In today's episode, we discuss how influencer, Daphne Blunt, has gone viral for her accusation that a manager at the Hotel Bel Air in Los Angeles refused to serve her a drink because she was black. She claims that while she didn't have her ID at first, she later found it in her Birkin (she specifies) and the manager on duty still refused to serve her, which Daphne concluded was because of her skin color. Since the incident, the Hotel Bel Air social media accounts have been flooded with comments calling out the hotel manager and demand that she be fired under the direction of Daphne, who called the woman out by name, showed her picture, and linked her social media in her viral posts.

The ID thing is so interesting, because in Virginia it is a new policy for many restraints and grocery stores to see a valid ID before purchasing alcohol regardless of how old someone looks.

In Colorado, we have an app for a digital ID. It’s a gov app so it’s accepted just the same as your regular ID! However, I have no tried to use it outside of CO, and I don’t think many other states have done this yet.

Where I used to work we couldn't accept an ID unless it was physical and had to ask them to leave even if they just wanted food because they weren't allowed to be on the premises without a valid ID. People didn't understand and would get upset when they couldn't come in with their kids/babies because it was technically a chain and the policy was only for that particular location. It was always so awkward and gave me such anxiety 😭

I don't know how it works in states, but I work in retail in UK. If I asked for an ID and you showed me a photo I would tell you, you are out of luck...either you provide a legal physical copy or you are not getting that alcohol/fireworks/knifes/chemicals/drugs ect...it's a law lady and I am not geting jailed because you are not prepared to prove your age.

I hate this girl so much! As a food and beverage manager these are the worst customers. Servers and bartenders are required to ID if you LOOK under 35. Even if you are 45 without an ID you are not allowed to be served alcohol.

This is actually insane to me as a 25 year old woman from Iowa. My license was issued to me at 18 (real ID btw star and all) in council bluffs Iowa, I have since frequented establishments in Omaha Nebraska. When you turn 21 in Nebraska you are required to get a new ID that is horizontal, in Iowa however as long as you have a “real ID” (with the star) you can keep your vertical ID until expiration. Because my ID expires in 2027 and I am in absolutely no rush whatsoever to spend a day at the DMV and $30 I have chosen to keep my vertical because it is perfectly legal and acceptable, it scans, it’s not expired, it’s real-it passes every single form of legal validity. However because I frequent in Nebraska I have been turned away from a few places simply for the fact that it is vertical because in Nebraska the standard is horizontal-it’s frustrating but I’ve never made a big deal about it because it’s on a business to do what they are comfortable with and not risk putting their liquor license in jeopardy and I fully understand in their training they are told IDs need to be horizontal and not vertical and are not taught about Iowa ID’s. All that being said I have been fine with being denied with my REAL ID so I genuinely cannot understand the level of entitlement it takes to give invalid forms and cause this much commotion I am actually astounded by the audacity.

I ran into this as a fellow Iowan. It was before RealID but i was in the military. I had not returned home to update my license after I turned 21 and I didnt want a Texas license, especially because I did not plan on being there long. But establishments would turn me away because it was a vertical and would refuse to accept my DOB. Somtimes they would take my Gov. ID for the military, sometimes not. Frustrating yes, but also I could not imagine doing all of this. We would either go somewhere else (if it was a 21 and up admittance) or I just wouldn't drink 🤷‍♀️

Policies definitely matter, also the people. When I have to check IDs for one of the places I work, I check all IDs. Some older people make comments, but I just say it's in my job description 🤷‍♀️

She’s obviously privileged, and has money. I just don’t think everything is how she claims it is. *According to Google- Daphne Blunt's mother was a model, and her father is a retired businessman or lawyer who retired around the time she was born. Her parents raised her across Overland Park, Kansas, Miami, and Beverly Hills, supporting her early entry into modeling and acting Uncle: Roy Blunt is a well-known politician who served in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, as well as secretary of state for Missouri. Grandfather: Their father and grandfather was Leroy Blunt, a dairy farmer and state lawmaker in Missouri.
