the situation. I fully agree that Nero was acting out of line and needed a forceful wakeup call to make him see reasoning (hopefully) before he did anything drastic. Nero's go in guns blazing has always been his biggest downfall and I do think it's that the group finally has something in the form of Boneslav to reign in him.

SolarRoseArt

Aw yeah, I love when beloved characters disagree based on the values they prioritize leaving justified feelings on both sides of the conflict.

Kwelve

''Soooo'' says Kasko, asking when his life is gonna be easy and peaceful HAHAHAHHA

Kwelve

I love the decision of making Nero irrational towards Runi's safety because if he was very protective before, now he's even paranoid but it's understandable he acts like that!! What they suffer in the mountains is very horrible, he nearly lost his sister in an horrible way!

Khali Hagen

I don’t think Nero is painted as the bad guy. We just all know he’s an explosive hot head. He was the same in his old herd. Sit still and take stock of the situation isn’t in his toolkit. It’s fine to be suspicious, but he doesn’t need to go from 0 to 100 right away.

Ollieosa

Yeah I think Ratt has done an excellent job! 🙏

Steven Marshall

Oh yeah, I didn't want to give off the vibes that I know your characters and how they would act in certain situations better than you, the literal creator. It's just because there's been quite a few scenes where Nero is the butt of a joke, which I want to clarify I'm NOT saying that the other character are being toxic/abusive towards Nero (that claim would be absolutely ridiculous) but rather Runi and Kasko taking lighthearted shots at his ignorance (Bones less so but he still needs the time to warm up to Nero who is admittedly making it very difficult for him xD) which in turn has made him the butt monkey amongst the general readers so I just wanted to quickly defend him during a moment where I felt like his point of view was being ignored and the nuance was being sanitised into yet another "oh that silly Nero!" moment. I do realise that there's nothing wrong with those comments and it's just people having some fun in an otherwise rather tense page so I don't want to give the impression that I'm dictating how other people should respond to a particular moment. Sorry I hope I didn't turn this comment section into a battlefield of contrasting opinions, I just really love these characters and story so I have some very passionate opinions xD

rattGS

No battlefield here, no worries! And I absolutely support people having passionate opinions. I just wanted to make sure to express that I aim to be very objective with my narrative and give a lot of control to the readers instead of pointing at a guy and telling you to like/dislike them. Nero definitely has gotten some more jokes on him in this chapter though, mostly to balance his ego now that his antlers are growing. I have great big plans for that boy.

Steven Marshall

Okay, I'm really glad to hear that I've not turned the comment section into something toxic. I'm not joking when I say Golden Shrike has been one of my favourite webcomic to read since 2019 and I've grown really attached to the world you've created (and hopefully these big plans for Nero don't come at a price but we'll just have to wait and see!)!

itsloach

i love bones so fucking much haha Nero reminds me a bit of certain moments in FMA where Ed is validly annoyed or outraged, but gets dragged around or scruffed by other characters because it starts becoming disproportionate to the situation. There's times to be outraged and there's times to be squinty. Right now Nero's on very high alert, so Bones drags him off to cool down. Whether his instincts wind up being on the money or not we'll have yet to find out.

Katie

Bones says go to your corner, Nero. I'm still curios why Runi's bird freaked so much out at seeing Usma, we haven't seen the birds behave like that when they met anyone else. I'm sure Usma only has good intentions, but maybe the bird notices she's associated with the god thieves?

Redchibi

Bones is best mountain puppy. Low key a ‘parent of the friend group’ moment. Love to see it. 🫶

Tori Sol

I love how Bones is grabbing Nero's antler here. Not only does it disarm him, but it's probably the only part of Nero's body that wouldn't be injured by Bones' teeth. Firm but gentle (at least as gentle as he can be).

J Patts

Boneslav is so damn cool 😎 I also have a theory that the way Nero wants to fight all the time that he might somehow embody War. Idk how.

Emma the Bombastic CowboyClown

Usma's and Runi's birds locked feet last they saw each other. They seem to behave differently with each other than we've seen other halves behave

Katie

Yeah, that time they seemed to respond in a positive manner to each other. This time Runi's bird acted terrified or like she was sounding an alarm to Runi. I'm sure some rule of drama was at play here or the bird didn't see Usma properly due to the rain or something.
