What I can say about this: It's fine, it's just not for me. It's Beebop-style Watanabe, not TiR-style Watanabe; Beepbop-style was something I was really hoping it wouldn't be based off the plot. To go the action dramady route on a really existential plot is a horrible misfire to me, when it could have been another wonderful psychological mystery show under his name. Basically very disappointed with the direction and tone, but the story is still solid enough to at least watch 1 more episode. Animation quality it whatever

ngl the vibe is immaculate I love the setting, but god dayum that voice acting is awful. all of them sound like they're struggling to read a script. they have a pause in between each word. I know they let you redo lines when you do va work and your telling me the va director was like yep this sounds great and sent it through?

i dont think its just voice acting, the problem for me is sound design, it feels so weightless that it actually subconsciously affects the animation as well. needs more detail and pack a punch when it has to

This is the directed by the same guy who did cowboy bebop and his projects especially have better schedules because of it. He isn’t all action like the director of ninja kamui. If this project suffers it will be %100 because of mappa higher ups. If they ruin his project I’ll be so disappointed.

Ninja Kamui isn't really comparable. Sure Sunghoo Park hit gold with JJK but he was still a rookie director working with a studio with no prior series while Watanabe's been directing nothing but peak for 30+ years and has been working with arguably the most reputable studio around right now(animation wise).

For me, it was more so the major animation quality dip. It started off with some of the best fight scenes I've seen and turned into a mosh pit of less than mediocre CGI robot fighting. The writing also took a turn for the worst and left a stale taste in everyone's mouth. Once you disappoint your audience like that, it's hard to come back.

Lazarus takes place in the year 2050 Plus cowboy Bebop takes place in the year 2071 .. so basically there's a 19-year gap between the two

Either whoever told this to Roshi was yapping or the show is just straight up ignoring continuity then, because in Bebop the moon blows up in 2022 during the gate incident making the Earth basically uninhabitable and it's why everybody moved to Mars and the rest of the Solar System with seemingly 20th century architecture.

Bro I am halfway through the episode there is NO SHOT this is the same universe as Bebop lmao none of the technology looks the same. The cars are different, you got drones and shit, everything looks super polished and futuristic. Completely different aesthetic. If Watanabe said that himself it makes no sense.

It just depends on the company. Crunchyroll/Funimation, Studiopolis, and Netflix dubs are usually good while Sentai Filmworks dubs tend to sound stiff.
