My reaction to Buffy Season 7 Episode 2 "Beneath You". FROM BENEATH YOU, IT DEVOURS — There's a giant worm on the loose in Sunnydale, and Spike's back to help (or maybe it's to hinder). Willow prepares to head home from England, though reluctantly. Buffy starts her new job at Sunnydale High, Xander is having trouble getting back onto the dating scene, and Anya's back to her old vengeance game

I have a complicated relationship with season 7, it is my least favourite season and yet it contains some of my absolute favourite scenes in the entire show. The ending scene with Spike would be one of them. Just brilliant.

Not that it was unheard of before this episode but the look between Spike and Xander at the bronze spawned a countless number of fan fictions 🤣🤣

Absolutely amazing performance by James. His monologue was very different and kind of cheesy as originally scripted and filmed, and Whedon hated it. He rewrote the scene and directed it while the rest of the crew was working on another episode.

also I don’t think there are any spoilers in the opening credits There would have sort of been one for the first episode but you’ve seen that now

You're good at noticing little things and predicting. It's interesting though that at the end of s6 you thought they were building Spike up to be the big bad of s7 when they actually went the complete opposite way and you (along with most) didn't see it coming. And this route is so much more interesting on every level than if Spike just got his chip out and went back to being a pure villain like in s2. I love that the Buffyverse isn't afraid to evolve the characters dramatically. the last scene in 'beneath you' really is top tier like you described

Curious what your favorite season is. Most people pick s1 or s4 as the worst. I have always loved and had a soft spot for s4 because that's when I first started watching & I love the tone, the themes, the distinct episodes..I missed all the high school years when they originally aired but that was so fun going back to see where it began. s1 is unfairly maligned. I wish they added more episodes to s1 through the animated series. s7 aged well, get's better with time imo even though it has some major flaws.

In order my best seasons of Buffy are 6, 5, 3. 2, 4, 1 and 7. Some of those rankings are pretty close as well. I'm not like 'death to season 7'. there are just some things in it I either don't like or find a bit cringe, and season 1 has the advantage of at least being pleasantly kitsch for me. But season 7 does still have some of my favourite scenes and episodes, so like I said it's complicated. :D (edited to add: I saw the Buffy movie when it was first released, and started watching the show from when it first aired, so season 1's b gradiness wasn't something I found off putting).

opening of this episode is so "Alias". (Great show btw from JJ Abrams that nobody is reacting to)

I love s6 too but s3 is perfection in every episode.

That end scene, boy. So good. Great react, Chance.

I love how protective Dawn is of buffy as much as Buffy is protective of her. Also Chace it's no novelty that Dawns my favorite character and how you embraced her as a character is heart warming being how for some crazy reason she was hated back when.

LMAO 🤣 your reaction to Spike punching Anya is priceless.
