Peak!

Jason Marbach

Peak has arrived and now we feast!

Krype

Bro I refreshed right on time just finished the last episode 😭

King of New York

RIP to my dawg🫡😭. I rooted for you. Not everyone’s the MC 😔

Mayday

Yaaassss

Tejiri Ubiedi

Now let the other one just fall out of your pocket....

Krype

✋😐🤚

Jason Marbach

Time for y’all to see why the last 5 eps of this show (starting with this ep) were all rated 9.5 or higher on IMDb. Only show in history to have 5 consecutive eps all rated at least 9.5 or better on there

jordansamuel

Those KX droids tossing people like it’s a regular tuesday (wich it probably is for them 😭)

fyre

where tha top boy mans need top

Ernie

Early drop?? Now this is work ethics!

Tejiri Ubiedi

When the anthem starts getting sung, you KNOW something terrible finna happen 💀

Jamaal Ellison

"Y'all got imperial marched on."😂

Seth Aasland

Full body chills the first time I watched this episode. I was floored

dragonH

oh we EARLY early... this episode fucked me up icl. Also to Sheera's point they do need to kill Dedra still because she's the closest to figuring out who Luthen is, that's the whole reason they sent Cassian. Lowkey I thought Syril might switch here at first too but then I realized that his internal conflict is NOT mainly one about the morality of the empire, it's about his own self importance. He hates feeling used and left out more than he hates what they're doing there, hence why he only paused when he realized even his biggest enemy has no clue who he is at the end. The lost himself thing y'all said added another layer to it too tho, I didn't think about that

Kite

This is one of the best episodes of tv I’ve ever watched. I was so depressed watching it for the first time.

Alex

Time to watch absolute cinema again

Godrick

That thumbnail is WILD

Noah Jackson

The thing about the Gorman resistance is that it never mattered what they did. If Rylanz took Cassian’s advice they would still get slaughtered at Ghorman plaza. If they acted earlier they still would’ve been slaughtered, even if there was a large resistance like the young people wanted they still would’ve been slaughtered.

Clinton the Bingethinker

This episode…ugh. Dreena’s monologue at the end through the radio is heartbreaking. Shit like the Ghorman massacre is literally happening in real life to real people and it makes me sick.

wrld

one of the greatest episode runs in Television History is here

Garrett

Dedra was having a panic attack about the whole situation. She probably suspected Syril was dead but it was the weight of everything that she started that was getting to her

Josh Hargrave

One of the best episodes of any TV show tbh.

Tejiri Ubiedi

Bros not even good at it at this point 💀

sol jam

and somehow the next episode is even better

Gmoney

Please get in the lab and up your game or hang up the cleats bro

Danger Tomato

Yall lost in the sauce im serious here shits ass worst andor episode yet

Co

The legend himself graces us with his enduring talent for critiquing shows. If he says it is "meh", then it is "meh".

PJ

What is the best episode then? Just say you don’t like star wars and move on.

Yager

seeing syril understand that he really was on the wrong side all along, just too late, really killed me inside. man this episode had me so sick to my stomach. that speech at the end broke me. 😭

Danger Tomato

Oh you mean the franchise that produced only 3 good movies and a decent tv show?

Solemnity

Would've been cool if Cassian noticed the sniper, but a moment too late and took him out a after his first shot

CuteAdorableDog

pathetic end to a pathetic character. I know I laughed

Leopold

Can you explain why you think it's the worst episode yet and what they could've improved

BT

lol 21:15 caught the 1 frame no filter mode.

Hybrid10Prime

He wasn't even that bad, mostly working for the wrong side

Ayanda Mpofu

Bro those droids r no joke, even as Cal Kestis they be a problem.🤣

Rocinate

What do we think? Is this is single best episode of anything Star Wars ever? One of the best episodes in television history? Where we at?

Rocinate

Lmao, not gonna lie you had me in the first half. That shit was funny tho

Godrick

nah between this and rogue one this is actually peak, no glaze. Is it perfect? Definitely not. But does it meet the "peak" bar? Absolutely.

BT

I was hoping he took out the sniper after he started randomly sniping innocent people, but it cost him a clean shot against Dedra.

Tejiri Ubiedi

Nah they could've done so much with his arc, was shocked to see him go. Realistic tho

Christian Owusu

Been too recent since I watched the show myself and I’ll def watch your reactions to it one day but even without seeing the vid I can tell this episode changed y’all. Rebellions are built on hope

Dammy Oshikoya

This was THE episode that got a lot of people to watch Andor and ooof, such a hard hitting ep. Very relevant to todays world

Delinda Arts

Incredibly impactful episode. I think this arc dropped during the LA ICE Raids and protests. It was so eerie how relevant it was. Crazy thing it is only get better after this🔥

Tempura Baby Batter

props to Lupa for noticing that Lezine started singing to to calm the crowd down (even if it was all meaningless in the end)

Krype

Except they weren’t exactly peaceful

Krype

Why are you guys entertaining this kid you really think he has a legitimate answer lol

Jason Marbach

I had such a wild journey as a viewer with Lezine, the character who started singing the anthem in this ep. When we first saw him at the town hall in ep 4 I was like “who tf is this guy? He seems kinda like a dick but I like his moxie.” Then he got Cinta clapped up and it was “nah fuck this guy, kill him, no redemption. How dare you pick her up?” Then in ep 7 they showed him as the emotional center of the Ghorman Front rebels and it was like “huh. Aight, cook I gues…” Then, finally, in this ep, as soon as he started singing I was like “Ooookay, this guy is my whole religion now. I’d die for him.” Wild times

dragonH

I lowkey never found him at fault for Cinta tbh. He's a guy who clearly cared strongly for Ghorman and was influential as seen by how he had so much sway in the meetings they were having, so for him not knowing wtf was happening and seeing equipment moving in he didn't do anything that crazy. I probably woulda been like "tf u mean go home??" too. It was ol boy who was supposed to not have a weapon, and even if he was why tf would he pull a weapon on one of his own people who just happened to be out of the loop??

Tempura Baby Batter

I don't think he's "at fault" per se, but he definitely played a part in Cinta's death. But unlike Star Wars Jerma he stayed calm in the situation and took accountability. Not saying anything he or Jerma do will make up for Cinta's death, just that Lezine's reaction and actions throughout the show clearly demonstrate his strength of character

Jason Marbach

Yeah I mean I’m just talking about that emotional reaction in the moment right after Cinta got clapped. The other guy (the one who brought the blaster) was really the one at fault if anyone was, it was just my emotional knee jerk reaction in the moment

vickylikesthis

Finally, someone who didn't cheer on syril as he choked dedra. It's still terrible to do. yes, she withheld information from him but as they point out, the bosses are not telling dedra everything either. they are both pawns. they are both bad people.

Jason Marbach

I just sat, fists clenched and tears rolling down my face as I growled at the screen most of the first couple times I watched this episode. Shit HURT, man. Hit WAY too close to home.

Jason Marbach

Syril was such an incredible character, to me. Not fundamentally evil, just an abused and neglected little boy who grew up so desperate to find somewhere he belonged and mattered that he happily signed up for fascism and worked his ass off at it until he saw it for what it really was right at the end. He never wanted power or control, he just wanted to belong somewhere. And such is the banality of evil: it never REQUIRES malice to do malicious things.

vickylikesthis

Dedra didn't want Syril hurt, hence the hesitation to say proceeds after she got the order from HQ.

Sam

The Peak episode of a Peak show

Abdul-Mal

I believe in season 1, Andor had a gun to the back of Syrils head. Andor only saw his face very briefly. Just a random soldier to him

vickylikesthis

the way sheera and lupa duck from the blasters are so cute

Abdul-Mal

Really love the world war 2 and cold war influences on this show for the worldbuilding .From the outfits to the radio stuff, Ghorman is literally France WW2 with the french resistance. Even the language is like star wars french

Jason Marbach

I love that the most iconic line of rogue one (“rebellions are built on hope”) had its genesis here on Ghorman, from the mouth of a doomed believer. I love it SO much.

Kryptik _

Syril is such a tragic character because deep down he is actually a good person. All of his intentions were always pure just that the empire manipulated him, he would have made a great rebel, just sucks that he found out too late. Also kinda goes to show how a fascistic government can rapidly become evil since all the good people either defect or get killed by the system.

Unknown

Damn ts just showed us how the assassination attempt on trump went

Jason Marbach

Denise Gough’s acting in Dedra’s final scene of this episode is going to haunt me until the day I die.

Jason Marbach

I’ve watched this episode something like 30 times and I’m still crying sitting here watching this reaction

Tejiri Ubiedi

35:08 dear lord this is perfect 😭

Jason Marbach

Eedy is maybe my most hated character in this show. She’s a MONSTER. And still, in that last shot, I *still* cried for her. After everything, that’s still a momma who is grieving her son. Fuck, man. This show is too good

Tejiri Ubiedi

36:08 Lupa you stupid af for that 🤣

Unknown

The Empire really just using all their money on weapons and droids

Jason Marbach

Man come on. You see what I know in my comments and how much this show means to me every time I comment about it and you doubt me? I’ve shown nearly everyone I know this show (watched it with them), watched it multiple times on my own, and I’ve watched every single reaction on the internet to it. Some of them, like struggle nation, multiple times. 30 is honestly probably a LOW number.

supakame

And the irony is that Andor remembered Samm, a seemingly random Ghorman resistance fighter.

Noah Jackson

There are mass genociders on this show Eedy is not the most hated character 😭 I think she’s kinda funny.

Jason Marbach

Eh, I said maybe. But as Syril showed us, the banality of evil represented in the majority of those in the empire doesn’t require true hatred and malice to thrive, it just requires decent people to do the wrong thing believing it’s right. A mother abusing and neglecting and terrorizing her son his whole entire life, with malice and relish, though? That’s *pure* evil.

Rayn

You should probably put more space between the **spoiler** and what you want to say Because you can still easily read it Just my two cents

vickylikesthis

just realized that i can't so let me just delete it

Hollow

To be fair he said "MY most hated character" not "THE most hated character".

ccadalin

Mon Mothma masterclass next week

Adrian Locke

Brother died in his most distraught moment

Thomas Davis

Syril had a 6 year one-sided beef with an Op that didn't even remember him. Brutal

Hunter

The culture is very much French but the Front's final radio message begging for help is really similar to Poland in WW2 when it was being invaded on both sides; they broadcast a plea for help before they were silenced. Sad stuff. The historical parallels they use and the inspiration they use for the writing in this show is superb.

Brother Solar

Fun Fact: The Security Droids are programmed to have a little streak of sadism in their code. So when they're throwing people, they're enjoying that.

Disoma

In a more peaceful universe Syril would have been a hero, unfortunately the empire exists. My headcanon is that he would have went on to have become a rebel had he been given the chance. But his abrupt death is also really good, often times people just aren't given the chance to change.

Ron H

this is hitting like crazy on rewatch, back half of the episode just had me silently weeping

Disoma

Syril is definitely my favourite character, a downtrodden man who despite his need for recognition and praise fundamentally believes in order and the importance of law. I would say this desire for order in part makes him latch onto structured systems like the empire, he foolishly believed they upheld the same views as him, which made him a useful idiot. I feel like Syril was reaching a turning point. I can imagine two paths for him. The first is where he becomes a baser form of himself, staying with the empire. The other is one where he changes and decides to rebel against it. I think there is a certain desire for the characters we care about to become better, to grow and end up happy, perhaps in part because we see ourselves in them and hope that we too maybe given the chance to grow. But often times people aren't given a second chance, like Syril they just die.

Sare

Its interesting that there is a thematically parallel between Andor and Syril. I've seen so many people describe Andor and "Rogue One" to an extent as nameless heroes and side characters that no one will remember despite being the sole reason "A New Hope" can even happen. This show makes Andor the main character we follow for this story, but meanwhile Syril is a side character, having his own struggles and character development but will die as just another nameless side character that Andor didnt even know existed.

Ron H

you mean that fake publicity stunt

Unknown

Exactly. The shot fired from within

AvatarJordy

This episode is so timely considering everything happening in Gaza. I think I cry harder every time I watch it. Denise Gough has said she purposely made an ugly face to make Dedra look as much like a boot-licking fascist as she can. But in real life she’s actually very outspoken and pro Gaza and Palestine (so is Alex Lawther the actor who plays Nemik in season 1)

Sam

What an episode, man. Cyril. The writing for his character was phenomenal.

WTT_321

You mean just like that droid that was like "hang?" to Cassian when he said "hold" lol 😂

Brother Solar

Yessir, them boys are in it for the love of the game.

ChromeMox

While I agree in the devastation parallels, honestly its not that close in terms of orchestration. Israel / Palestine is an ongoing escalation and continuation of millennia old religious groups at fundamental opposition in a region. The closer parallel is to what is occurring in America today. Military being deployed against its own populace in the name of "peace", Powerful figures orchestrating actions from the comfort and safety miles away, purposefully trying to incite acts of retaliatory aggression, utilizing the media to portray sections of its own people as dangerous in order to justify its actions. As an American, this episode hits closer to home every day.

WTT_321

Yup, we knew what time it was when Ghormans were walking right into a trap, when some were too stubborn to realize that their fates were sealed....

Carlos

Never ask a man his salary, a woman her age, and what K2SO was up to on Ghorman.

AmityBloaf

It's a terrible thing to choke Satan The Devil??? LOL If anyone believes that Syril was a Bad Person at any point in the show. I IMPLORE You to rewatch from the first episode again

vickylikesthis

They equally believe what they have been conditioned to believe. I don't understand how people can extend empathy towards syril but not dedra.

vickylikesthis

The wild thing is that so many reactors can think of a different situation they find to be parallel to ghorman. It just happens over and over again in our history.

vickylikesthis

More like 3 (bby5-bby2) but your point stands!

Balenseeks

I cant help but think back to when Syril's supervisor on Morlana One said keeping the Empire out of our business was for everyone's benefit including Syril. Bruh should've just let all this shit go.

RYC

anyone shocked by that imperial dude, on the rooftop shooting at his fellow soldiers, to encourage slaughter of the innocent, PLEASE look up the 'Hannibal Directive'. #iykyk

Sare

That might be the most wise man in the show.

Krype

🙄

King of New York

AOT has 6 consecutive. Still a crazy achievement. Definitely revamped my love of Star Wars.

Jason Marbach

Huh. Where is that so I could go look? All the news articles at the time were all “Andor only show ever to have 5 straight 9.5 rated eps on IMDb.” Maybe they meant live action, I dunno. We all know nobody outside the anime community takes anime seriously as an art form

Teddy McDonald

Bro I'm crying at Lupa summoning a thrown nigga 😂😂 but fr tho it was an amazing episode, they did an amazing job at building that feeling of dread, and then the chaos once the shooting started

King of New York

The episode that got people into the show was 20/24 episodes in?

Argo2Unitard

What's happening in Gaza is not some bullshit about fundamentalism going back thousands of years. It's a direct result of European settler colonialism. The country was taken by the British and then given to European Jews after WW2 (conveniently after the UK refused to grant them asylum when they needed it.) The Palestinians fight back because they literally lived there and were forced out and kept in open air prisons, not because "Muslims hate Jews" or whatever you think it is.

Big I

I think thats honestly one of the most interesting parts of Syril's character. He was so desperate/focused on control, on rigid order, on a desire for something MORE. He wasn't even necessarily power hungry (although lets be honest, he certainly enjoyed it), but he craved that order. He was sort of the perfect idiot. He bought into the propoganda. He was bitter, wanting more in his life, had a plan and the willingness to see it through (mostly). If he'd been a little more cruel, more ruthless, he probably would have been a much more dangerous foe and someone to really fear. As it stands though, he started to crack. Just as he started to realize that the empire might not have been the good/order he wanted, he was killed. I honestly would have loved to have seen both potential options of his story. The part that goes on to become more orderly, more stubborn, cruel, demanding. The part that doubles down on the order and loses his humanity. And then the other half that turns from that, that maybe becomes better, that finds that maybe he can't stomach the murder of innocents. It would have been incredibly interesting to have had him slowly become part of the rebellion.

Ge

This episode was one of the best hours of television I have ever seen. I remember watching this episode DISTRAUGHT. Everything about this episode hurt me. I literally sat and stared at the screen with tears in my eyes trying to process what I watched. Insane writing and acting

rayman

man this episode gets better very time I watch it. The most brutally grim sequence of events in Star Wars tv/movie history for sure. nothing but fire episodes from here. Ep 10 is also one of my all time favorites

AnnaSama

I love the way they handled Syril's character! Imagine believing for almost two years that you're trying to bait outside rebel groups, just to find out that you were being used by your girlfriend to instigate a genocide against the people who've become your friends and neighbors... damn. His end was well-layered and perfectly executed. As hard as this episode is to watch, especially since we're reading about the same shit happening every day in Gaza and Ukraine, this one episode elevates all of Star Wars. It's important to see why they HAD to stop Palpatine. Ya'll are going to love the way the show wraps up!

Antonio

YYYYYEEEEESSSSS!!!!! OMG IVE BEEN WAITING FOR HIM TO DIE👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Paulothy

The whole idea of peaceful protest is to let the oppressors crush you in a way that shows the world their cruelty. Nowadays people are understandably far less willing to go down without a fight

Delinda Arts

The oppressors’ biggest fear is an organized, EDUCATED rebellion that’s not afraid to lay some bodies down. Bc power doesn’t belong to a sole individual. It should be with the people.

Ernie

I knew something was sketchy when they gave syril that boss fight, he punched harder than hulk against thanos in infinity war.

Kylian

Security droids was sending dudes to suplex city

t500010000

Andor better than most star wars movies wow

Joseph C Gdaniec

Really love this episode showing exactly how fascist governments operate. It doesn't matter if you are resisting peacefully or not, they will just false flag kill their own people to give an excuse to use lethal force

Zacost

37:40 This episode been breaking my heart
