You may know that David is a host of the Waveform Podcast, but what you probably don't know is that he took acting classes to be on a Disney show, worked at Intel, and only learned photography so that he could travel to tech events for the website Android Authority. Last week I sat down with him in Brooklyn's Prospect Park to learn more about his journey and what he thinks of the current tech landscape.

Thanks Becca! This type of additional content is awesome to see. Hopefully low(er) production effort for you, but still such a meaningful discussion for us to be a part of. Also, +1 to making a video on the sounds behind electric cars. I hadn't thought much about it but it would be interesting to see how those are formed.

Loved this, can't wait for the next one!!

So nice! I love the static shot composition and how it feels like we're (non-creepily) listening in on the conversation here. I also really enjoyed both of your opinions on algorithms. I think about the good and the bad of social media algorithms a lot. Largely I think I'm more of a fan of subscriptions than algos. Curating a list of individuals or companies that I enjoy is important to me in a social platform. Probably the biggest reason I don't use instagram is how that's not really possible on their service. When I go to youtube my first step is to go to my subscription page. I still use an RSS reader to keep up with news websites, and when I use twitter or bluesky I gravitate towards the following pages. On the other hand, when I'm done watching my subscriptions on youtube, or I've seen any new tweets from my following tab, it is nice to have a discovery feature available. It does take a significant level of self control sometimes to know when to stop, but there are so many cool people making things on the internet, that I think having a "magic box" that gives you suggestions is a good thing overall.

This was great! I love hearing from both of you, as people at the intersection of tech and photography that I enjoy so much. One little pointer - I feel you don't need to drop the non-speaking person's level down quite that much - I don't mind hearing the "yeah"s and it's a tad jarring when the level comes back up.

Thanks for sharing this, it was a great conversation! Someone you might be interested in chatting with is Alanis King. She’s an automotive journalist who used to do freelance and staff writing, but then pivoted to her own YouTube channel around the same time you did.

I absolutely adore this camera angle and setting. The park bench chat is such a calming format for a conversation, especially about tech. It was a little bit jarring when cuts happen in rapid succession but it’s not too bad and the audio sounds so good. Great format, can’t wait to see/hear more!
