Every time I come back to this series, I keep forgetting how beautiful it is. From the art, to the music, and the overall message. This series leaves me with a smile on my face so many times man

"Your Peak in April" 😂

Loved these two episodes, it's been so long since I watched it that it feels so fresh. The concepts discussed in this anime about music made me a better pianist. I started to care more about why I do it and what I'm trying to accomplish when I hit those keys. Looking forward to the next drop.

I kind of have a different take from Roshi. Arima has the same motivation for playing for Kaori like he did for playing his mom but the difference is the expectations they had for him. His mom wanted him to survive in the music world by playing as accurate as possible with little freedom while Kaori wants him to be himself and express himself fully in his music.

Azusa Rin

I think it is more about how in the past he would just play to win. He had no real passion or interest in his own playing. It was just to win because he thought it was the only way to make his mom get better. His reason for playing in a broad sense was to make his mom better but it wasn't like he was dedicating his music to her. Whereas here, he is playing for Kaori and wanting his music/playing to reach her. Like his emotions, gratitude, etc reach her and he was putting that emotion into his playing. Rather than choosing her as his sole reason for playing like he did for his mom.

Spricey

The motivation being external is definitely notable, but the difference in the way they tell Kousei to play, "follow the score," versus "music is imagery," are letting him grow the other side of music he neglected and combining their methods isn't necessarily bad imo. He has to learn to make it mesh together though.

Have a good trip to the UK yall!

Him playing for Kaori I would say is more of inspiration. She inspires him to play the piano. Rather than how it was with his mom, he played just to please her. He believed winning would make her get better, so winning became all he wanted to accomplish. For Kaori, he feels that just playing the kind of piano that reaches people honors his perception of her.

Man this show is really something else. This would probably be my 5th rewatch yet the emotional part keep hitting me every time. Great show really stand out no matter how old/ how many time I rewatch, it would still stand out forever.

I thought I was the masochist here rewatching for the 3rd time but 5 is crazy lol I feel u tho!

charliewrum

Roshi's concern is understandable though. Because when kosei's mom passed away, he lost the reason to play. Now he found a new reason to play, but soon he is going to lose that reason again. So even if it looks better, he is basically going down the same road.

I think this was the first time an anime made me cry, back at the beginning of my journey.... ah the memories

Please tell me if they're going to be reacting to Superman and the Fantastic Four either here on patreon or on youtube? Please somebody let me know if y'all know what they're going to do or roshi if you see this

Well I mean...its not like he knew she might potentially die. But the important thing here is he is walking down a SIMILAR path yet one of out of his own volition. The other was playing music to appease his mother. A music he himself had no emotion for. This path he tread was playing for Kaori but he actually puts his heart in the music. He feels good playing what he wanted, for someone he wanted to play for. Kaori brought out the best in him, even though she was a similar icon to him as was his mother. Which makes it so much better. Two sides of the same coin story essentially.

Ekko08

I also get Roshi's concern of Arima in a way latching on to Kaori as like his reason for playing. But I believe playing for Kaori is better because she is his inspiration like he was to her. And the most important thing is that it's his choice, not one he's being forced into. It is going to hurt him as the way the show is playing out we know she's going to pass, but I have a feeling Arima knows Kaori would HATE if he stopped playing because of that.

hokeypokey

I don't think that him playing for Kaori is anything the same as him playing for his mom, like the dynamic is so different, he was younger and thought playing for his mom would actually save her life, and she was abusing him. Kaori re-ignited his passion and has given him support and kindness. I also don't think if she dies his last words to her will be 'I hope you die' so there would probs be less mental trauma there :P

Alkampus

I think that it was more of him performing that specific song for kaori instead of that being his only reason in general. Couple episodes back she was asking him to play with an image in his mind and he couldn’t figure out what that image was until he remembered her and him in the music room.
