If I had a nickel for every time a horse died a brutal death in a Critical Role show I'd have 2 nickels Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice

PJ Rivera

I wanted them to finish vox machina first but the Mighty Nein was my first introduction to them so I ain’t complaining they’re more dysfunctional than vox lol

slavicandsapphic

Tbf vox is coming out with s4 next year and probably in the first few months so i think im chill with it Plus Mighty Nein’s story is so fun, i think this is where everyone had a lot of fun as they became way more comfortable playing DnD

Jakohbe White

Just for a lil context the first few episodes are lil backstory before they start getting into the actual campaign content

Naya Fae

It's crazy that they got animation this good for a 45 minute episode series

bleach

The funny thing is she also sounds like Korra

Bria A.

Breakdown of main party cast for you guys, in comparison to TLOVM: - Caleb: Liam O'Brien (Vax) - Nott: Sam Riegel (Scanlan) - female character btw! - Beauregard: Marisha Ray (Keyleth) - Yasha: Ashley Johnson (Pike) - Jester: Laura Bailey (Vex) *not in this episode - Fjord: Travis Willingham (Grog) *not in this episode - Mollymauk: Taliesin Jaffe (Percy) *not in this episode

Coco

Lupa making me realize you’re just a DM in Dispatch 🙃

Ichris930

Will the Door the final boss again?

Jamaal Ellison

Requesting For All Mankind on Apple TV.

Ayojii

Critical role does it again! I’m still holding out hope that Roshi and Sheera give Baldurs Gate 3 a try.

MitchTheSnitch

One of the creators said that Vox Machina are like the Avengers, and The Mighty Nein are like the Guardians of the Galaxy.

SerJon Bennett

Nvm my dumb ass just needed to look at the schedule

ccadalin

I started C2 in August and paused after Episode 26, iykyk. I feel like that would be a perfect cliffhanger end to S1 but we shall see how they adapt it for TV.

Bria A.

Nah Lupa (and Sheera) you had it entirely correct, Caleb is Vax's VA. Taliesin (Percy's VA) and his character hasn't shown up yet lol

Riley

Ashley is in the last bit of the ep

Bria A.

Wasn't that the season summary, not the episode proper though? Unless the ad I got made the transition between scenes weird.

Izumi_The_Neko

That wasn't the husband in the school. Scene. The husband had Grey hair. Also you guys were right about that being vax's voice and the goblin is scanland. The person that you guys say looks like Korra and sokka, is keyleth.

MonarchXIII

Some info for y'all if you didn't know already. The Mighty Nein takes place in the same universe as Vox Machina. Vox Machina is set in the continent of Tal'Dorei, while The Mighty Nein is in the continent of Wildemount.

Anthony Chase

So everyone knows that is Korra’s va. The reference makes sense.

Naya Fae

Btw Nott is a she but Scanalan (Sam Riegel) voices her. She was his character for the Mighty Nein campaign.

Bria A.

...Beau? That's Marisha Ray, who voiced Keyleth and is once again voicing her own character. Janet Varney did voice Keyleth's mother Vilya in TLOVM, though. Marisha also just loves the A:TLA universe, so there are tributes (I don't think Beau's appearance necessarily was, though, the order she belongs to just happens to have blue uniforms).

Anthony Chase

It said she was a guest star for this adaptation and her voice sounds so insanely similar that it’s hard to tell them apart. I apologize for assuming.

Riley

No, it's not, it's the last scene of the episode, not the season summary

Bria A.

Cool, edited the post!

Hamza

That is Vax's Voice. Percy's voice is more deeper.

maseken

So the Mighty Nein was Campaign 2 of Critical Role - The events of this campaign takes place roughly 30 years after the ending of the Vox Machina campaign (which we haven't got to in the Vox Machina animated show) (same world, but mighty nein mostly takes place on a different continent) - This is a lot different because the cast was more used to DND so they went for creating some different characters rather than the pretty standard fantasy tropes they had in Vox Machina Travis Willingham/Grog - will be playing Fjord Laura Bailey/Vex - will be playing Jester Liam O'Brien/Vax - will be playing Caleb Sam Riegal/Scanlan - will be playing Nott The Brave Taliesin Jaffe/Percy - will be playing Mollymauk Marisha Ray/Keyleth - will be playing Beau Ashley Johnson/Pike - will be playing Yasha Also they're taking liberties with the story and fleshing things out and making more sense of the whole story they created during the campaign for the animated show! The start of this was not even in the campaign iirc

Izumi_The_Neko

Oh and lupa was right about the goblin being a girl.

Abraham Perez

Slight correction, Yasha was in the episode Just at the very end of it

Bria A.

*20 years, but thanks for posting a better version of my summary (sincerely lol)!

maseken

Oops haha typing to fast, ty ty <3

Avalon

They’re being worked on at the same time. No lost production time

Bria A.

It's really not lmao. All of the main PCs of any CR show will be voiced by the people who actually played them.

Bria A.

Oh, also, Dairon is Ming-Na Wen (aka the one and only Mulan)! Side note I think it's really funny that people are so confused about Marisha's voice, because she sounds a lot more similar to Keyleth in the Mighty Nein show than the voice she used for Beau in the actual D&D campaign, which was deeper than this lmao

Dotty

I feel so greedy wanting you guys to release episode 2 and 3 when you guys just gave us episode 1!

aegismk2

oh yah this finna be fire

Sam

YESSSS

Avalon

The Luxon beacon is 12 sided, not 20. The famous dnd die is a icosahedron (20 sided) die

ShaquanVirse

I Already Love This Series!!!!

IIsechII

YESS LET GOOOOOOOOO

Bria A.

The episode summaries make it seem like the first season will only cover less than 20 episodes of the campaign (plus added and altered content that wasn't even in it). But yeah, when exactly the big event happens has been a topic of debate among fans for a while now. Very interested to find out.

Tabbs

As a cat owner who lost their cat, that cat scene hit me hard

Frederick

A solid start. Great to see most of the Voice Actors from Vox Machina in this show

Sam

You guys are gonna LOVE this show. There adding a lot of new stuff for those of us who knows the story as well. So keen to go through it all with everyone!

Eduardo

roshi i need the subs

Chanceg983

The reason they're called the mighty nein was because they were constantly rolling 9s in the beginning of the campaign. Liam's character Caleb is that world's version of german, so they used the "nein" spelling for their group name

Dark Danny

Roshi, delete that description, there's still time

Jason Marbach

Lupa’s cooking with the Dispatch = D&D

Jamaal Ellison

@5:59 am I crazy or does that sound like Travis Scott

Krype

I wouldn’t call her a beast yet she got cooked

Ronnie

Lol 41:50 the cat's name is actually Frumpkin. Caleb is speaking Zemnian in world which is just German. Nein=no. There was a running joke during the early epis of the campaign where they kept rolling 9s and Caleb said 'nein' a lot so 'The Mighty Nein' kinda came into play. Other people have said, but TM9 takes place in the same world (Exandria) about 20 years after the conclusion of Vox Machina, and mostly on a different continent (Wildemount). To make it a bit easier: Scanlan=Nott (goblin girl) Vax=Caleb (hobo) Keyleth=Beau (monk) Pike=Yasha (barbarian woman you see at the end) Vex=Jester (blue tiefling) Grog=Fjord (green half orc) Percy=Mollymauk (purple tiefling)

Jason Marbach

Vlad Tepes himself voicing the king 👀

Nurrek

Can’t wait till they realize the goblin is a girl

CobraCartoon

I’m so excited for this series. M9 is my favorite campaign. FYI Vax is Caleb Scanlan is Nott Keyleth is Beau I’m not telling who the woman at the end is yet. Oh and those purple, pointed ear creatures in the beginning they were stealing from are called drow, basically dark elves that can’t handle sunlight.

JonBapalot

fragrant flower ??😭

Shabammo

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but as today was special (they released 3 eps today, but it'll only be one a week from now on) are ep 2 & 3 reactions coming out soonish (like tonight/tomorrow)? Or are yall doing 1 a week regardless and be 2 weeks behind ep releases (aka ep 4 releases next week but your ep 2 reaction will)? I didn't see anything about it in the schedule post or discord. Also, SO hype for yalls reaction to this show! My favorite campaign, and it's super fun to see the theorizing from people totally blind to it. Have fun!

Gravity

that was a spell called Silence. It covered the area in magical silence hence why you couldn't hear the explosion till the rocks flew out of it

Anime4Life

The Goblin is Female!

Kahdeem Suliaman

I wasn’t expecting Ming Wa Wen to be in this🙌🙌🙌

BZD

It is a bit hard to tell since I’m pretty sure Sam is voicing her.

CAM

Caption is a little crazy when you remember that’s aang too

Sam

Couple of notes! Roshi was initially right, the hobo (Caleb) has the same voice as Vax (Liam O'Brien). The goblin has the same voice as Scanlan (Sam Riegel). Beauregard has the same voice as Keyleth (Marisha Ray). Caleb technically wasn't resurrecting his dead cat, he was summoning a familiar. The white stuff wasn't ashes, it was bat poop, which he took from the bat cage in the shop. It's just a nod to D&D wizard stuff, as they need materials to cast certain spells. Also, make sure to pay attention to whose German, that'll be important later.

Jadon

If anyone hasn't said it yet, this takes place 20 years after Vox!

Finka Clash

nah sheera that wasnt the husband they dissected. just some random.

Sam

Also, just for any that haven't seen it yet, and no characters we've not seen: Caleb/Vax, Nott/Scanlan, Beau/Keyleth, Character at the end/Pike.

cade-carter

yeah she spends the whole episode getting clounded

Bob Bob

Subtitle is missing

Godrick

Everything these thieves are doing in the intro is a spell from DND. It looks like they had the spells pre loaded in their tatoos. "silence" to keep the blast quite (pretty smart tbh), looked like "feather fall" to land, and maybe a combo of "longstrider" and "jump" to clear the buildings

Ara Araragi

I know the Water Tribe is already Inuit-coded, but if Sokka got with Korra then he and Katara would be "Eskimo siblings" in more ways than one...

King97

I believe you are correct

Jason Marbach

Oh yeah it’s definitely him. Graham McTavish

I'Zanay Rogers

I can't wait until they react to episode 3!! Purple guy and Caleb are my favorite so far!! And I like the little green guy as well loll!🤎💜💚

LiquidXGravity

Definitely hard to tell since it's a man doing a terrible female voice lol 😆

I VisiBomb I

very confused by this episode tbh. I get that ickythong might have orchestrated this whole thing to get his hands on a powerful relic, but why did the king seem happy about waging war for no good reason? "they think we did it, so might as well wage war" is the most dumb thing ever, nobody would do that. The king doesn't even know if they have the beacon or not, so what would he gain other than having a ton of aggro on him from an entire enemy empire, instead of just admitting they don't have it and send a search group for it?

vash_yy

no subs?

vash_yy

tbf, they were at a cold war with the kryn this entire time anyway, so they wanted to do it either way and considering how they treat that bugbear and hate the kryn, they want then gone for racial reasons

zay

So do i need to finish vox machina to understand this ?

Jadon

Nahh so far its just like lil references. But I mean I would recommend finishing Vox cus its gas lol but you don't have to to watch the show. Im sure a few of the references they wont even catch lol

Matt

“Sleeves are bullshit”, if only someone could put this on a shirt lol iykyk

Bria A.

because sometimes the people leading the government are warmongers who are looking for a "righteous" reason to be violent lmao, it really is that simple. (my more nuanced answer is that he's being pushed towards that level of racism and xenophobia by trent, who's one of his trusted on-call advisors. like he's literally the archmage of influence lol)

Bria A.

I'm glad more people / people who don't know much about it otherwise are so excited by this!! (Nott's a woman btw unless this was Fjord shade lol)

DonnyBoxcars

The guy who brought back his cat is probably sorcerer or wizard and that was his familiar. What's weird is that in DnD you should be able to summon a familiar with relative ease with a low level spell slot, but he's using the somatic and component (e.g. verbal and material requirements) version of the spell that anyone without magic power can use. He looks sick so something is up.

Bria A.

You technically can't finish Vox Machina because TLOVM (the show) isn't finished lol, so for strictly animated show watchers you're more or less fine -- the most you'll get is references and actual plot intersections or possible cameos won't be for a while yet. Like Jadon, I recommend catching up though!

Bria A.

A lot of Prime shows do three episode first week drops. Roshi and the crew will GENERALLY do the pilot / season premiere the week it drops, and then do two episodes on the schedule every week following.

Shabammo

Alright! Ty for the answer.

Bria A.

Wizard, for the record (just because the show probably won't make that distinction by name)! And I won't spoil anything plot or backstory-wise since you don't seem to know, but game-wise: Find Familiar has always required material components...? And RAW you can't not have magic and cast the spell, you do still have to be capable of learning it lol. (As for the character, Liam made a point in this campaign with Caleb of collecting components and describing spells instead of just using a focus, so that's why there's emphasis.)

Avalon

Boy are you going to be so confused when you read about us intervention in the Middle East

Bria A.

You're welcome! Happy to help.

Gilthwixt

The concept of jumping at any justification to make a cold war turn hot has existed IRL for centuries. Just Google "Casus Belli". The dialogue more or less explains it - the King has always wanted to go to war, but the people will not support one unless convinced. Now they have no choice.

Josue Dominguez

Just gonna give y’all some info on the characters Caleb Widogast - Evocation Wizard voiced by Liam O’Brian who also voiced Vax in Vox Machina and Gara in Naruto dub Nott the Brave - Rogue voiced by Sam Riegel who also voiced Scanlen in Vox Machina and Sweettalker in the tutorial of dispatch Beauregard - Way of the Colbat Soul Monk voiced by Marisha Ray who also voiced Keyleth in Vox Machina and also voiced Brichhouse in the tutorial of dispatch The warrior at the end - voiced by Ashley Johnson who also voiced Pike in Vox Machina and also voiced Ellie in the Last of Us video game. I’ll keep y’all updated on info regarding the campaign and answer questions you may not find answers to by watching the show.

PJ Rivera

Basically session 0 stuff we didn’t see like how they added the lighting dragon in Vox machina right before the briarwoods as they started recording and streaming their campaign smack dab in the middle

PJ Rivera

When I heard they were switching from 22 min to 45 I was worried we’d get the invincible treatment but I’m so glad to be wrong

PJ Rivera

Hopefully they remedy that because sometimes they talk over the episode. I watched the first one with roshi and crew then I binged the other 2 myself

BZD

She gets beat up just like Korra too.

Danger Tomato

I feel like animated shows these days are designed by ai

Danger Tomato

And we always need subs every show.

BZD

What do you mean?

Norman kay10

I was hoping you would notice the term Residuam from Whitestone in Vox Machina cause that staff is what being used to make the Magic enhancers

Panda

I have a mighty need for more mighty nein, but i will wait. And by wait i mean im going to now try to remove all memory of this show until i see ts pop back up on my notifs for you guys or he new eps come out lmfao.

I VisiBomb I

No need really, I've first hand experience in it, being from where I'm from, which is what confused me in the first place... like, wars don't work that way in practice. You go to war when theres actual risk to the country, not because someone told you it's cool. For example, where I'm from, there was a war for a while now, and first thing that happened, immediately when the war started, even though our enemies where from outside the country, we blamed our leaders for their lousy work on keeping us safe and for the need of war in the first place. Trent said to the king that the people will follow him because they'll sow fear into the people from the outsiders, but that never works, the only realistic thing that would happen in such a situation is a bunch of angry families about the king that drafts their family members, and a bunch of others who'll be angry at the king for not doing a good job at preventing a war in the first place, not to mention the economic state that always gets worse in a war. Then again, its a fantasy show, and a little suspension of disbelief is not necessarily bad.

Krype

How they really let three people do all this also wish the guards weren’t just fodder to make them look cool 😭

I VisiBomb I

so as I said in a previous comment, the fact that they have no choice doesn't mean they won't hate the king for going to war. when a nation goes to war, theres always those with people who are getting drafted, or those who suffer casualties, or those who are hurt by the declining economy of a warring nation, so basically everyone, which means the head of that nation is gonna get massive backlash no matter who the enemy of that nation is. even if they all agree that the war needs to be won at the moment, the mere fact that a war has started under the rule of said individual immediately puts him at risk of a revolution/dethroning/killing for having put his people in this situation in the first place.

Radoras

yeah, I think it's also that in most groups, people don't enjoy keeping spreadsheets of what materials they have/don't have - so unless it's something expensive, it's just waived like "living expenses" (to leave more time for the cool stuff) - if I remember right, they made a point of Caleb's component gathering because he started as basically a hobo with not much more than his clothes, so it's not just "you buy magic materials for x gold", done

Radoras

@ | VisiBomb | not to draw too many parallels, but in history there have been enough cases of a war being started for no good reason, but people still supporting it...like, not too far in the past: World War II; when you're in an authoritarian dictatorship who's good with their propaganda (assuming there's a reason Trent is a MAGE of civil influence, not just a normal guy, so magic stuff as well) + good ol' nationalistic "the evil xyz are threatening us for no reason, we have to defend our freedom & families!" add in some illogical hatred that's been stewing long enough (cold war, so there's probably plenty of people who lost family/friends on those border conflicts & raids - so people looking to settle the score) & you got everything you need for a publicly supported war

Brandon Rodgers

The adaptation of the best campaign is here

Tahj Brown

totally irrelevant to the show but i just want it to be known that ever since you guys changed the intro I've never skipped it lol. i love it.

DIOR

the VAing is atrocious

CentipedeKid

Critical role makes these off of games they played

King97

Where you get that from?

Vergil

Beau's VA is Marisha Ray. Same VA as Keyleth in Vox Machina.

Luciaron

Yay love a good cartoon. This show seems to start on a more serious note compared to the first campaign.

ccadalin

After watching Episode 3 that is definitely the case

Sare

Can I watch this knowing nothing about Critical Role?

Ougi

Do I need to wach Vox Machina to understand this

Contrastjd

No for the most part there all stand alone stories just same universe

Vickiola

Yes, you should be fine!

Cerin Draco

i mean... not for season 1... there may be things refrenced from vox machina but not entirely sure if anything they would be easter eggs

Ray Ray

Need those subtitles on. Some of the names and labeling of different races/people/towns sound wocky

Drey

Subsssss?

mitch anderson

Nah you dont need to, but if you have the free time you should def check out Vox Machina

Jake Dodd

Yeh that’s there intention with this, they said they wanna make it fun for people who’ve watched the campaign but also still completely watchable for people who know nothing about about them👍🏻

Fizzy 🐉

You need to get your eyes checked lol

Jason Marbach

He’s a king. Kings love to swing their dcks around and send a bunch of their peasants off to die, it’s kind of their whole deal

Jason Marbach

Obviously I’m not here to debate anyone’s lived experiences - sorry you’ve endured that, truly - but at a nationstate level, this is absolutely how war works and always has. It’s doubly true in fantasy stories, where the worlds are invariably very medieval coded and every ruler is kind of a power hungry monster. Just kind of how the genre works, generally speaking

Jason Marbach

Also, for what it’s worth, find familiar is most often cast as a ritual, in my experience. Very few players I’ve ever played with want to waste a prepared spell slot when they don’t have to, and Liam (Caleb) almost always cast it as a ritual in the live play

Bria A.

Objectively some of the best and most prolific English-speaking voice actors in the game lmao. They got fuckin Mulan in here. The only thing you can really "complain" about is a man who had literal tonsil/throat cancer doing an intentionally shrill female voice.

Hopeless Mongrel

Hazbin Hotel please, I think it’ll grow on you and Keith David is a GEM in that show

PJ Rivera

You don’t need to but its an awesome show. This takes place 30 years later and in an entirely different continent. Aside from a few references there’s no need to see vox machina

PJ Rivera

Many in the group were still new to DND at the time so they based their characters on very simple and basic hero tropes. Aside from Percy whose player was already a veteran of course. Grog is the dumb strong barbarian, Pike the rough around the edges but kind priest, scanlan the horny bard, vax and vex the ranger and rogue. In this campaign they were feeling more confident so they went out there with more interesting characters. A lot more flawed this time around and less goody two shoes

MTGLordOfLeaves

I think yall would be a dope group to watch a D&D Live play with. lol

Kelton Jones

Please be quiet 🤫 😒 🙄 😑 😩 🙏🏿

Tsuki

They’ll get bored. Animation is different

Teejay

Hush, thats like a kid fighting a special forces agent. Surprised she even survived at all

BZD

I mean that really just supports my point.

MTGLordOfLeaves

Maybe. With the right DM it would be awesome.

Carlo Marasigan

Just wanted to help you guys with the voices and the characters. You can see for some of them they really wanted to play someone very different from their previous characters. Fjord=Grog=Travis Jester=Vex=Laura Mollymauk=Percy=Taliesen Beau=Keyleth=Marisha Caleb=Vax=Liam Nott=Scanlan=Sam Yasha=Pike=Ashley

rrrebo

Yep, Roshi was right the first time. Caleb is Vax.

Woah cool!

This was my favorite campaign they've done so far. It's what actually got me into DnD, so I hope the show conveys the whole thing well.

rrrebo

Beau looks like Sokka and Korra's cross-generational love child.

Kugenaru Kira

Shaming him isn’t enough we gotta take his life

patricia jimjimcherie

Everyone already clarified but Imma do it anyway jic: Liam O'Brien: Vax (Vox Machina) and Caleb (Mighty Nein) Sam Riegel: Scanlan (VM) and Nott (MN, Nott is also a woman) Marisha Ray: Keyleth (VM) and Beau (MN) Travis Willingham: Grog (VM) and Fjord (MN) Laura Bailey: Vex (VM) and Jester (MN) Taliesin Jaffe: Percy (VM) and Mollymauk (MN) Ashley Johnson: Pike (VM) and Yasha (MN) And Matthew Mercer (DM) is Essek here.

Kelton Jones

D girl gave Beau that Xena treatment 😆 🤣

vash_yy

white skinned goth barbarian's name as well as others isn't known yet to series people, so that's a spoiler. people spoiling names (that haven't even appeared yet) for others impossible challenge

vash_yy

i wish people would'nt mention names of chars to series watchers that haven't even appeared yet...

vash_yy

damn, someone not spoiling names and mentioning other chars that haven't appeared yet, kudos to you

patricia jimjimcherie

I don't feel naming people is a spoiler, it's something you can see in the cast list on Prime lol

Bria A.

they're literally main cast, can we not do this nitpicking. there are only two names that shouldn't be spoiled until those things happen and i would assume critical role watchers have enough home training not to say those (though i have been wrong before)

Gizmo

so Caleb's native language is Zemnian which is pretty much just German. so when he says nein it really is just no. Also Nott is a she,its what i was wondering when they announced this, that if Sam would be voicing her

Tuny kun

I was straight up waiting for the blue person to start waterbending when they were getting their ass beat

Maham Aziz

They just need a suitable DM. I've seen people not into that stuff at all have fun with the right people.

Riley

Ep 2 soon??🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🙇‍♀️

CobraCartoon

I’d watch that. A session zero would really help what type of adventure they’d want.

Jamaal Ellison

Yo y'all niggas stole our afterlife bro give it back!!!

Wizard

I might be tripping and this is just a guess but those sigils on the arms for the magic enhancements kinda look like the sigils used by Raishan when she took over Thordak’s body

DevilMayCarter

25:00 Well, you know what Denji said, "It's NUTS or NOTHING!" Hell, even Trevor Belmont wasn't opposed to catching someone downstairs...

Adio Sebastian

I never finished Critical Role season 2, but it was definitely my favourite of the first two. I think the animated format suits me better as a viewer so I'm keen to watch this excellent story play out to the end.

john segun doe

Ayyyyy me and Lupa both said "Crystal Four" at the same time. lol Its official, I watch too much YaboyRoshi lmao

Nico

I was absolutely shook when a Goblin was actually a main character. The only good goblins a dead goblin, so let’s make these goblins GOOOOOOD!

melloburner

15:49 why do i see the fucking speed face bro 😭😭😭

Ash

Good to know amazon prime autoplay gives roshi trouble too

JustADad 🟣⚫️

That’s a shame because to me it’s still there best one to date by a good margin. You can tell these particular characters the absolutely loved. As well as the backstories for each of them is top tier.

JustADad 🟣⚫️

Sam voiced her originally in the campaign, although after his cancer and everything that came after that he can’t do the original voice anymore. That being said the original voice was even less feminine than what you hear here.

JustADad 🟣⚫️

I’m good, those shows really only attract a niche demographic. I’m sure some of those people would be into them but it would be a skip for me. I tried it like 3 times, never got the appeal.

Hopeless Mongrel

Did you hear loser baby and love in a bottle?

Sauceless

I love shows like this

Raventerrace

Yoo sheera look fried af 😭
