I loved this movie but my only nitpicks are that the POV transitions were put in odd places sometimes and the crackhead character section could be easily cut out or shortened he was funny but added nothing of real value to the plot. Not gonna lie I thought it was commentary as well about school shootings because they showed the gun and it was an entire class of kids (except 1) missing, but no. It was just using people as weapons to do your bidding. This movie gets a 9/10 for me because I literally could not guess what the plot was and had to stop and let the suspense play out. You're not wrong, the director did an interview about it. it's kinda clear when Archer says that the kids were "weaponized." i saw an interview with the director, who wrote this script while he was processing his grief over the death of a friend, and the he said the only thing this is a "commentary" on is how a grieving person can turn the different aspects of their grief into a weapon against those around them. And the different flaws of the characters are how parts of grief can manifest (anger, blaming, alcoholism, drug use, irrational sexual behavior, etc.)

Meghan 2.0 was very mediocre. Turning a horror into a kind of superhero movie was never a good idea. They alienated the core audience that made the first Meghan successful. I can see why 2.0 flopped. If you want a genuinely great action Sci Fi movie based on A.I i would recommend Upgrade (2018) or Ex Machina. Both are excellent in different ways.

The second time I watched this, the more I think Gladys wasn’t actually apart of Alex’s family. She introduced herself as his mom’s older sister but his dad says she’s her aunt. She tells Alex she hadn’t seen him since he was a baby but that would’ve been around 9 or 10 years ago and his dad states they hadn’t seen her for like 15 years so some things don’t add up or make sense with her relationship to the family.

I actually was thinking at some point that Gladys was not the culprit, since parasites is the recurring theme, maybe the tree is the actual parasite/entity. Using the tree or getting hurt by its spines could be the reason why Aunt Gladys was sick. So I actually thought that the ending was going to imply that Alex will be the next to fall ill and start looking on how to feed. This theory doesn't explain why the ritual process, but looking at Shub-Niggurath from H.P Lovecraft, blood and children sacrifices throught rituals are performed to feed Niggurath or to bargain in order to recieve her "gifts". And in the game Alone in the Dark (2024) shub-niggurath was precisely desguised as a tree and being worshipped by a creole cult involving Voodoo stuff.

I love how there are hints at an actual witch being involved. First with the vandalism on Justine's car then when we're introduced to Gladys through Marcus, she uses the excuse of "a touch of consumption" and the principal is confused because he says it sounds like something you'd hear on the Oregon Trail. Which is a hint at how old she is and she kind of catches herself like shit I shouldn't have said that and continues to play off being the quirky aunt. I'd be very curious to see a sequel about her. I feel like it's rare to get movies about straight up witches that aren't themed around Halloween. I like the horror movie aspect of it.

Y’all gotta remember that this is (was) a normal ass suburban town. They had NO reason to suspect that there was any sort of supernatural shit or witchcraft going on, because in their heads, that shit isn’t real. That’s why the cops and the feds were being slow in their investigation, because they were trying to rationalize the kids’ disappearance with some sort of tv show (mentioned at the beginning by the narrator) or another thing the kids could have followed. Also, there was no way Alex could have done anything because he was already under the impression that Gladys would have killed his parents if he said anything. She literally threatens him in front of his face by having them stab themselves! Alex was getting bullied; his only source of comfort was his parents. Of course he’s going to comply with Gladys because his parents are all he cares about! Obviously there’s going to be some sort of suspension of disbelief when it comes to a movie like this, so the gaps in logic have to be taken at face value. But remember these are REAL people experiencing these events. They’re not going to think logically because they’re human beings. They don’t have the information we had when watching. Justine was an alcoholic, Archer was a neglectful father, Paul was a cheater and a douchebag, James was a crackhead, Marcus was a naive dude who trusted too hard, and Alex was just a normal kid who was getting bullied. You might think they’re stupid, but I think that’s just human nature.

With examples like, the authority and news media not doing much about it, parents being unsure on who to blame during grievance, and Alex being a victim accomplice. The very abrupt ending even demonstrate the unknowns of what happened next after the case is finished, can we truly live the same with what happened or will this be haunting moment for us?

I seen some people talk about the so-called “plot hole” about the dream scene and why Ghadys being in Justine and Archer dreams wouldn’t make any since as she’s avoiding getting caught. Now the dream sequence would only be considered a “plot hole” if the person is unwilling to explore/talk about the meaning and theme. For my theory, Justine and Archer are both in a Astral Projection dream, where we could them leaving out of their body and going to their wanted destination. With Justine it’s going back to her classroom and Archer it’s finding his son, both the students and Archer son have a parasitic connection with Gladys and having sense of them getting a bit closer to her, tried to scare them out of their dreams. So I don’t personally think she wanted to be seen, just trying to wake them out of the truth.

Paul went by himself because he wanted the glory for himself after fucking up with the police captain (who was his wife’s father) by cheating on his wife. That plus the shit with the body cam and the car cam meant he was in deep shit and his career was on the line. If he found the kids, he would have been back in good graces with the police captain and his job was safe.

He only knew how to do it because the witch showed him. And once even his parents started to become rabid and try and attack him when he was locked in the bathroom he began doing the ritual not because he knew it would work. But at that moment it was literally his only option to try and stop her. And I think ANY 8 year old after seeing a witch make their parents repeatedly STAB themselves in the face with forks. And tells them she can make their parents eat each other would clam the fuck up. It’s just like children that are abused. They don’t always speak up out of fear, threats, or sometimes it being normalized. To Alex it was them or his parents and he chose his parents to whatever capacity he could have them in. It’s crazy you expect an 8 year old to be able to just tell someone this was happening as if anyone would actually believe him, especially since Gladys had already went to the school at one point and spoken to police if I’m not mistaken. Why would be think that regular cops could stop a magical witch? If we are speaking logically. Since you assume that’s why he should’ve done, and say he contemplated it. Where did you get this? The film was a commentary about the directors life, he was Alex, and his parents were alcoholics to the point he had to raise himself and take care of them which is where you get Alex's part. It's about how isolated he felt

For those of you that care and wish to know the real answer why this is called "weapons" here you go: it's not about school shootings at all so the people saying that are just making up their own head canon. The director of this came out and pretty much explained what it all meant, in this movie he is Alex, in real life he grew up with two parents that were heavy alcoholics that forced him to grow up at a very young age and take care of the the things adults would take care of, shown with Alex feeding his parents and the kids and cleaning the house. It's called weapons because it's about showing how alcohol can be turned into weapon and what it does to people ie: turning them into the puppets you see. Which is also why Justine is shown to be an alcoholic, Paul is a recovering alcoholic, and James suffers from drug abuse. As a side note all the little Easter eggs that don't make sense at first are Easter eggs honoring his friend and co host from when he did "whitest kids you know" that has passed away. It was a grieving process because they were close

The movie is supposed to set a bar for your suspension and never break that limitation it set for itself, otherwise its "breaking your suspension of disbelief" or "jumping the shark". Anime immediately sets the bar of "suspension of disbelief" high as fuck because what youre looking at is 2-D illustrations, not real people. So you immediately accept that nothing youre going to see is even remotely real.

I don't think I've ever found a horror movie to be scary before. So, when I think of what a good horror movie is, I think what's a good movie that just happens to be categorized as horror. It's not like any of the slasher movies with Jason or Ghost Face are scary, but they're still fun to watch. At least there's still people like Lupa who can find horror in everything, wish I was like that.

Alot of its atmosphere , if you watch a movie in a casual setting its lost ots effect. Its why i made my personal theater area. Granted slasher movies as you said are really never close to scary. I used slasher movies as an example because they're specifically known not to be 'scary' horror movies, but I've watched lots of horror movies, not usually by my own choice but just because I get dragged into watching them every Saturday by a sibling. I'm usually disappointed by the fact that they aren't scary, but still have a fun time with the movie, as long as the movie isn't taking itself seriously, like the Nun or any church-based horror movies like the exorcist movies to be honest. Horror video games seem to be the only actually guaranteed scary things that always scare me, as interactive experiences will always be more immersive, as long as you aren't emotionless like Moist Critical.
