Hey girlies!! Adi sent in a question about cutting back on smoking and staying consistent with a routine. Been there.

Question: This is gonna be more so for the other girl since she was a smoker. I’m having trouble cutting the weed, how’d you control the craving to smoke? Logically I know I shouldn’t but the pull is too strong 😭 and how do you keep a routine? Adulting is hard for me and low key feel alone 😭😭

Any advice for Adi? Drop it in the comments!

Got something on your mind? Send in your own advice question here (we’ll do our best to help.

I'm on medical weed so it's maybe different? But if I need to ease off it I'll substitute CBD gummies, you kinda get that relaxed chill feeling without the THC craving

Kevin Abroad

I've never smoked weed, why am I watching this 😂

Rachel Drown

Currently there 🫠 I've been trying to set reasonable limits. I get home around 5 and I'll tell myself I can't start until 7, and then I'll challenge myself to beat it. Instead of a time limit you could try tasks - like only start after all your chores are done. I also force myself to think logically and tell myself "you know, I don't actually *need* this" and I get satisfaction from not giving into the craving. God speed girlie, can't wait to see what everyone else suggests!

I was a heavyyy smoker for a decade. I could smoke endlessly, and ounce would last me a week if I made a point to ration lol. I stopped four years ago because I started a factory job that randomly drug tested and I LOVED working there. I switched to cbd distillate, you smoke it like dabs and it's not expensive. I just needed something to replace the physical habit of putting something to my mouth. It doesn't get you high. I did it for a month then slowly stopped. Honestly, it is so nice to be able to just do things without "hold on, I'm going to hit the first". My boyfriend still smokes, and grows because it's legal in our state, so I'm around it all of the time. I still identify with that stoner side of myself in a lot of ways but it just isn't a part of my life now. Good luck, Adi, it's a struggle at first but once you make the adjustment it seems like a silly little speed bump rather than a mountain

Michelle Fernandez

Makes total sense honestly. I’ve been trying to cut back because I got so dependent on smoking the oil when at work, but I’ve realized I’m smoking constantly whether I’m trying to get high or not. It’s just habit atp and I’m doing it all day long so this was super insightful. Idk about cutting it out completely but my goal is social smoking and that’s it cuz I’m not much of a drinker anyway

Baxter

I’m not at the point where I wanna stop 😆 me and Mary are good pals

i used to be an all day every day girlie. what helped me cut back, then quit entirely, was switching to edibles ONLY. that kind of forced me to make it a nighttime thing because the edibles would make me so obviously high and incapacitated that i couldn’t do it during the day or when i needed to get stuff done LOL. and i totally agree with what lily said - it started to be an uncomfortable high, so eventually i felt like i’d rather just not be high. i think lily’s advice of making it inconvenient, whatever that means for you, is fantastic advice. it’s been such an interesting feeling to have my brain readjust from constant weed for the past 6 years. it was harder at first but now i’m chillin :)

Sylvia Stone

Good luck on quitting! Your girl is a full-blown farmer. I didn’t want my habit to become fiscally irresponsible. Plus I refuse to pay Chicago prices! 🪴 I applaud you on quitting! I love taking long brakes when I find it necessary; it helps trying to meditate during that time or try painting! 🎨 good luck again!!

I smoke to ease fibromyalgia pain. It helps but we have to watch our spending. My husband and I have a weekly budget for it. We buy just enough for him to have some to enjoy and for me to be comfortable, so we have to ration it. We hold each other accountable not to buy more until it's time to order again. I don't know if that helps, but I wish you tons of luck accomplishing your goal 🫂💙☮️

Jessica Bear

Omg, I love seeing this side of you & Jessie! So true, I also used to be an avid user. Where I live it’s illegal without a card. & Expensive, & as single Mom, I have to put my money priorities in check I realized. And just got tired of the chase, trying to find it, and good tip, so true because I started to find it inconvenient, but if I always thought, I would smoke weed. And could never quit or cut back. It’s possible! & Now, it’s been 2 years.

Jessica Bear

& the last time I tried it, I found myself feeling so paranoid, and was praying for that feeling to go away. lol, I said “ I just want to feel normal again!” 😩😂

Eunice

I had to stop once I started Lexapro. It was so hard because I got headaches and cravings. What made it harder wAs the transition into Lexapro. I think keeping busy really helped. Just be busy, that was the cleanest my house ever was 🥴😂

Ruby McDonnell

Me loading my bong as I watch this 😂 any quitters can feel free to send me their leftover bud... 👀 jk good luck to you girlies! 🩷

Sarah🩷🤍🧡

I also need this! Carts have made it too easy for me

alexia

i hoped in college that working full time would help me cut back and i’m so thankful it did. i do still enjoy a little bit after work or before bedtime but love that im not panicking anymore if im not able to smoke for a day or more.

Elisabeth

I had a weed panic attack that made me spiral into a relentless panic disorder for years following. Never craved weed after that one. Hope this helps!

Cassi Dean

Adi - find other sources of dopamine to keep you going throughout the day. When I take T breaks, this is the way I get through. Sparkly beverages, going on walks, puzzles, games, go thrifting, etc.

Alejandra C

have you put ice cubes in it lol

Chels

Trying to cut back on my smoking because my tolerance is far too high and it’s making it more boring than it should be, this video def helped reassure me that a break is indeed necessary even for a little bit hehe

Ruby McDonnell

No, my ice cubes are the size of dice so they fall right through the top part 😭 I clean my rig every day tho so it doesn't make me dry heave 🥴 lol

Sally Ranford

It's great that you want to stop. I'm a respiratory physio and we're starting to see really young people with irreversible lung damage from smoking weed. It's probably about 6 times more damaging than smoking tobacco. In the UK we have Marijuana Anonymous. Don't know if it's a thing in the US?

Andrew Giglio

Sounds like it went hand in hand with an overall improvement in your mood. Glad to see you happier overall.

Adriana

I realized I smoke because I’m incredibly overstimulated or under stimulated, I try and find a balance between keeping myself busy while also maintaining downtime. I also use the mindset that I don’t wanna “waste” weed so I don’t smoke right before I fall asleep anymore because I won’t get to enjoy the high

samantha bbh

this could not have come at a better time for me!! not going cold turkey where I don't touch it, but I want it to be fun again! my tolerance was so high that any weed was just getting me to baseline, I'm cutting back to mostly social situations or just as a little reward at the end of the week; this feels so encouraging!

G

your make up looks so good lily!

Nicole Bernache

girl you look fking STUNNING the lashes are lashing

Andrew Giglio

(side note) You're incredibly beautiful Lily.

Sam

I loooooove your haircut. This bob is so cute

izzybook

I had a similar thing where it was just part of my nightly routine and when I was bored but what got me to stop was I noticed I would consistently have a bad day the day after smoking, just anxious and easily upset the next day. I was going on a trip in March 2023 and didn’t want to waste any days on the trip having a bad day so I stopped smoking leading up to the trip so it wouldn’t be hard to sleep etc and then literally after that it was never worth the trade off to know I would have a bad day the next day and it’s been like 2 years and I’ve smoked a handful of times and truly don’t crave it at all anymore, after like 4ish years of smoking almost every night 💀

Lauren Michelle

Fellow farmer here!🙋🏻‍♀️; except in the the northeast. We very much started to save money as well! The added bonus of also being able to control and be aware of what exactly went into it during the growing process. I do enjoy a tolerance break from time to time and as someone who also has adhd, some weeks it is all I want to do and completely hyper-fixate, and other weeks I forget my bong even exists. I like to call it ✨balance✨ 😆

Just Emiiiii

Not me reaching for my weed pen right as I saw this come up lol 😂

ash marie ✌️💋✌️

Currently battling this. My tolerance is so high that smoking isn't enjoyable anymore but I can't shake the habit of doing it. I think the convenience of pens is what's killing me but being in an apt I don't want to smoke flower

Jose Navarrete

Smoking as I watch this. I want to cut down as well, but it’s so hard! It’s a daily battle 😩

Rachie

Same *hug*

Rachie

Lily when you figure it out could you please post a Patreon vid on it! Seems like there’s a lot of us battling the same demon - best of luck

The only thing that really helps me cut back on weed is just not having it around. I’ve tried keeping some for “just the weekends” or “every once in a while,” but that never works—if it’s in the house, I’ll smoke it. And not just once. It turns into an every night thing, or even middle-of-the-day if I’m off work. So when I’m trying to take a break or step away from it for any reason, I make sure it’s completely gone. I’ll finish what I have, give it away, or toss it—whatever it takes. The first couple days can be rough, but once I get through that, it really starts to fade from my mind. What helps even more is getting out of my usual environment. Taking a weekend trip or even just switching up my routine so I’m not laying in bed at night thinking about it makes a big difference. For me, it’s all or nothing—and creating space, both physically and mentally, is what makes it possible.

Holly

I was only able to stop cause I got sick from it (CHS) and had to

Elizabeth Melanson

The confusion is that this video outlined exactly what helped her stop. So she has already found the solution *for her*

Mal

i quit cold turkey over like a 7 day long vacation off work. it was hard but i feel so much better now...my anxiety and depression was at it's absolute worst and i was highkey agoraphobic. i'm not perfect now, but i'm going down on some of my meds and just feel overall so much better. i smoked for like 11 years straight, skipped maybe 2-3 days that whole time and quit in october 2024. you can do this! i miss it sometimes but it's honestly not worth it to me anymore. adi, i recommend the r/leaves and r/petioles subreddits.

Leanna R

very off topic but does anyone know if Lily has a filter on this video or what foundation she is using cause her skin looks amazing 😍

Andrew Giglio

Glad to know I am not crazy, atleast for this reason.

Miranda Ingram

off topic but I looove that max looks like a bunch of other dogs mixed into one like a frankendog 🥰🥰❤️❤️

annamaezingmeow

This is the first example I've ever seen of blue eyes reflecting their surroundings 😂 they look so gray!

I use a flower vape and a timed lock box in my apt! I use an old school Vapor Brothers box vape with the unattached whip. I just lock up the whip when I need to pace myself, huge difference! It’s wayyyy easier to manage my tolerance this way.

A C

Marijuana Anonymous started in California. Several groups applying 12-step philosophy to cannabis use aligned themselves in 1989. If you aren’t a part of the 12-step subculture, though, I don’t think it’s a good idea to refer people. True 12-step orgs are as close to anarchaic organizations as we will find, meaning, chapters operate independently with a few loose orgs providing literature and some funding. Each locale will operate with wildly different results—ranging from scheduled meetings where no one shows up, to full-on cults of personality. Since they are so independent, there are few ways to report misconduct and abuse. Here in California, MA and NA are notorious hunting grounds for predatory drug dealers. This is to say nothing of the predatory rehab industry in California, particularly Orange County.

A C

That’s not to say people can’t get good things out of MA. Lots of people I love are still here because of the work they did in 12-step. It’s just misguided and often dangerous to assume that anyone who is struggling with substances will automatically be safe in 12-step spaces.

A C

Timed lock box! Game changer for me. Making the lockup part of my routine helped me cut back a lot. I’m also on the medications Campral and (low dose) Naltrexone, both were recommended by qualified psychiatrists and pain management doctors.

I am about to go on a cruise and this was exactly what I needed to hear because I have been struggling with it because I have social anxiety and have a very social job but I have been going on longer and longer stretches but the lack of appetite is fucking with me honestly I just try to force myself to eat something

Gemma Tait

Go outside and keep yourself extremely busy is the best thing to do

noseybee

I stopped craving it so much once I got medicated for ADHD because I was actually able to do things throughout the day so I just forgot about it. Then in the evening it has been very important for me to have another relaxing ritual so things like taking baths or showing in the dark with just candlelight, having a nice tea or other treat, and playing my cozy Nintendo games all helped. I still smoke sometimes on weekends but it’s no longer this crutch. Good luck!

Georgia Mitchell

The thing about tolerance once you cut back is SO REAL. I naturally cut back because I was doing school and work full time. I would get up at 7 am and get home at 9 pm so I was literally too tired to pack a bowl or roll a joint. Now I’m graduated and in between jobs living at home so I could theoretically smoke anytime I want to, but I went so long mostly only smoking on the weekends that if I have any tasks to complete I must be sober. I’ll do 2 dabs and be in a nonverbal catatonic state now so it’s SO MUCH harder to allow myself to smoke before I have all my shit done for the day. Now on the occasion that I do smoke earlier than normal I am always met with regret because I’m either anxious, paranoid, tired, or just wanna be a vegetable on the couch. Never really decided to cut back, i think the utility of it just changes at different points in life. It used to be my medicine to help me feel normal(similar to what lily describes), but now it’s my relaxation and creativity ritual. I’ll smoke before a nice hot bath or shower, before a delicious meal I just cooked, before watching a movie at night, etc. for me it was just deciding the intention behind the action once I realized it was no longer serving me the same as it did before.

Terroreyez

I cut back recently because I was smoking way too much. I think it’s important to do what’s best for you, and really examine your reasons for smoking.

Dorothy Blakesley

I would suggest that if you need it for appetite you bring gummies or even a tincture. There are CBD tinctures, there are ones that have CBD and THC. As someone who's disabled and doesn't use it in an addictive way, just use it when I need to for appetite and sleep.. it's kind of frustrating when I see people who need it feeling like they should have to completely give it up because it's treated like you couldn't possibly be using it for medical purposes. But a lot of us need it for mental health or medical reasons, and that's okay. If you take an assessment and you're honest with yourself that it isn't an addiction, it isn't causing issues in your life, and if it's making your life more livable, it's fine.

Flor Contreras

I’m sorry lilys hair is so amazing with her skin tone I love it

Saaaam

Homestly, it was an addiction for me. I went through physical withdrawal because of how much I was doing and haven’t touched it in over a year. An online support group and apps like Quitweed helped a lot. Ppl act like you can’t get addicted, but the potency of it def makes it possible. You can also get addicted to pretty much anything. Quitting was the best thing I could’ve done. Some people can do it recreationally. I can’t

Saaaam

The /leaves subreddit also has an amazing discord chat that is on twice a day

Ady Alvarado

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question lily 🥹❤️ I read through every comment and I’m feeling extra motivated and less alone in the struggle ty everyone. Mary Jane has always been there in a self medication way until I realized I had adhd in my late 20s and that weed doesn’t help & cancels out my meds. Cutting back is hard but all these tips are helpful since cold turkey has failed me for 3 year now 🥲 I see weed as a toxic relationship, it can be good and bad, I need to set healthy boundaries to keep it in my life.

Julia

love that you are so relatable Lily. Trying to quit right now and i definitely am aware that im addicted but UGH i just wanna waste all my money on it to feel stable enough for the day but im also aware enough to know how much of a detriment it is :/ id love to be able to smoke recreationally someday especially since my tolerance is always SOOOO high that i dont even get high/ have gotten CHS (cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome which apparently u can DIE from‼️‼️…) but we’ll see :/ planning in going cold turkey until my bday in June but we’ll see what time brings

Rachel Lemmy

Hi Girly! Don’t know if you will see this, but for me I got diagnosed with gastroparesis (my stomach basically empties its contents too slowly, making me very nauseous and throw up all the time.) it came from my “chronic marijuana usage” (who knew that at least one day for 7-10 years was chronic lol). Honestly for a while that didn’t stop me, and I just felt horrible. I had to stop after breaking up with my abusive ex and moving back home and looking for jobs. Now that I have stopped, the pain caused from it is unbearable and I get so anxious. Not really advice but at the least, know that it can have impacts on your health. I still crave it, but I know that no matter how much I want it, it hurts me and makes me anxious. Don’t know if this helps at all (probably won’t) but when you notice it’s not as fulfilling and is causing issues for you, then take steps to cut down. The fact that you’re acknowledging it means you’re probably getting there.

peachxtaehyung

Really? I've heard of that from opiates but not weed? And yeah weed is known to be great for pain, I need it but my state won't legalize medical Marijuana :/

peachxtaehyung

What?! I've never heard any of that before wow

peachxtaehyung

Wait when did you stop smoking weed lily?!
