Let’s go

BabyFoodChewer

I heard Fallout is dropping tomorrow night, if so would you guys watch it on thursday? Or wait until next week?

VVenture

The mild anxiety the moment the GoT showrunner names come up Lmao. Don’t worry guys they’re adapting a book series that’s already completed so hopefully they’re won’t be any clowning around 🤣

Hasani Wilmer

This couch has a 3 body problem 💪🏾😤

DIOR

finally, the best show still on the schedule is here

BabyFoodChewer
>>134757401

Okay thanks for the update, hopefully its good im a huge fan of the games so fingers crossed

Daniel

Nah this is gas

Squaler
>>134757794

Good to know. This was the very reason I skipped this. Will watch this through the reaction though.

Nathan Elkin

Particle accelerators are usually the size of buildings.

B

The event at the beginning is semi true. China really had a revolution in the 1960s where if it conflicted with the current prime ministers teachings, it was deemed heresy basically. Some of china's most renowned scientists, artists and poets committed suicide or died because of the societal pressure. So crazy

xProKnockz

Been debating on watching this too

chaosdreamer
>>134760112

Yup. See all the good little communists waving Chairman Mao's Little Red Book as their excuse for the shaming and the purges. 😢

Daniel Borrego

as far as sci-fi stories go, this is a very interesting concept. i never did finish the series unfortunately, only the first book. Having everyone with chinese names made it a bit harder to follow especially with two of the main characters named yang :D this version is probably better for western audiences.

Frederick

This show feels like a combination of Inception and Oppenheimer.

Url Robbo

The universe flickering is a message only for Auggie, since it aligns with her countdown.

Professor00

This was originally a series of Chinese Novels and then there was a tv series made in China called “Three Body” which is actually available to watch on Amazon Prime. There are differences but the overall storyline is intact.

Samke Dladla

The reason thr numbers in the sky match Auggies countdown is because the universe was winking at Auggie specifically, like the lady on the steps said. Everyone else was just witness to it I guess.

AutumnOnFire

I haven't read the books, but I watched a really invested YouTuber who described them at length. If they do it right (my buddy said they didn't), the next "phase" could be one of the most cosmically horrific show we have so far, making anyone who watches develop a fear of "progress." I don't wanna get into it to avoid spoilers but MAN. I haven't thought about the universe the same since. Edit: Also, WONG IS BRITISH??

Sam

Oh shit, they made a series out of this? This is up there with the best sci-fi I've ever read, if not the best for me personally, so if they can adapt this well...damn. You're in for a ride.

cami ً

so excited to watch you guys react to three body problem! it's a great sci-fi novel series :)

cami ً
>>134762468

did you watch quinn's ideas videos? I've been watching his videos since the show came out and I'm hooked! (he said the netflix show did the show justice!)

13

I just went to read the plot for the novel, then read the plot for the chinese series, then I read the plot for this. Still confused af lmao

chaosdreamer
>>134761610

For people who don't read Chinese, Ken Liu's English translations of the original Chinese books by Liu Cixin (no relation!) are terrific.

Gilthwixt

Well fuck. I'm locked in.

Nate D.
>>134765875

It's basically a theoretical story of how the contact with humans and aliens would play out

Anorak

W sci fi, this and the books it’s based on slap

Antonio Williams

This series, if done right, is gonna be DENSE. For those interested, Quinn's Ideas on Youtube has the best summaries, and explanation videos I've come across for this series. A lot of the page will inherently be spoiled since it's explaining a book series that's been out for years but overall if you don't care about spoilers then the page is a treasure trove of videos

Babyjuuga

WAIT THEY MADE A SHOW OUT OF THIS BOOK??? IM SO HYPED

Michael Blake

Man went out knowing his wife wasn't a ride or die.

lewthefoo2

dune part 2 come on come on

LiquidXGravity
>>134772875

They said they would. They trying to figure out what day and shows to give up for it since it is like 3 hrs

Luciaron
>>134768127

I agree that this is the type of show that is enhanced by knowing what's going on. Same with Dune really.

Arc

You're in for a treat.

John Cedar
>>134760112

Yeah, there was also a not small amount of cannibalism. The cultural revolution is up there with the absolute worst periods of human history, and it wasn't very long ago at all.

Jacob Crooks

It crazy how yall acted surprised when the communist rebels were killing educated people. It happens every time they gain influence. They kill anyone who can prove them wrong. They make sure to only let you talk in settings where they know they can drown out the truth with chanted lies and demonizations.

Teyon Alexander

When I saw Father Jun at the beginning of the episode I was certain he’d have a bigger role and then they killed him in the first five minutes. I was like oh….so that’s how it’s gonna be.

chewysbutt

I wonder if they watched Hannibal.

Antonio Williams
>>134768127

No problem. Dudes voice and storytelling ability is insane. If you don't care about Dune spoilers he has a 7 hour compilation of his summaries of all the books. I'm holding off until the third movie comes out but it's definitely on my watchlist

Sensei Tensei

Ain’t no way they killed father jun at the beginning of the episode

rickie woodson

nice to hear benedict's real accent for a change. i really hope they make a movie out of "A Righteous Thirst For Vengeance"

ok
>>134760112

It is true and the PRC recognizes this period as filled with mistakes. It was a precarious time in China's history as the Revolution had happened barely 10+ years prior. China studies this period quite extensively in order not to repeat its errors.

Nate D.
>>134799117

Yeah a lot of people don't know about maos little red books that everyone was waving or that period of history, and that in the Asian dictatorships they generally don't allow worship outside their leaderss

Aery

I can’t believe they gave another book adaption to D&D. Let’s just hope they don’t run out of source material this time🤣

Daniel Borrego

3 body problem. 3 people on couch...............coincidence?

Nathan Elkin

I vote for The Newsroom after this, it’s an HBO show with dialogue as fluid and addictive as the fights in JJK.

Daniel Borrego
>>134765875

dont get yourself spoiled. its actually a pretty awesome story. dont worry, it'll make sense in time. this is where the mystery is.

Jaelyn Mcgee

it's so fucking weird realizing that's Benedict Wong's actual accent after hearing him as wong for so long

Jaelyn Mcgee
>>134815726

I was wondering why he looked so familar. he looks totally different without the beard and the period clothes

JohnnySmoke
>>134772875

It's also not technically out yet till the 16th, not sure if they wanna sail the seven seas or not 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

KenthalasAT

The insane cultural revolution stuff at the very beginning, where they are beating and executing their own scientists, is based on actual historical fact. It's also the natural evolution of cancel culture, and where it goes when it becomes part of the government.

Ian Hover

No spoilers but I’m jus lettin yall know the black dude is THAT NIGGA FR😂😂😂

Ian Hover
>>135056272

If u wanna know more just go look into who luo ji is. Thats his character in the books

SupremeCai

Yooo the double dragon broz merch? I see you Lupa

Ian Hover
>>135056272

Even if they did they’d still have no clue who luo ji is or what he does. Unless they searched for it

Greg Willickers
>>134923206

The last thing this country needs is more people watching Sorkin shows. You know how The Apprentice fooled a lot of dumb people into thinking Trump was a real great businessman? The Newsroom is that, but for fooling people into thinking cable news can ever be anything but bad

Nathan Elkin
>>134923206

The Newsroom is about the IDEA of integrity. That’s why it uses a made up news station.

kuroihana

I'm with Lupa, that's a whole global canon event. Good bye!

Squaler

This game of thrones nigga Sam is a complete shitheel in this series. I got a scope on you boi

TheDroppedFry
>>134799117

Mao and Stalin were insanely worse on death count, negligence, mass slaughter and destruction than Hitler, but they are not talked about to the same intensity and disgust as Hitler is today. People need to know what shit like this looks like by exposing it with more media.

TheDroppedFry
>>134760112

There's a Communist right above me, as if China today is any better than the past. Mass censoring, genocide of minority groups like the Uyghurs, mass surveillance, an alliance with north korea, an absolute dictatorship... They are STILL Communist today, it's in the name! "CCP" - Chinese Communist Party.

Kablamoo101

what a surprising concept

Kryptik _

THE NUMBERS MASON, WHAT DO THEY MEAN?!!?

Kpop Tart

31:11 dendrology, not only can you tell the age by looking at its rings, you can also infer what kind of climate it was in based on the colour and thickness of the rings. Thin, dark rings : very little growth, due to low temperature, low light intensity, lack of nutrients, small rainfall. (Typically winter) thick, light rings : vice versa of the above. (Typically summer) This is one way to investigate climate change. I love biology

Abdul-Rahman Lawal

45:00 £10 says the Mother is involved somehow, the daughter found out and committed suicide.

Leo

Nah if you see the universe 🌌 flicker then you better just go to sleep because ain't no escaping that.

Godrick

as a physics student this is so funny to me cuz im goin in blind, but i know exactly what the shows about thanks to the title

Alex
>>134993032

Mcarthyism was another example of the same thing.

KenthalasAT
>>134993032

Except for the whole beating people to death for daring to defy the orthodoxy. And the whole destroying your own culture and creatives. And the shear brutality of communism. Maybe McCarthyism didn't go far enough, in light of how many commies we still have polluting our universities...
