1. Matsuura’s Daughter saying that “Nonuki-Sama would offer bless for a particular offering”, is taking me back to that quick flashframe when Yoshiki was mixing with “Hikaru” and we saw Hikaru carrying a head before Yoshiki came to his senses. I’m wondering what the offering in particular was, if it has any correlation to that flashframe. 2. The villages/general area being laid out like a body is giving me an inkling the area sealed some sort of god or entity in the area and each place probably had a keeper passed down to keep the entity sealed. Kubitachi village being the head of said “body”, and getting an entire being in “Hikaru” makes me think that everything has gone to shit for the other villages.

This episode was sooo good, the series is so unnerving and the characters pretty complex. I think Yoshiki is conflicted, but he’s also a very selfish character… he knows how dangerous Hikaru is but he’s not keeping him around to help him, it’s because of HIS feelings for the old Hikaru. Love me a mc that’s so flawed, it makes the story more interesting

Why doesn't Yoshiki use his friendship points to encourage Hikaru(Nonuki-sama) to go back to the damn mountain 😭 He's risking everyone's life just to see hikaru's face a little longer. Like you know he's causing all these spirits to show up and he killed someone, send him back or tell someone while he's weak!

Honestly i like Yoshiki's characterization here. He made his bed and lying in it. He knows he's being selfish and he's prepped in taking on every possible bad thing 'Hikaru' might do. Like 'Hikaru' isnt gonna think much on what he does but thats why Yoshiki'll be there to feel what 'Hikaru' should be feeling. I really like this dynamic.

The horror is unsettling in the best way possible. It's not surprise-type scare usually (though they do have them) or a disgusting-type scare; they just keep you unsettled from the start, building from there, and keeps you on your toes the whole encounter 😨

Yoshiki's "wishy-washy" behavior is more like him slowly coming to grips with what Hikaru is while simultaneously going through the stages of grief for the real Hikaru. At the start he's in denial and just wants to treat it like it's the actual Hikaru. He gets angry at him in the classroom because the real Hikaru is gone, which nearly got him killed. So then he goes into bargaining, that maybe this isn't the Hikaru he knew and liked, but could become a person just like him. So he goes into the whole arc of "teaching" Hikaru to be human, to regain control over a life where he could do nothing to help the old Hikaru by helping this one. Except that's not the reality of the situation. Hikaru is not and never will be human. After he nearly kills Asako that realization hits him like a truck and throws him into depression. That he will never actually get this friend of his back, that he would rather die after feeling this guilt from both new and old Hikaru's circumstances. I'd say at this point he's kind of in the middle of depression and acceptance, in that he's accepting what Hikaru is as he is and no longer pretending he can be something he's not, according to human standards. Even going so far as to finally investigate what he actually could be. But he's still in this stage of intense, overbearing emotion as well, like when he thought about death's heaviness on their way home. His acceptance of responsibility for Hikaru's potential actions this time around are in a place of understanding the reality of the situation, rather than out of delusion that this Hikaru would eventually truly assimilate to their town or to his friend's former life.

Since you guys are loving this anime so much. It would be nice to see you react to more supernatural animes like this. I would like to recommend Natsume Yuujincho, a comedic anime with similar slice-of-life teen boy dealing with supernatural creatures. It is supernatural horror with dark themes. Another is Mushi-Shi, also supernatural-themed story but more slow paced and serious. Both have same atmosphere to this anime.

That guy's hunting dog thing, amalgamation, or monster would have sent me to the upper realm if it flash steeped toward me. Glad the lady is back maybe she can give us more info about the mixing and Yoshiki may just have to give Hikaru his bone back because... we need some defense 😭
